"The Sogetsu Connection" is the sixty-seventh episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime. It first aired in Japan on July 16, 2023.

A mysterious masked Duelist who calls himself Commander Study has showed up at the Galaxy Cup! He has been farming points by picking off weak opponents. However, one man stands against him to stop his misdeeds. That man’s name is Maguto Sogetsu!

This Duel is conducted as a Rush Duel.

Turn 1: Maguto
Maguto's hand contains "Surging-Wave Swordsman Onimaru Kunituna", "Surging-Wave Swordsman Gokotai Bream", "Surging-Wave Swordsman Yoshimitsu Shark", "Surging-Wave Fish Slash", and "Hydro Cannon Big Bluefin". Maguto Normal Summons "Gokotai Bream" (0/1400) and "Yoshimitsu Shark" (1500/0). Maguto Tributes "Gokotai Bream" and "Yoshimitsu Shark" to Tribute Summon "Onimaru Kunituna" (2500/2000). Maguto Sets 1 Card.

Turn 2: Study
Study Maximum Summons "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix", "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix [L]", and "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix [R]", entering Maximum Mode (3500 MAXIMUM ATK). Study activates the effect of "Volcalize Phoenix" since it is in Maximum Mode, allowing him to send a FIRE or Pyro monster from his hand to the Graveyard to inflict 1000 damage to Maguto, and if he does, "Volcalize Phoenix" cannot be destroyed by Maguto's Trap effects and inflicts piercing battle damage this turn. Study sends "Bolt the Conduction Spirit" from his hand to the Graveyard. Since both players control a face-up Level 7 or higher monster, Study activates "Chemicalize Centrifuge", allowing him to send the top 2 cards of his Deck to the Graveyard, then he can shuffle 2 FIRE monsters from his Graveyard into his Deck to draw a card. Study sends "Hot the Combustion Spirit" and "Melt the Aqueous Spirit" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard, then shuffles "Hot" and "Melt" from his Graveyard into his Deck and draws "Chemicalize Devil Burst". Study activates the effect of "Volcalize Phoenix [L]", allowing him to shuffle a FIRE Thunder monster from his Graveyard into his Deck to destroy a face-up monster Maguto controls, then if "Volcalize Phoenix" is in Maximum Mode, Study can destroy an additional monster Maguto controls. Study shuffles "Bolt" from his Graveyard into his Deck and tries to destroy "Onimaru Kunituna", but the effect of "Onimaru Kunituna" prevents all face-up Fish monsters Maguto controls from being destroyed by Study's card effects. Since Study controls 1 or more face-up Pyro, Aqua, and/or Thunder monsters, he activates "Chemicalize Devil Burst", allowing him to inflict 500 damage to Maguto, then if Study controls a monster in Maximum Mode, he can have a face-up monster Maguto controls lose 1500 until the end of this turn. Study chooses "Onimaru Kunituna" (Maguto: 3000 → 2500 LP)("Onimaru Kunituna": 2500/2000 → 1000/2000). Since Maguto took damage from Study's card effect, he activates his Set "Surging-Wave Fish Slash", allowing him to inflict 500 damage to Study, then he can choose up to 3 face-up Fish monsters he controls with 1500 or less ATK to prevent him from taking battle damage from battles involving those monsters this turn. Maguto chooses "Onimaru Kunituna" (Study: 4000 → 3500 LP). "Volcalize Phoenix" attacks and destroys "Onimaru Kunituna", but due to the effect of "Surging-Wave Fish Slash", Maguto takes no battle damage.

Turn 3: Maguto
Maguto's hand contains "Big Bluefin", "Salvage", "Surging-Wave Swordsman Tanegashima Tuna", "Fusion", and "Raging Waves". Maguto activates "Salvage", allowing him to add 2 WATER monsters with 1500 or less ATK from his Graveyard to his hand. Maguto adds "Gokotai Bream" and "Yoshimitsu Shark" from his Graveyard to his hand. Maguto Normal Summons "Gokotai Bream" (0/1400), "Yoshimitsu Shark" (1500/0), and "Tanegashima Tuna" (0/0). Maguto Tributes "Gokotai Bream" and "Yoshimitsu Shark" to Tribute Summon "Big Bluefin" (2200/2100). Maguto activates "Fusion", allowing him to Fusion Summon a monster from his Extra Deck using face-up monsters he controls as materials. Maguto fuses "Big Bluefin" and "Tanegashima Tuna" to Fusion Summon "Dark Hydro Cannon Neutron Bluefin" (2900/2100). Maguto activates the Field Spell "Raging Waves". The effect of "Raging Waves" prevents players from attacking monsters while they control exactly 1 monster, with face-up Fish, Sea Serpent, Thunder, and Aqua monsters being unaffected by this effect. The effect of "Neutron Bluefin" allows it to attack directly while Maguto controls no other monsters, and while Study controls a Maximum Monster, all face-up monsters he controls cannot activate their effects and their effects are negated. "Neutron Bluefin" attacks Study directly (Study: 3500 → 600 LP).

At this point, Commander Study is revealed to be Manabu Sogetsu

Turn 4: Manabu
Manabu's hand contains contains "Chemicalizing Impact", "Blue Burning", "Melt", "Bolt", and "Chemicalize Tropos Rapier". Manabu activates "Chemicalizing Impact", allowing him to send 2 cards from his hand to the Graveyard to have a face-up monster on the field gain 1000 ATK until the end of this turn. Then if Manabu sent 2 Aqua, Pyro, and/or Thunder monsters to the Graveyard with this effect, that monster gains an additional 1000 ATK until the end of this turn. Manabu sends the Aqua "Melt" and the Thunder "Bolt" to the Graveyard and chooses "Volcalize Phoenix" ("Volcalize Phoenix": 3500 → 4500 → 5500 MAXIMUM ATK). Since Manabu controls a Level 7 or higher Pyro monster, he activates "Blue Burning", allowing him to send the top card of his Deck to the Graveyard to have all face-up monsters on the field lose 700 ATK for each face-up Level 7 or higher monster on the field until the end of this turn. Manabu sends "Hot" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard. ("Volcalize Phoenix": 5500 → 4100 MAXIMUM ATK) ("Neutron Bluefin": 2900/??? → 1500/???). Manabu activates "Chemicalize Tropos Rapier", allowing him to shuffle 3 Pyro, Aqua, and/or Thunder monsters from his Graveyard into his Deck to equip it to a monster on the field. Manabu shuffles "Melt", "Bolt", and "Hot" from his Graveyard into his Deck and equips "Tropos Rapier" to "Volcalize Phoenix". The effect of "Tropos Rapier" causes the equipped monster to lose 1000 ATK and prevents it from being destroyed by Trap effects, and if the equipped monster is a Maximum Monster, it can attack directly. ("Volcalize Phoenix": 4100 → 3100 MAXIMUM ATK). "Volcalize Phoenix" attacks Maguto directly (Maguto: 2500 → 0 LP).
