AppearanceEdit

Full-body view of Sukai.

In their original form, Sukai appears as a myriad of lime green skyfish. Using their ability, Sukai can take on many different appearances, the most frequent being "the Informant", a young boy with messy green hair, donning an outfit befitting a detective or an investigator, comprised of a brown trench coat, with what appears to be a tuxedo underneath it, and a fedora.[3] Other than that, they have been shown to be able to take on the form of Yuhi and a horrifying mass of green specters. They can also merge into individual items instead of persons, such as a functional Duel Disk Deck container.[1]

PersonalityEdit

Sukai is a mysterious character, befitting an informant, being privy to intel and secret information, and showing a fascination towards things they do not know about. They appear to dislike reflective surfaces, such as mirrors and windows, likely because it hinders their abilities.[3]

Voice/MannerismsEdit

Sukai speaks in a sing-song, fairly flamboyant way. When pieces of them are around while the rest of them are in their human guise, they usually harmonize together with them. Sukai refers to themself in plural, using the pronoun "We-tachi" when speaking. Just like many other aliens in the show, Sukai often ends their sentences with a tic relating to their character, in their case "sky".

AbilitiesEdit

Normally, Sukai appears as a school of skyfish, a type of cryptid that appears as an elongated visual artifact in photographic images and video recordings. However, Sukai has the ability to merge into a myriad of different forms. While they typically take the form of a green-haired investigator, they can also mimic other people and even objects, such as a Duel Disk Deck container. Otherwise, they could also simply use their numbers to amalgamate and form simple shapes such as words on a sign. They even form the "To be continued" sign at the end of episode 16.

While not transforming, Sukai possess tremendous speed and agility, which caused them to be able to remain unseen to most people. They are also able to interfere with electronics in this form, enabling them to tamper with devices such as traffic lights to hamper potential chasers.[3] Each individual Skyfish is also assigned a body part of "the Informant" to construct; each body part may require up to hundreds of fragments to complete. Each fragment is assigned a code name according to which body part it would make, for example "Navel No. 81".[4]

EtymologyEdit

When using the Japanese naming convention, Sukai's full name is read as "Sukai Fisher" ("sky fisher"), referencing their cryptid of origin. The kanji characters「須海」that make up their surname can be read as "deep sea".

BiographyEdit

HistoryEdit

Sukai is an informant living in the Alien Residential Area. Many aliens who inhabit the area have at least a knowledge about them, but none have ever seen even a glimpse of them.[5] After Yudias Velgear's Duel with Zuwijo zir Velgear, Sukai took an interest in him, and had been researching him and the UTS ever since.[1]

Second ArcEdit

Sukai learned that Yudias, Yuhi and Yuamu Ohdo were searching for them, and they followed them back to the UTS office. To keep the UTS employees from finding them, Sukai "haunted" Yuhi and warned him not to return underground while ordering him to remove reflections. Eventually Yuamu decided to return underground anyway, and Sukai pursued her, Yudias and Yuhi, fruitlessly attempting to stop them. After Yuamu and Yudias entered a dark building, Yudias attempted to light the darkness with his eye beams, so Sukai attacked his eyes to force Yudias back into his human form. Unfortunately for Sukai, they had been tricked into entering a reflective room where they couldn't hide, and they were forced to coalesce into their human form and reveal their true identity to the UTS employees.[3] Yuamu explained she was looking for Yuna Goha and challenged Sukai to a Rush Duel for the information they had, and though Sukai believed she had no information to offer them given their extensive research on UTS, they accepted the Duel. Aware of Yuamu's LIGHT High Tech Dragon monsters, Sukai countered Yuamu's tactics with anti-LIGHT cards and strengthened their monsters to make them immune to the effect of Yuamu's "Blue Tooth Burst Dragon", before severely reducing the ATK of her monsters by the number of LIGHT monsters in Yuamu's Graveyard with "Golondrinas Jail". Yuamu was able to survive Sukai's attacks, but Sukai believed she would be unable to defeat them with her current Deck. To their surprise, Yuamu began discarding cards that didn't suit her Deck, and she admitted she'd snuck a freshly opened booster pack into her Deck while the reflective room had been darkened to throw off Sukai's predictions. Sukai believed the strategy would be ineffective, but Yuamu drew and Summoned "Red Boot Boost Dragon", whose DARK Attribute and effect to return monsters from Yuamu's Graveyard to her Deck completely countered Sukai's strategy, and Yuamu defeated them.[1]

Sukai admitted afterwards they didn't know anything about Yuna, but that this likely meant she was at the Rovian Bandits' Badloon Castle, which could only be entered by attaining the Macho Rank. They suggested Yuamu, Yuhi and Yudias could raise their rank by Dueling at the Coruffium.[1] Sukai took the three of them to the Coruffium and bade them farewell, but as they were flying through the streets of the Alien Residential Area, they were captured with a vacuum cleaner by Yuna Goha herself.[6] Yuna trapped Sukai's skyfish in a plastic bag and took them with her to the Coruffium to meet Yuamu, Yuhi and Yudias, abusing Sukai every time they tried to divulge her identity. Sukai was forced to watch as Yuna Rush Dueled Yudias for his and the Ohdo twins' Duel Power, and eventually confirmed her identity after she revealed it in frustration due to Yudias believing her to be the person who gave her his Duel Disk. After Yuna defeated Yudias, she took Sukai with her.[7]

DeckEdit

Sukai uses a Sky Fossil Deck, comprised of WIND Attribute Zombie Type monsters taking on the appearance of Cambrian life forms. Their playstyle revolves around anti-LIGHT Attribute strategies combined with ATK manipulation and Graveyard resource management.
