A card effect (カードのこう Kādo no Kōka) is any effect in the game introduced by a specific card, excluding the conditions and costs of that card. Card effects include monster, Spell and Trap effects.

The card effect, as well as any costs and conditions (and Materials for most Extra Deck monsters), are detailed in the card text.

Trivia

  • In the anime (both original Japanese and dubbed), card effects are often called "special abilities" (tokushū nōryoku). In the manga, they are referred to as both "effects" and "special abilities"; they are also very rarely referred to as "powers".
    • Jaden Yuki for the first season referred to his Elemental Hero's abilities as "Super Powers".
