Can I destroy the God Cards with a card effect?

No

That is the short answer.

I am guessing that we are talking about the powerful God Cards from the cartoon that Yugi used?

If so... My friend who is a God Card fanatic tells me that you must either prevent the summon of the God Card or over power it in battle once one is in play.

Of course it is hard to over power them as one has 4000 attack! One gets stronger for every card in it's controllers hand. And Ra... well, he can get very strong too.

I am guessing that you are playing someone who uses the God Cards? I also assume that you know that they are not legal in tourney play?

If so... Try using Honest to over power them.

Or, Forced Back to stop their summon!

Good Luck.

Forced Back won't work. Obelisk's normal summon can't be negated. (And yes it's a real card.) And you can't respond to its summon with Torrential Tribute or Bottomless. Nor can it be targeted.
So, how do you beat it? Yes, you can overpower it with Honest or Kalut the Moon Shadow. But you can also win with D.D. Warrior Lady and Ally of Justice Catastor - their effects don't target. Mirror Force and Lightning Vortex also can do the job. In short, non-targeting effects are the way to go. Runer5h 19:21, October 20, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

-no, i think Lightning Vortex targetting all face up monster on opponent field, it means that Lightning Vortex target one by one monster on opponent field. In other words that also target the God Cards.

Lighting Vortex does not target.ever. Besides, you now have a good excuse to have a Really Big Beatstick and some Minor attack Augmentation.

Come to think of it, Morphtronics would probably not have such a hard time dealing with Obelisk either; their Double Tools and such mean that they can get very strong very quickly. Which is why I think you should use Reverse Trap in an Obelisk deck, to protect it. Runer5h 19:20, October 21, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Or Overwhelm if Stardust isn't a problem.--Helix-king 21:27, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

Not the Real One...

Oh no, I was not talking about the Real Obelisk (did I spell that right?) that is coming out.

I was refering only to the God Cards that came out only as promos that all the God card fans bought.

You know... the ones that are now worth next to nothing on ebay!

The ones with the different colored backs.

The original post never specified that it was the real obelisk.

So I responded to what I thought the question was asking.

As long as we are still on the subject...

Can the summon of the Original Promo Only Obelisk be negated by say: Forced Back

Obviously we are entering in to the realm of guess work because I am and was refering to the card with

the Blue backround and flavor text!

lol

The Real usable Obelisk is almost nothing in comparison to the one I was talking about.

Just wanted to clear that up.

you can't use to "real" one. The card says so. ( look in corner)--Helix-king 06:54, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes, I realize that Helix-king.

It is just the the question was this: "Can I destroy the God Cards with a card effect?" The question was not: How can one defeat Obelisk the Tormentor (Effect Monster) ? So I was merely trying to answer the question as I read it. I know you can not use the Blue Promo ONLY Obelisk in a duel. I even tell the asker that in my first response. It is just that he asked about God CARDS (note the s at the end of the word card). Thus I figured he was asking about the promo cards and not the NEW Obelisk coming out. Thus I also assume he/she is playing someone in a friendly duel who uses the set of God Card(s)! So, my suggestions stand to prevent the summon of a God Card. ( perhaps using Forced Back ) Or...overpower the beasts. The problem is that one must guess at how to defeat a God Card as they have only "flavor" text on them. Unless the asker was in fact talking about the NEW Obelisk coming out... Then we have a different story here. Thankfully that question was answered too. But once again, He/she said CARDS not card. So, once again what is everyone's thought on how to defeat the Gods? Keeping in mind: 1) We all know we can not use them in a duel. 2) We are not talking about the NEW Obelisk coming out. Thanks. 12.75.117.205 05:09, October 23, 2009 (UTC)AceCloudKicker

The immunity offered to God Cards in the anime/manga is confusing and sometimes contradictory:
In total,
  • All Spell Cards apparently work, but the effect ends at the end of the turn.
  • All targeting Trap Cards work. Non-targeting Traps cannot destroy them, but otherwise work. The effect ends at the end of the turn.
  • Monster effects may or may not work, as above.
"Forced Back" would probably not work, since it doesn't target.

In the real card of Obelisk the Tormentor, meanwhile, Forced Back would NOT work at all. You can't negate the normal summon of Obelisk with Forced Back or Solemn Judgment. Heck, you can't even respond to its summon with Bottomless Trap Hole, even though it doesn't target. I think your best bet would be Lightning Vortex. On a related note, I hope to see some competent Obelisk decks at Shonen Jumps. 01:09, October 24, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Personal Breakthrough

I have constructed a deck that is powerful enough to beat an Egyptian God Card. I would know because I tested the deck against all three gods in one test subject deck, three times in a row, and beat them in all three, just yesterday! Then, I just beat the rest of the test subject deck as one normally would.

How on earth did you find this topic, and why did you revive it? Nobody has posted anything here in over a year, so why did you feel that you had to bring back this thread?--Akiza Izayoi (talkcontribs) 20:12, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Surprisingly it wasn't me necrolinking this time. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 00:13, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

Well, now that this thread is back, I've got to say that Darkness Neosphere takes the gold at beating Egyption Gods. Drew-Gi-Oh! (talkcontribs) 01:49, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

So does the Wicked Gods since they are pretty powerful themselves. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 05:52, July 10, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know how this forum thing works. I have no idea what you mean by "revive"

--knaik 04:07, July 09, 2010 (PTC)

When a topic has died, and you post on it, you bring it back from being, theoreticly, "Dead", which what reviving is: bringing back from unconscieousness/death. Drew-Gi-Oh! (talkcontribs) 00:46, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

Prideful Roar, end of story. 24.12.251.225 (talk) 02:20, July 13, 2010 (UTC)
