  • This card is a reference to the silver carp, also sometimes known as "flying carp". These fish are strong swimmers and can even leap out of the water with ease, allowing them to swim upstream and over barriers.
    • In Chinese mythology, a carp that could swim upstream and then leap the falls of the Yellow River at Dragon Gate (Longmen), would be transformed into a dragon. This is reference by this card's second effect: when this card an opponent's monster by battle (the barrier in question), it "transforms" into another Fish, Sea Serpent, or Aqua monster.
      • Interestingly, the Japanese name for the Sea Serpent type is 海竜(Kairyū), which means "Sea Dragon".
  • This card's Japanese name and artwork are references to koinobori, carp-shaped windsocks traditionally flown in Japan.
