- This card's name, "Kuriboh" roughly translates to "chestnut person" in Japanese. It is also the Japanese name for the Super Mario Bros. enemy known as "Goomba" in the international version.

- In Yu-Gi-Oh! episode Legendary Fisherman, Part 1", this monster (of its own accord) looked at " 68: "Obelisk the Tormentor" in awe as it absorbed the power of Seto Kaiba's two other monsters that were on the field.
- In Yu-Gi-Oh! episode Isolated in Cyber Space, Part 1", this monster itself chose to be Yugi Muto/ 99: "Yami Yugi's first Deck Master in the Virtual World arc, much to their surprise.
- Kaiba called this card one of the weakest monsters in the game, due to its low stats.
- However, this card often prevented Yugi Muto/Yami Yugi to take battle damage that would have caused them to lose the Duel.
- In the manga, this card's apparent weakness was such that in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel 131 (Duelist Duel 72): "Attack of Chaos", even Pegasus was shocked that anyone would use it in their Deck.
- In the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Stories manga, Raye owns a doll of this monster and "Winged Kuriboh".
- In an interview in the Swedish Shonen Jump magazine in 2005, Kazuki Takahashi referred to this card as his third favorite monster. In his commentary, he also said (freely translated): What does that look actually mean?
