"A Duel Within", known as "Glimpse of the Supreme King" in the Japanese version, is the one hundred and twenty-ninth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. It aired in Japan on October 30th, 2016 and in Canada on February 9, 2018. It became available with official subtitles via Crunchyroll on November 28, 2017.
Yuya battles against Zarc, who is trying to consume him. Meanwhile, Declan boldly confronts Leo in order to stop his ambition. As the two’s respective battles rage on, Yugo and Yuri confront each other in another place. When the four dragons are summoned to their respective Fields, they begin to resonate, as if heralding the Devil’s revival.

Summary
As Yuya's "Performapal Gatlinghoul" opens fire (in the dub, Yuya and Zarc tell the Professor that he's through), Leo activates the Pendulum effect of the "Spirit Reactor" Set in his right Pendulum Zone since there is either an EARTH, WATER, FIRE or WIND monster on the field, allowing him to prevent "Spirit Tech Force - Pendulum Governor" from being destroyed. Since "D/D/D Gust King Alexander" and "D/D/D Wave King Caesar" are WIND and WATER respectively, a blue energy shield forms around "Pendulum Governor" and the gatling fire impacts harmlessly. Declan realizes that his own monsters protected Leo, and Yuya grits his teeth before Setting a card and ending his turn. Rin, Lulu, Celina, and Zuzu watch, Zuzu whispering Yuya's name as Yuya's eyes continue to glow red and darkness flows from his body (in the dub, Zuzu begs Yuya to calm down).
Leo reflects that Zarc is trying to reawaken now and they don't have much time. He contacts one of his staff, asking what the current energy reading in the ARC-V Reactor is. The staff member informs him that it's at 20%, and Leo orders it to be hastened; they must activate the ARC-V Reactor before Zarc can reawaken (in the dub, Leo is more specific with his commands, ordering the power dampeners lowered and the energy input tripled). Declan angrily interrupts, denouncing Leo for talking about the revival of a demon, when Leo, burning the life force of cards containing humans, is acting more like one himself (in the dub, he states that there's no truth to Leo's plan of stopping Zarc; instead it's causing more harm than Zarc ever could, and he likens Leo's plan to putting out a fire with gasoline). He vows that he won't let the dimensions reunite, and that he will protect the peace of the Four Dimensions.
Declaring his turn and drawing, Declan Tributes "D/D/D Gust King Alexander" and "D/D/D Wave King Caesar" to Tribute Summon "D/D/D Doom King Armageddon". Rin, Lulu and Zuzu note that Declan Tributed his Synchro and Xyz Monsters, and Celina adds that Declan has lost the protection from his "Dark Contract with Exclusivity" just to Summon that "old monster" (she is more specific in the dub; noting that Leo can now Summon Synchro and Xyz Monsters again). Yusho notes that since the WIND and WATER "Alexander" and "Caesar" have left the field, the effect of "Spirit Reactor" can no longer be used to protect "Pendulum Governor", and since "Armageddon" itself is a Level 8 Pendulum Monster, it can bypass the protection effect of "Pendulum Governor" itself. Leo points out that "Armageddon" has 3000 ATK, only 200 more than the 2800 ATK "Pendulum Governor", so he would take minimal damage (in the dub, he continues to be condescending to Declan after Declan claims that it's time for the son to school the father). Declan asks if Leo really thinks that, much to Leo's surprise, and he activates the effect of "Wave King Caesar" since it was sent to the Graveyard, adding a "Dark Contract" from his Deck to his hand. He chooses "Deceitful Dark Contract with the War Deity" and immediately activates it, explaining that it will increase the ATK of "Armageddon" by 1000 during the Battle Phase and reduce the ATK of "Pendulum Governor" by 1000. "Armageddon" rises to 4000 ATK as "Pendulum Governor" falls to 1800 ATK, and Declan states that Leo will thus take 2200 damage. He tells Yuya to hold on, reassuring him that the Duel will be over soon, and then he attacks with "Armageddon".
