"Dark Magician" has had many different artworks in all media it has been released in.

Manga artwork

The ninth OCG artwork (released in Japan in a campaign held from October 16, 2021 to November 15, 2021; and in Battle of Chaos on February 10, 2022 in the TCG) comes from the artwork used in the manga. Long before that, the artwork was also used for the "Dark Magician" of Toei's anime and Bandai's card game.

This artwork's colorizations used several several disparate palettes, with the Toei/Bandai version having one more of its own.

Duel Monsters video game artwork

In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, this card was drawn with a different artwork. It was colorized in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II: Dark duel Stories.

Duel 62 pose

The first OCG/TCG artwork comes from the position "Dark Magician" appeared in when Yugi used it to attack "Koumori Dragon against Pegasus in their first Duel in the manga. It is the only artwork to use the NAS anime palette: purple armor with lavender trim, blue robe, green staff, pink skin, and blue hair.

This artwork was redone for the card's Rush Duel release. For its release in the Gold Rush Pack, its Rush Duel artwork was edited to show the monster attacking.

Duel 94 pose

The second OCG/TCG artwork comes from the position "Dark Magician" appeared in when Yugi Summoned him in the Labyrinth Duel in the manga. This artwork debutted the palette used for most other OCG/TCG ones: blue armor and robe with red trim, green skin, and blond hair.

Arkana artwork

This version, used by Pandora/Arkana, features an exclusive palette: red armor with yellow trim, purple robe, dark skin, and silver hair. In the manga, the physical card itself was no different from Yugi's copy.

The artwork is taken from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel 162 (Duelist Duel 103): "Magic vs. Magic" and derived from two separate panels showing Pandora's (Arkana's) "Dark Magician". The head and shoulders are taken from one panel. The stomach, arms, and rod are taken from the panel above, but flipped horizontally to fit with the other shot.

Duel 161 pose

The fourth OCG/TCG artwork comes from the position "Dark Magician" appeared in when Yugi first Summoned him against Pandora in Error rendering {{chapter}} 🛈. It tweaks the pallete introduced in the Duel 94 artwork by applying the "red-trimmed blue" pattern to the staff as well, instead of it keeping it fully green like in the original OCG/TCG artwork. This is popularly referred to as the "tablet artwork" in reference to the one in the background.

For a collaboration with the Japanese branch of the CoCo's restaurant chain, a variant of this artwork was made where the background is replaced with images of food and Cs from the CoCo's logo, designed to resemble a wall of hieroglyphs.

For a collaboration with the Japanese branch of 7-Eleven, the chibi rendition of this artwork from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Arena was used. Notably, this variant uses the anime palette and the background of the manga artwork.

For its Rush Duel release in the High-Grade Collection, this artwork's background was replaced, and "Dark Magical Circle" was added. The artwork was also reframed so that as an Over Rush Rare, "Dark Magician" itself appears to pop out of the usual artwork border.

10th anniversary artwork

A more realistic artwork drawn by series creator Kazuki Takahashi was made to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the OCG. The full artwork was later included in Duel Art. This portrayal debuted a third palette: black armor and robe with white trim, blue skin, and white hair.

Duel 341 pose

The sixth OCG artwork comes from the position "Dark Magician" appeared in when Atem Summoned him in the Rite of the Duel in the manga.
