- The name "Ruby Carbuncle" is a double pun, since Carbuncle is also a type of gemstone, as well as a mythical creature, alleged to be seen in Latin America. Legends say the Carbuncle has some sort of jewel on its head.
- "Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle" bears a striking resemblance to the Pokémon Espeon. It also resembles the Final Fantasy summon Carbuncle in both name and appearance.