But as "Armageddon" begins to build up energy within its core, Leo calls Declan naïve. He activates a Trap Card, "Dis-Swing Fusion", negating the attack of a Pendulum Monster and taking control of it, while also preventing that monster from being destroyed by card effects. "Armageddon" disintegrates and rematerializes on Leo's side of the field, much to Declan's shock. Rin gasps, and Lulu cries that Declan lost his monster; Zuzu adds that it was Declan's ace monster. Declan realizes that Leo wanted him to attack with a Pendulum Monster, and Celina notes that the "Fusion" in the card's name (Celina's musings are cut from the dub). Sure enough, Leo explains that he can also Fusion Summon a Fusion Monster using one fewer materials, and he fuses "Pendulum Governor", which merges with the floating replicas of itself. Leo chants, "Mechanical soldiers in which spirits dwell. Obtain a new power and return as an invincible army! Fusion Summon! Assemble! Level 12! Master Spirit Tech Force - Pendulum Ruler!" ("Witness the monster you were so certain you had vanquished become a force that will soon vanquish you! Behold, Master Spirit Tech Force – Pendulum Ruler!" in the dub.) Zuzu is shocked to see a Level 12 monster, and Rin and Lulu note that it isn't even Leo's turn. Celina notes that this is the Professor's power. Yusho kneels with Riley's unconscious body, noting that since Leo Set that Trap he easily read their moves so far ahead all as a setup for this. Leo laughs, and he notes that Declan hasn't changed; he's always correct and straightforward, which makes him easy to read. He notes that the ideal conditions to bypass the Pendulum protection effect he had were to summon a monster with higher ATK and a higher Level. It's so straightforward that it's not even impressive, and if Declan only considers what's in front of him he'll be nothing more than a second-rate Duelist and businessman. (In the dub, Leo is less straightforward at describing Declan's efforts to bypass his effects, and simply warns him that he'll always be second best.) Declan is shocked by his father's claims, and Leo turns his attention to Yuya, nothing that he'll be able to destroy "Gatlinghoul" and rid them of Yuya.
Yuya activates a Trap Card, "Twin Big Shields" (in the dub, Zarc adds, "That's what you think!") since a monster was Special Summoned, preventing "Gatlinghoul" from being destroyed by battle or card effects twice per turn. Celina and Zuzu both wonder if Zarc or Yuya is in control now (in the dub the admit that they can't tell). Leo vows that he will defeat Yuya before Zarc can absorb his alter egos from the Fusion and Synchro Dimensions and revive completely (in the dub, he warns Zarc that he can prolong the Duel, but he can't prolong his demise). He tells Declan to end his turn, and Declan does (in the dub, he adds that he's not giving up), explaining that the effect of "Deceitful Dark Contract with the War Deity" ends, returning the ATK of "Armageddon" to normal. He warns Yuya that Leo is coming after him and tells him to be ready. Leo declares his turn and draws, then he uses his already Set Pendulum Scales to Pendulum Summon "Spirit Gem - Salamander Core" from his Extra Deck and "Spirit Gem - Silpheed Core" from his hand (a shot of his Duel Disk reveals that "Master Spirit Tech Force – Pendulum Ruler" is a Fusion-Pendulum Monster). Since "Salamander Core" was Pendulum Summoned from the Extra Deck, it returns to his hand, and Celina muses that its effect didn't trigger. Leo explains to her that unfortunately the effect of "Salamander Core" can only be used when it is Pendulum Summoned from his hand (in the dub, Celina simply tells Leo that he won't be walking away a winner, and Leo replies that she's in no position to disagree; soon the Four Dimensions will reunite as one, and he will have Ray back). But now he will grasp victory, and slay Yuya where he stands. He activates the effect of "Pendulum Ruler", Tributing "Silpheed Core" to activate its effect twice. As "Silpheed Core" is absorbed into a large gem on "Pendulum Ruler's" body, Leo explains that the effect of "Silpheed Core" can destroy a Spell or Trap Card and inflict 800 damage to its controller. First he destroys "Twin Big Shields", and "Pendulum Ruler" fires a massive blast of electricity, destroying the shields. Leo adds that the effect of "Pendulum Ruler" will also cause the damage to be doubled. The electrical blast intensifies, reducing Yuya to 1600 LP. Then Leo targets "Deceitful Dark Contract with the War Deity", and "Pendulum Ruler" fires another blast, destroying it and reducing Declan to 1600 LP as well. Celina and Zuzu cry Declan and Yuya's names respectively, and a holographic screen opens beside Leo again with his staff member, who informs Leo that the ARC-V Reactor is at 30% charge. Leo is pleased, noting that soon the dimensional reunion will begin, and he will finally have his daughter Ray back (in the dub, he also declares that they have reached Phase 2).
