Lists

Chimera, known as Chimaera (キマイラ, Kimaira) in the Japanese version[1][2], is a series of monsters consisting of "Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast", "Chimera Fusion", and cards that mention, or are mentioned by, either of them.

Its first members are "Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast" and its two materials: "Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts" and "Berfomet". They were used by Yami Yugi in the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and anime.

Its second wave of members, which are focused on "Chimera Fusion", retrains of the original members, and the Illusion Type, were introduced in Duelist Nexus.

Playing style

The Chimera series focuses on Fusion Summoning "Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast", while setting up several negations and a resource loop every turn.

The standard Chimera opening play requires only "Mirror Swordsman". Its effect can be used to Special Summon "Berfomet the Great Wings" from the Deck, which can add "Gazelle the King of Mythical Claws" and "Chimera Fusion" to the hand. The latter can then be used to Fusion Summon "Chimera the Phantom Beast King" by using both "Gazelle" and "Berfomet", which also triggers their effects to add 1 Illusion monster to the hand (usually "Cornfield Koator"), Special Summon another from the GY (usually "Mirror Swordsman"), and send an opponent's card from the hand to the GY during the End Phase. Next, the effect of "Chimera Fusion" can return itself to the hand, and then use "Chimera the Phantom Beast King" and the 2 Illusion monsters to Fusion Summon "Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast". This 1-card combo Summons the series' boss monster, while having both "Cornfield Koator" and "Mirror Swordsman" in the GY, from where they can negate one monster effect activated on the field and one targeting effect. If "Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast" is removed from the field by other means which cannot be negated, it can be Special Summoned back with the GY effect of "Chimera the Phantom Beast King".

This combo can be repeated by having "Chimera the Phantom Beast King" Special Summon "Mirror Swordsman" back from the GY instead, thus creating a resource loop that continues to generate card advantage every turn. Since "Mirror Swordsman" can also be searched by "Cornfield Koator", and "Berfomet the Great Wings" and "Chimera Fusion" can also be searched by "Gazelle the King of Mythical Claws", the Deck is very consistent in opening with this combo or other ways to end on the same result.

In addition to "Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast", the Deck can also make use of other Fusion Monsters that can be Summoned with "Chimera Fusion". This includes "Guardian Chimera", which can be Fusion Summoned in the mentioned combo instead of "Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast" in order to destroy 2 cards and draw 1 (even during the opponent's turn), and "Predaplant Dragostapelia", which can be Summoned by using "Chimera the Phantom Beast King" and a DARK monster such as "Berfomet the Great Wings", which serves as an additional monster effect negation.

Due to its support to the Illusion Type, monsters other than "Mirror Swordsman" and "Cornfield Koator" can be used in the Main Deck, since they can be used as material for "Chimera the Illusion Magical Beast" and be Special Summoned from the GY with "Chimera the Phantom Beast King". This can even be applied to high Level Illusion monsters, such as "Nightmare Magician".

This series also has synergy with the "Branded" archetype, another Fusion-focused strategy. "Branded Fusion" can be used to Fusion Summon "Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon" by using "Fallen of Albaz" and "Gazelle the King of Mythical Claws" from the Deck. This serves as another form of negation, but most importantly, it triggers the effect of "Gazelle" to add "Cornfield Koator" to the hand, thus becoming another started for the Deck. In addition, "Branded Fusion" (or other "Branded" cards) can be searched by "Springans Kitt", which is a Level 4 Beast, thus being searchable by "Berfomet the Great Wings".
