AppearanceEdit
Alec is a tall man with hazel eyes and navy hair, with lighter blue highlights at the temples, in addition to a thin mustache and thicker beard. He wears a brown trench coat over a charcoal shirt with a black tie, charcoal pants, and smooth olive shoes. When he was younger, his hair was blunter and he only had a goatee, and he wore a labcoat over an olive shirt while he was at work, and a navy blue jacket over a white shirt and a black tie while he and Klarissa spent time with Roken.
In LINK VRAINS, his Avatar Faust retains his appearance outside of LINK VRAINS, but he wears an steel eyepiece over his left eye like Baira and Dr. Genome do, with three gold lines along the top, a gold line surrounding the lens almost completely and one below that, a red lens, and a jade stripe running down his nose. He wears a white trenchcoat with a bronze lining in a similar shape to that of Varis over a white undershirt like Spectre's with a black line running down the chest, flared white pants, and calf-length white boots belted at the cuffs. When he uses his Skill, the yellow lines on his eyepiece and the lines on his coat light up.
BiographyEdit
HistoryEdit
Alec aided Kiyoshi Kogami with the Hanoi Project, alongside Klarissa Turner and Dr. Genome.[3] He and Klarissa showed themselves to be uncomfortable with the experiments that they put the children that they kidnapped through, and he noted that he would regret it for the rest of his life. Alec and Klarissa acted as older sibling figures to Kogami's son, Roken.[4] After Kogami's death, the three helped Roken form the Knights of Hanoi to avenge Kogami's death and prevent the Ignis from destroying humans.[4] They aided him in attacking the Cyberse five years before the events of the series.
Knights of HanoiEdit
As the Knights of Hanoi began their full-scale attack on LINK VRAINS, Faust and Baira joined Varis on a rooftop as Varis lamented the naivety of the lesser, glory-seeking members of the Knights who did not know their true purpose. Faust agreed, and Baira reassured Varis that Dr. Genome was making his move and that they'd provided him with the Deleted virus.[2] Faust and Baira later assisted their fellow Knights against SOL Technologies' A.I. Duelist army, defeating them all in seconds.[5]
After defeating the A.I., Baira and Faust returned to the Knights' control room. They noted that the defeat that SOL Technologies had suffered would keep them quiet for a while. Baira asked if Faust was really okay with helping Varis commit an historical cyber-crime despite treating him like a little brother, and discussed their plan to lure Playmaker out with the Deleted virus in order to capture his Ignis and find the Cyberse before Dr. Kogami's plan came to fruition.[4]
Baira was later defeated by Blue Angel and purged by Varis as Genome had been, leaving Faust as the lone Commander of the Knights of Hanoi.[6] Alec continued to monitor the Knights' attacks on other Duelists. One Duelist, The Brave Battler, claimed to be a friend of Playmaker's, and defeated a Knight of Hanoi using "Cyberse Wizard". Alec learned that The Brave Battler was Naoki Shima, and he found him outside Den City High School and knocked him out, taking him to a warehouse in the harbor and forcibly logging him into LINK VRAINS.[7]
As Faust interrogated The Brave Battler, challenging him to a Speed Duel, Playmaker arrived, and assured The Brave Battler that he'd face Faust. As he reclaimed "Cyberse Wizard" from The Brave Battler, he noted that Faust was the final Deleted mastermind and accused him of sending the card data to The Brave Battler to lure Playmaker out. Faust denied responsibility, and Playmaker's Ignis, Ai, claimed it wasn't important, and they only had to defeat Faust. Faust declared that his mission was to retrieve Ignis, and activated a Data Gale to allow them to Speed Duel and prevent Playmaker logging out. Faust started the Speed Duel by bringing out "Motor Worm Spreader Queen" and setting up his "Wormhole Defense" and "Motor Worm Token" combo to boost the ATK of "Spreader Queen". Playmaker countered with "Decode Talker" and "Cyberse Wizard", attacking "Spreader Queen". Faust protected his queen from "Decode Talker" by destroying the "Motor Worm Token" instead, but the ATK of "Spreader Queen" fell low enough for "Cyberse Wizard" to destroy. Despite losing LP, Faust revived "Spreader Queen", then used "Egg Clutch" to turn "Cyberse Wizard" into an Insect monster. On his next turn, he played "Motor Worm Gate" to allow his queen to attack directly if Playmaker only controlled Insect monsters. Ai pointed out they still had the Cyberse "Decode Talker", which his queen destroyed. Faust then activated his Skill, "Double Bite", allowing "Spreader Queen" to attack once more and finish Playmaker off.