Leo orders his staff to intensify the flow of life energy into the ARC-V Reactor; it should be able to withstand it now (in the dub, he orders them to inform him when they are ready for Phase 3). As Yusho watches, he reflects that Declan claimed that Leo could not be forgiven for using humans as fuel in order to revive his only daughter, and while he wants to save Zuzu too, could he forgive himself if he uses this card in order to resurrect a demon? (In the dub, Yusho instead frets over the possibility of Leo destroying them all if he reunites the dimensions, including his son, and that if he uses this card to stop Leo, it could bring even greater danger). He withdraws a Continuous Trap Card from his coat, "Restraining Sword of Impact", which he remembers Leo giving to him in the past.
Leo declares his Battle Phase, attacking "Gatlinghoul" with "Pendulum Ruler". The six small replica statues of "Pendulum Ruler" form a circle and it fires a burst of lightning from them, which catches Yuya and poor "Gatlinghoul" unawares; "Gatlinghoul" spasms and is destroyed, reducing Yuya to 1000 LP. Leo then attacks Yuya directly with "D/D/D Doom King Armageddon", declaring gleefully that he'll give Declan's monster the honor of destroying Zarc's alter ego. Declan is horrified at that, but as "Armageddon" begins building up its energy, Yuya activates his Rollerboots and skates up a pillar, much to the surprise of Declan, Yusho, Celina, Lulu and Rin – and Zuzu's joy. Yuya backflips over a blue platform and snatches up an Action Card, the Action Spell "Evasion", negating the attack. He dodges the purple energy streams of "Doom King Armageddon" and lands in a crouch. Leo is furious that Yuya was able to dodge with an Action Card and he ends his turn. Zuzu asks if Yuya is okay, and Declan notes that the use of Action Cards is the Lancers' style of Dueling, so it's definitely Yuya Dueling, not Zarc. Yuya is holding him back even though Zarc is overflowing from his mind. Declan tells Yuya that they'll topple Leo together, and he'll save him after they stop his ambition; he will not allow a demon to dominate Yuya (in the dub, Declan states that Yuya will not let his spirit break, especially when it's to save his friends, and he tells him to get up since they're fight isn't over yet; what does Yuya say?).
Yuya looks at Declan and says his name (in the dub, he agrees that he will fight and speaks in his own voice for the first time, confirming that he is indeed in control), much to Declan's shock. Yuya and Yuto gasp, "Please…" and Zuzu and Lulu call their names, while Yusho calls his son's name. Then Yuya screams, and Zarc speaks through him, vowing that soon he will become one and regain his original self. Yuya screams in agony as Zarc gets to his feet, vowing that he will bury Leo (in the dub, Yuya gains more control, gasping that it's so hard to hold Zarc back, but he will stop Leo). Leo calls it useless; Zarc is powerless before "Pendulum Ruler" and his son's "Armageddon".
Yuya declares his turn and draws, then he uses his Set Scales to Pendulum Summon. He Pendulum Summon "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" and "Performapal U Go Golem" from his Extra Deck and "Performapal Nightmare Knight" from his hand. Then he overlays the Level 4 "U Go Golem" and "Nightmare Knight", and he chants, "From the black darkness, the fangs of rebellion that fight against the powers of stupidity descend! Xyz Summon! Appear! Rank 4! Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon!" Zuzu notes that it's Yuto's Dragon, and Lulu states that this proves that Yuto is still fighting, but Leo states that it's Zarc; "Dark Rebellion" is the "Xyz Dragon" that Zarc used to control. "Odd-Eyes" and "Dark Rebellion" roar – and in the halls of Duel Academy, so do "Clear Wing Synchro Dragon" and "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon" as Yugo and Yuri stand with glowing eyes while Sora watches. Leo states that Yuya no longer exists; now there is only Zarc. Declan insists that this isn't the case; Yuya was revealing his intentions. Zuzu agrees that Yuya is still in there, and Lulu adds that Yuto is too and she believes in him Celina and Rin agree, and Declan tells Yuya not to let the demon swallow him; to remember his ideals of Dueling for peace and bringing smiles to the future (in the dub, he tells Yuya that no-one is giving up on him, so he can't give up on himself; he must fight Zarc with every ounce of his strength and remember the reasons why he Duels).
