Forum:Ceremonial Battle renames

I've tagged some of these pages for renaming, but haven't gotten a response. Maybe someone here can take a look.

• Ceremonial Battle to Battle Ritual; In the English dub this is what the characters call the Duel. It's also another legitimate way of translating the Japanese name.
• Ceremonial Battle (arc) to Battle Ritual (arc); I don't think the dub officially names the arc, but it has the same name as the battle in the Japanese anime. We might as well keep the translation consistent. I thought about using "The Final Duel", but that's only used in 4 out of 5 episode names for the arc.
• Ceremonial Battle (manga) to Rite of the Duel; This is what the characters call it in the English manga. "Rite of the Duel" also seems to be another legitimate way of translating the Japanese name.
• Ceremonial Battle (manga arc) to Rite of the Duel (arc); Again, keeping the translation consistent for the Duel and arc names.
• Memories of the Duel King: Ceremonial Battle to Memories of the Duel King: Battle Ritual Arc or Memories of the Duel King: Ceremonial Battle Arc; Usually the English anime names are used for OCG and TCG products, but Memories of the Duel King: Ceremonial Battle Arc is strictly an official name for the product. The English-language Asian sides of yugioh-card.com use this name; Taiwan, Hong Kong. But I think they have used some strange translations in the past.

To be completely honest, I don't even think that this should be an arc. At the very least, Takahashi doesn't seem to qualify it as such in Duel Art. Sanokal K-T (talk • contribs) 23:43, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

The English names of the Duel I definitely think we should be using, for the anime and manga.

For the set, I would support using official Asian-English names for Japanese products. If they use strange translations in some cases, it might be worth reviewing those cases before using them, but if their translation is a good translation of the Japanese I would rather use it. Also, the set name includes "Arc", so our translation should too.

For the arcs, I think "The Final Duel" does appear to be the dub's name for the arc, even though it doesn't include one of the episodes that the Japanese side does. I think just use the English name and not worry about it. For the manga arc, may as well just use the English manga name of the Duel. (Also, while I don't have Duel Art to check, I had thought that Deltaneos put "Story 9" and "Final Section" in the titles in the lead because they appear in Duel Art as arcs, not in spite of it. And there's also the fact that the Memories of the Duel King set calls it an arc.) --SnorlaxMonster 00:28, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for the replies. What does Duel Art say about arcs? I know that Yu-Gi-Oh! Character Guidebook: Millennium Book and Yu-Gi-Oh! Okay. I see the Duel Art ones at 33 seconds in this video. (On another note, I think we should use their DDM picture for Dungeon Dice Monsters (manga arc).) That division matches what was used in Yu-Gi-Oh! bunkoban - Volume 001. But Yu-Gi-Oh! Character Guidebook: Millennium Book definitely has "Tournament Finals" and "Ceremonial Battle" as separate arcs than "Battle City" and "King's Memory".

Similarly for the anime, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Anime Complete Guide: Millennium Memory (2016) added three arcs that were not in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th Anniversary Animation Book (2010); "Domino City Battles", "Battle City (part 2)" and "Ceremonial Battle".

So there are two official ways of dividing each series into arcs? How do we handle that? I think we should try to acknowledge both, but if we have to chose one, would we chose the more recent one? Lucil (talk • contribs) 17:24, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