Playmaker barely survived by halving the damage with "Urgent Link", and attempted to trigger its effect to Link Summon during Faust's turn, but Faust's "Wormhole Defense" prevented the Insect tokens from being used as Link Material. Faust declared he would obtain the Ignis on his next turn, but Playmaker used "Cybersal Cyclone" to banish "Decode Talker" to destroy "Spreader Queen". Faust prevented "Spreader Queen's" destruction by destroying a "Motor Worm Token" instead, but Playmaker's move had allowed him to destroy "Wormhole Defense". Faust declared that he still wouldn't lose, though Playmaker made him doubt his words when he went into the black Data Gale to use "Storm Access", retrieving and Link Summoning "Powercode Talker". Playmaker used the effects of "Powercode Talker" to negate "Spreader Queen's" effects and double its own ATK. As Playmaker prepared to attack, Faust tried to warn him of the Ignis being a threat, but Ai told Playmaker to ignore Faust, and "Powercode Talker" destroyed "Motor Worm Spreader Queen", defeating Faust. Before vanishing, Faust tried to warn Playmaker that he may have just doomed humanity's future. As with the other Commanders, Faust was purged, not being logged into LINK VRAINS and remaining unconscious.[8]
IgnisEdit
After Playmaker defeated Varis in their second Master Duel, Alec was freed from his coma. Three months after the Tower of Hanoi incident, Faust, Varis, Spectre, and Dr. Genome logged into the Knights of Hanoi's control room to discuss recent events; the Cyberse had been destroyed while they were building the Tower of Hanoi and the Ignis had been scattered. Varis noted that the Fire Ignis had joined forces with his Origin, Theodore Hamilton. Faust suggested attacking Yusaku and Theodore in the real world, but Varis ordered him not to, wishing to confine their battle to the network. They decided to observe events before making their move, and Alec then aided Roken, Spectre, and Genome in breaking Klarissa out of the high-security prison that she'd been imprisoned in.[9]
Fasut and his fellow Knights aided Varis in rescuing Playmaker from Lightning and Windy; Faust and the other Knights attacking and destroying Windy's fabricated Cyberse. Faust defeated an Echo with "Motor Worm Spreader Queen".[10][11] After defeating the Echoes, Faust, Baira and Genome entered Windy's palace to find Varis on 100 LP, though Faust noted that 100 LP was plenty as it wasn't zero. Spectre and Soulburner arrived and Lightning attempted to capture them, though the FIRE Ignis, "Flame" blocked Lightning's efforts and freed Playmaker and Ai. Varis then defeated Windy, and ordered the Commanders to erase him. Faust and the other Commanders unleashed a virus that impaled Windy on spikes, but Lightning rescued him. Bohman and Harlin then arrived, and Lightning revealed Jin Kolter.[12] Lightning revealed that he had been behind the destruction of the Cyberse, though he couldn't settle matters due to Baira and Genome's virus infecting Windy and he fled after declaring war on humanity. Faust and the Knights remained in Windy's palace as Playmaker and Soulburner pursued Lightning, Bohman and Harlin. Varis decided to let Playmaker and SOL Technologies battle the Ignis for now, and ordered the Knights to let SOL Technologies know the Ignis' location.[13]
When Varis enacted his plan to use the Tower of Hanoi to scan for Lightning's location, Alec, Klarissa, and Genome remained on his speedboat to support Varis and Spectre from the real world.[14] Their feed suddenly deactivated, and Klarissa asked her fellow Commanders what had happened; Alec explained that the entrance to Mirror LINK VRAINS had closed and they started working on getting their connection back. Kolter sent them the feeds of Playmaker's team; Alec began using it as a foothold to hack into Mirror LINK VRAINS. They watched as Lightning approached Spectre to Duel him, locking Spectre down on the first turn with an Extra Link. Alec and Genome worried over whether Spectre would be able to break the Extra Link, and Klarissa noted that they would have to trust Spectre.[15] Spectre was able to reverse the Extra Link, but Lightning defeated him and claimed his data.[16] Soulburner was able to defeat Windy and Flame absorbed his data, but Bohman defeated Blue Maiden and acquired hers, Aqua's, and Earth's data. Footage then showed Playmaker Dueling Kolter, and Klarissa received a program from Kolter to hack LINK VRAINS; Alec deduced that Kolter had anticipated being used by Lightning and had sent them the program as a result, and they quickly worked to finish it.[17] They finished the program just as Playmaker defeated Kolter.[18] The Commanders launched the program, destroying the barriers imprisoning everyone and Alec immediately contacted Varis. Varis reassured them he was all right and he asked Alec to send a message to Lightning, then to go to the Café Nom food truck in Den City to safeguard Kolter and work from there.[19][20]