Yuya clutches his head and screams in agony, and Declan, Zuzu, Celina, Rin and Lulu all flinch in shock as his aura erupts from his body, briefly taking the form of "Supreme King Z-ARC". Yuya activates "The Phantom Knights' Possession", allowing him to treat an Xyz Monster he controls as having the same Level as another monster he controls. He grants "Dark Rebellion" "Odd-Eyes'" Level, and "Dark Rebellion" becomes a Level 7 monster. Then Yuya overlays the Level 7 "Odd-Eyes" and "Dark Rebellion", and he chants, "Dragon with dual colored eyes! Resurrect from the deep darkness. With the flame of rage, incinerate everything on the earth!" Yuya and Yuto chant (in the dub, their voices briefly return alongside that of Zarc) "Xyz Summon!" Yuya chants, "Come forth! Rank 7! The blazing dragon called by calamity! Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon!"
Leo is shocked to see the "Supreme King Violent Dragon" and Yuya screams before he activates the effect of "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon", detaching its Overlay Units to negate the effects of all Spell and Trap Cards on the field and destroy every other card on the field. "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" blasts streams of fire from its wings, which slice through the pillars in the chamber and destroy the Pendulum Cards - "Spirit Reactors", "Stargazer Magician", "Timegazer Magician", "D/D Cerberus", "D/D Savant Copernicus" and Declan's "Dark Contract with Exclusivity", but energy shields – the effect of "Dis-Swing Fusion" and "Pendulum Ruler" respectively – protect "Armageddon" and "Pendulum Ruler". As the fire streams withdraw back into "Raging Dragon's" wings, Yuya explains that "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" will gain 200 ATK for each card it destroyed, and Declan muses that seven cards were destroyed, so "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" gains 1400 ATK, bringing it to 4400 ATK. Yuya muses that since "Armageddon" and "Pendulum Ruler" obviously can't be destroyed by effects, he'll have to destroy them in battle. He orders "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" to attack "D/D/D Doom King Armageddon". "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" surrounds itself in fire as the tips of its wings begin to melt the floor, and then blue flames form a ring in front of its maw. Yuya orders the "Inferno Fury Strike" attack of "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon", and "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" blasts a firebolt from its mouth, which is amplified by the ring of blue flames into a massive surge of energy that incinerates "Armageddon".
But it's Declan who takes the battle damage, not Leo; lightning wracks his body, dropping him to 200 LP. Yuya angrily asks what happened, and Leo explains that the effect of "Dis-Swing Fusion" inflicts any battle damage involving the monster that he took control of to the original owner (in the dub, he taunts Yuya for hurting his own partner). Yuya states that it won't be the same for the next attack (in the dub, he visibly struggles with claiming that it doesn't matter), explaining that "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" can attack twice in one turn. He begins to order another attack from "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon", but Zuzu begs him to stop. Yuya hesitates, and Zuzu begs Yuya not to give into anger as she clasps her hands. She knows that Yuya and Yuto are still in there, and she believes in them. Yuya puts his hand to his head, and Zuzu begs him to look within himself and find the real him, the one full of laughter. Celina agrees with Zuzu, and she clasps her hands too, as do Lulu and Rin, and as the girls pray, Yuya begins to calm down.
Leo whispers Ray's name (in the dub, he asks for an update), and then the holographic screen with his staff pops up. The staff member informs him that the ARC-V Reactor has surpassed 40%, and Leo doesn't hesitate in ordering them to proceed in reviving Ray as soon as possible (in the dub, the staffer states that they're ready to move onto Phase 3).
