Virus (ウイルス Uirusu or ウィルス Wirusu) is a series of Trap Cards used by Seto Kaiba in both the anime and manga, and by Baira in Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.
The later members are spun off the original card, "Crush Card Virus". "Crush Card Virus" is a Virus Card in the manga. Somewhat ironically, "Crush Card Virus" no longer has the Lingering Effect of other "Virus" cards in the TCG/OCG due to receiving a major erratum so that it did not need to be Forbidden. However, the monster counterpart of "Crush Card Virus", "Doom Virus Dragon", has the same effect that it did prior to its erratum.
Contents
Members
All members of the series have the following properties in common:
- They are Normal Trap Cards (except in manga that Virus Cards exist).
- The activation cost is Tributing a monster that meets a certain restriction.
- Upon resolution, it destroys opponent's cards that meet a certain condition.
- Until the opponent's 3rd turn after it was activated, its Lingering Effect has a negative effect on the opponent (except for "Crush Card Virus" after its major erratum).
TCG/OCG ("Deck Destruction")
Each of the following Virus cards feature 「デッキ破壊ウイルス」 (Dekki Hakai Uirusu, "Deck Destruction Virus") in their Japanese names. Each also features a single kanji character with negative connotations in their names; this character is marked on the stylized "Virus monster" found on their card artworks, and is also found in the name of a DARK "king" monster.
These "dark king" monsters can be considered a monster series on their own; through "Diabolos, King of the Abyss" and its retrain "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair", they are also connected to the "Lair of Darkness" Field Spell and its associated cards in Structure Deck: Lair of Darkness, who also support the Virus playstyle.

Lair of Darkness
While Virus cards are generic trap cards by nature, they are strongly associated with and broadly supported by the Field Spell "Lair of Darkness", as well as its associated cards and strategy originating from Structure Deck: Lair of Darkness.