Alec and Genome left Klarissa on Roken's speedboat and successfully found the van, where they found Kolter's comatose body and his monitor depicting Soulburner Dueling Bohman.[20] As Varis predicted, Lightning approached him; Alec was confident that Varis would win the Duel. He watched as Varis revealed that Lightning was the sole Ignis responsible for the Ignis turning against humanity in Dr. Kogami's simulations.[21] Varis was able to corner Lightning, but before he could declare his final attack, Lightning held Jin's data hostage.[22] Alec noted that previously Varis wouldn't have had a problem with attacking, and seethed that they had created a terror in the form of the Light Ignis. After Varis ended his turn, Bohman took Jin and Spectre's data from Lightning to allow them to Duel fairly. During the Duel, Lightning revealed that he had been the one who had infected Dr. Kogami with the computer virus, much to Alec's fury; he declared that their revenge should have solely targeted the Light Ignis from the start. Lightning ended the Duel in an apparent DRAW, much to Alec's horror and he watched in shock as Varis fragmented into data. However, Lightning had converted some of Jin's consciousness data into LP, allowing him to survive the Duel and give himself to Bohman, giving Bohman the data of five of the Ignis.[23]
Alec watched the final Duel between Playmaker and Bohman, urging him not to let Varis's sacrifice go to waste. Bohman created an Ignis algorithm that began attacking the users who were trapped in LINK VRAINS, and Alec realized that the events were coinciding with the Duel. To Alec's shock, Bohman revealed that the algorithm was a Neuron Link that used the brainpower of the humans it trapped to create his Link-5 monster, "Chimera Hydradrive Dragrid".[24] Klarissa ordered them to analyze the Neuron Link; Alec had to warn Genome that they were not analyzing the algorithm for fun. Curious users began logging in and were trapped by the Neuron Link; Alec noted that Bohman had intentionally allowed logins to maintain the Neuron Link. Genome eventually deduced that the overlap between the two LINK VRAINS was the key to stopping the Neuron Link and the Commanders began looking into it. When Klarissa warned them that there would be more victims if Bohman used his Skill again, Alec had an epiphany, realizing that the power Bohman had to use when activating his Skill could present a vulnerability in the Neuron Link for them to exploit. Alec suggested they could attack the Neuron Link from inside and outside LINK VRAINS, and Klarissa revealed that Akira Zaizen and Ghost Gal were in LINK VRAINS. Alec contacted them, telling them that he was Faust and informing them of their plan.[25] He also contacted Playmaker, warning him not to reply to avoid alerting Bohman and informing him of their plan. The Commanders' attack was successful, though the Neuron Link trapped Zaizen and Ghost Gal after they launched their own attack. Bohman then began repairing the Neuron Link, so to Alec's shock, Ai sacrificed himself to stop it. Despite Ai's sacrifice, Bohman used LINK VRAINS itself as data to restore the Neuron Link and obtain "Perfectron Hydradrive Dragon", reducing Playmaker to 100 LP.[26] Alec watched as Ai returned and Playmaker defeated Bohman with "Firewall Dragon Darkfluid".[27]
AiEdit
Alec and Genome left Café Nom after Bohman was defeated, before Kolter woke up. The Knights of Hanoi continued to monitor the network, willing to oppose Ai if he turned against humanity. Zaizen came to the Knights of Hanoi to request protection from Ai and Roboppi, who were targeting him for his code key to SOL Technologies. Varis agreed to help Zaizen, and that the Knights of Hanoi would turn themselves in after Ai had been dealt with, as their mission would be over. Faust joined Varis, Spectre, Genome and Baira at the defunct Central Station, meeting with Zaizen, Blue Maiden, Soulburner, The Gore, Ghost Gal and The Shepherd. Faust was assigned to team with The Gore and the other Commanders to guard the western interior entrance. As they moved to cover their assigned positions, Playmaker finally arrived to join the battle.[28]
Varis, Playmaker and Soulburner were engaged by copies of Ai to distract them, while the real Ai swiftly defeated Baira and Genome in a Speed Tag Duel. Despite the fall of his fellow Commanders, Faust still bravely engaged Ai himself, refusing to let him reach Zaizen even if it would cost him his life.[29] Spectre came to reinforce Faust and allied with him in a Tag Speed Duel, but they were both defeated and their data taken by Ai.[30] Faust was released after Playmaker defeated Ai, but the Knights did not turn themselves in, according to Soulburner's wishes after he had defeated Varis in a Duel.[31][32] Alec noted that the entire network would become larger as a result of its new prosperity, and it would subsequently need protectors like the Knights of Hanoi.[32]
DeckEdit
Alec plays a "Motor Worm" Deck. His strategy focuses on disrupting the opponent's strategies by changing their monsters to Insect-Types. While his opponent's monsters are Insects, he can utilize his Continuous Spells to minimize his opponent's ability to utilize their monsters, while providing himself benefits.