The ARC-V Reactor's green light increases in intensity, as does the light within the girls' capsules, and Lulu looks at her hand, which has begun to fade. She screams in terror, alerting Yuto, and Yuya orders "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" to attack "Pendulum Ruler". Zuzu screams Yuya's name (in the dub she cries that this isn't him) as "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" quickly fires off another "Inferno Fury Strike", incinerating "Pendulum Ruler". Leo is blasted back into his throne, his LP falling to 700. Yuya declares that this is the end, and he activates the effect of "Performapal Nightmare Knight" from his Graveyard, banishing it to inflict 1000 damage to all players who took battle damage this turn. Zuzu realizes that this will include Declan, who can't believe his ears, and a ball of shadows forms above Yuya…(in the dub, Zuzu tearfully asks Yuya why.)
A voice declares, "Intrusion Penalty: 2000 LP". Yuya gasps in surprise as Yusho takes the intrusion penalty, lowering his LP to 2000, and he activates the Trap Card, "Restraining Sword of Impact" from his hand by discarding his hand (in the dub, he apologizes for what he's about to do, but it's for Yuya's own good). It ends the Battle Phase, and seven red swords blast from portals around Yusho, throwing Yuya into the air and pinning him to a broken pillar with yellow energy cracks. As Declan watches in shock, a voice declares, "Unrecognized card: Duel automatically terminated", much to his surprise. Their Duel Disks shut down and the shadow ball fades as "Crossover" dissipates. Leo recognizes the card, and Yusho reminds Leo that when he was young, he developed a real passion for the ARC System's development. The card he'd given him was a failure; a bug in the system caused it to terminate a Duel. Zarc screams at them to let him go, but Yusho ignores him, explaining that he brought it with him to remind Leo of the basic, admitting that he thought he'd have to use it to bind him, but never that he'd end up using it on his own son (in the dub, Yusho is more concise, explaining that the card was a prototype, but that he kept it anyway, making no mention of using it on Leo and merely admitting that he never thought he'd have to use it on his own son, and that Leo is speaking the truth). Zuzu whispers, "Uncle" (she reacts in surprise to the news that Leo was telling the truth in the dub), and Yusho tells her that he was convinced when he saw her praying for Yuya; Leo said that Yuya was a fragment of Zarc, and she and the other girls were fragments of Ray. It was no coincidence that she became Skip Boyle's daughter; Ray's will ensured that she would revive close to Yuya to prevent Zarc's revival. Zuzu looks at her bracelet, surprised that she was supposed to stop Zarc.
Yusho muses that now no-one can stop Zarc's fragments (in the dub, he specifically states that it's because the girls are trapped) as elsewhere, Yuri and Yugo, the glow in their eyes dimmed to show their irises, declare that they will become one. Yusho hands Riley's unconscious body to Declan, telling him to take Riley, and telling the girls to hold on (in the dub, he tells Declan to free the girls; many people are counting on him doing so). He turns to leave, and Declan asks where he's going. Yusho replies that he's going to stop Zarc – Yuya is not a demon (in the dub, he states that he can't let his son be consumed by evil; what kind of father would he be?).

Leo Akaba has 1600 LP and controls "Spirit Tech Force - Pendulum Governor" (2800/2500) in Attack Position, as well as 2 copies of "Spirit Reactor" (1 8) in his Pendulum Zones, and 1 Set card in his Spell & Trap Zone.
Turn 4: Yuya
The effect of "Performapal Gatlinghoul" has just been activated to destroy "Spirit Tech Force - Pendulum Governor". Due to the effect of "Spirit Reactor", as there is an EARTH, WATER, WIND or FIRE monster on the field, each monster Leo controls cannot be destroyed once per turn. Declan controls the WIND "D/D/D Gust King Alexander" and the WATER "D/D/D Wave King Caesar", so "Pendulum Governor" is not destroyed. Yuya Sets a card.
