"Dinowrestler" (ダイナレスラー Dainaresurā) is an archetype of Dinosaur monsters used by George Gore in the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. Almost all members of this archetype are EARTH monsters with 0 DEF.

Design

Appearance

"Dinowrestler" monsters are anthropomorphic prehistoric reptiles; primarily dinosaurs. The "Dinowrestlers" that are based on dinosaurs are EARTH, while the WIND "Capaptera" is based on a pterosaur.

Etymology

The name of this archetype is a portmanteau of "Dinosaur" and "wrestler". "Dino" means "terrible" in Greek, so "Dinowrestler" can be translated as "terrible wrestler", which may refer to the monsters portraying heels, as they can be seen employing dirty tactics in the artworks of "Dino Deceit" and "Dino Domain". The "Dinowrestler" monsters' names are portmanteaus of prehistoric animals and martial arts (eg. Dinowrestler Capoeiraptor is derived from "Velociraptor" and "capoeira".)

Playing style

"Dinowrestler" monsters have effects focused on battle; their support cards often increase their ATK and prevent their destruction. The archetype also focuses on uninterrupted one-on-one battles through the effects of "Dinowrestler King T Wrextle" and "World Dino Wrestling". Many of their effects can be triggered if the opponent controls more monsters than the player, creating a more even number of monsters on both players fields. The boss monsters each have the effects to prevent the opponent from activating Spell/Trap Cards until the end of the Damage Step if they battle, and prevent the opponent from targeting other monsters for attacks, allowing for an attack lock if the player controls at least two.