Turn 5: Declan
Declan Tributes "Alexander" and "Caesar" to Tribute Summon "D/D/D Doom King Armageddon" (3000/1000). The effect of "Caesar" activates as it was sent to the Graveyard, allowing Declan to add 1 "Dark Contract" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Deceitful Dark Contract with the War Deity" and subsequently activates it. Declan activates the first effect of "Illegal Dark Contract with the War Deity", targeting a monster he controls and one his opponent controls. He targets "Armageddon" and Leo's "Spirit Tech Force - Pendulum Governor". During the Battle Phase, the ATK of his monster will increase by 1000 and the ATK of his opponent's monster will decreased by 1000. "Armageddon" attacks "Pendulum Governor" (as "Armageddon" is a Level 8 Pendulum Monster, it is not prevented from attacking by the effects of "Pendulum Governor"), but Leo activates his Set "Dis-Swing Fusion", negating the attack since a Pendulum Monster is attacking and then taking control of the attacking monster, preventing it from being destroyed by card effects. The second effect of "Dis-Swing Fusion" allows Leo to ignore one of the Fusion Materials of a Fusion Monster and use monsters in his hand or on his field as the remaining Fusion Materials to Fusion Summon that Fusion Monster. Leo fuses "Pendulum Governor" to Fusion Summon "Master Spirit Tech Force - Pendulum Ruler" (3500/3000). Turn 6: Leo
Leo Pendulum Summons "Spirit Gem - Silpheed Core" from his hand (0/0) and "Spirit Gem - Salamander Core" from his Extra Deck. As "Salamander Core" was Pendulum Summoned from the Extra Deck, Leo can activate its effect to return it to the hand, and he does so. Leo activates the effect of "Pendulum Ruler", letting him Tribute a "Spirit Gem" monster that was Pendulum Summoned from the hand this turn that has not activated its effect to allow "Pendulum Ruler" to use that card's effect up to twice this turn and double any effect damage inflicted by this effect. He Tributes "Silpheed Core". He activates the effect now, letting him destroy a Spell/Trap Card on the field and inflict damage 800 to its controller. He destroys "Twin Big Shields" (Yuya: 3200 → 1600) and "Deceitful Dark Contract with the War Deity" (Declan: 3200 → 1600). "Pendulum Ruler" attacks and destroys "Gatlinghoul". (Yuya: 1600 → 1000) "Armageddon" attacks directly, but Yuya finds and activates the Action Card "Evasion", negating the attack.
Turn 7: Yuya
Yuya Pendulum Summons "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" (2500/2000) and "Performapal U Go Golem" (1600/1000) from his Extra Deck and "Performapal Nightmare Knight" (1700/0) from his hand. Yuya overlays the Level 4 "U Go Golem" and "Nightmare Knight" to Xyz Summon "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" (2500/2000). Yuya activates "The Phantom Knights' Possession", letting him treat an Xyz Monster he controls as having a Level equal to the Level of a monster on the field. He treats "Dark Rebellion" as having the same Level as "Odd-Eyes". Yuya overlays his two Level 7 Dragon-Type monsters to Xyz Summon "Odd-Eyes Raging Dragon" (3000/2500) in Attack Position.
Yuya activates the effect of "Raging Dragon", detaching all of its Overlay Units to negate the effects of as many face-up Spell/Trap Cards as possible and then destroying all other cards on the field, with "Raging Dragon" gaining 200 ATK for each destroyed card. He destroys both "Spirit Reactors", "Stargazer Magician", "Timegazer Magician", "D/D Cerberus", "D/D Savant Copernicus" and "Dark Contract with Exclusivity". The effect of "Pendulum Ruler" prevents itself from being destroyed. As he destroyed 7 cards, "Raging Dragon" gains 1400 ATK ("Raging Dragon": 3000 → 4400) "Raging Dragon" attacks and destroys "Armageddon". As Leo would take battle damage involving "Armageddon", it will be inflicted to Declan as per as the effect of "Dis-Swing Fusion" (Declan: 1600 → 200). "Raging Dragon" attacks and destroys "Pendulum Ruler" (Leo: 1600 → 700) Yuya activates the effect of "Performapal Nightmare Knight", banishing it from his Graveyard to inflict 1000 damage to all players who took battle damage this turn.
At this point, Yusho enters the Duel and takes the intrusion penalty (Yusho: 4000 → 2000 LP). By sending all cards in his hand to the Graveyard, Yusho activates "Restraining Sword of Impact" and ends the Battle Phase.
Since "Restraining Sword of Impact" was an illegal card, the Duel gets canceled.
