Forum:Rulings & Mechanics Pages Requiring Changes

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Following on from some discussions in the Yugipedia Discord chat, this thread will list pages currently on the Pedia that the rulings team will be looking at to update, in some manner, so aling with the proper terminology/mechanics of the Yugioh card game, with the aim of ending misinformation, and ensuring the Pedia becomes a reliable source of information for all kinds of players, including those who attend tournaments.

Anyone with any concerns, questions, comments, queries, etc. about why a change to any of these pages has been deemed necessary, are welcome to discuss in this thread, or alternative tag the @Rulings role in the Yugipedia Discord server (if you do not receive a reply to a comment here, please alert the team by tagging the role on Discord).

List of pages from the Gameplay table that use unofficial or fan-made jargon that doesn't exist in modern Yugioh. This list will be updated as changes are made, or new pages are identified as in need of revision.

List of Pages Requiring Revision[edit]

Unofficial, player invented mechanic. Does not exist. (The list can be retained and incorporated elsewhere.) Renamed/redirected to Must be Fusion Summoned with listed Fusion Materials
Does not exist.
"Classes" of toons do not exist. The Pedia should encourage players to read their cards to determine how they work.
Classes sections have been removed. Any distinction dialogue to "replace" them can be found on the talk page for Toon monsters or my user page. Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 18:13, 9 October 2018 (EDT)
Pages need to be reorganised and consoladated, with unofficial terms removed. (The Japanese terms can be mentioned in the article as how the cards are written in Japanese, but they don't require a separate article).
  • "-like" effects
These can all be consolodated on their respective main pages, and simply described in a few easy paragraphs.
This is no different to the fast effect timing page.
This isn't a label, but rather something that effects can be described as doing.
Brought up by Noah; an old UDE term that does not seem to have a proper Japanese equivalent (much like Strict Fusion Summon). Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 16:41, 8 October 2018 (EDT)

Comments[edit]

"Strict Fusion Summon" can easily be retooled into a category; "Must be Fusion Summoned with listed materials" for example. Toons do all have these specific manners of writing their text, which I feel should be noted, but the Class moniker absolutely needs to go (and the so-called Classes A and E merged). EDIT: The Perfect Rulebook seems to refer to what we currently call "Unconfirmed Effect" as "Other effects". Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 08:24, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Yeah, the Strict Fusion Summon page just needs to be renamed to be more descriptive. Sanokal's suggested title is fine.
  • Toons are like any large archetype, there's a few subgroups within them, so those need to be delineated on the page. I'd rather not try and invent names for the different groups though, so just calling them "class A" etc. rather than trying to come up with a name for each of them seems to be the best solution here. An alternative might be to classify them by release period, like Field Searcher.
  • Game state and actions could easily be merged into fast effect timing. They don't contribute anything that's not already covered there.
  • "-like" effects may as well just be merged into their corresponding monster effect pages since there's not really any functional difference, so that we don't need to duplicate content. Obviously the terms themselves are still necessary though, since the main terms refer only to monster effects.
  • Unconfirmed Effect needs to be changed to a descriptive title that actually defines what it is referring to.
  • May as well cover Special Summon-only monster and Nomi on Special Summon Monster so that all the information is in one place. Of course, official terms like "Special Summon-only monster" would still need to be mentioned on that page.
  • I don't really understand what the suggestion regarding Lingering Effect is. --SnorlaxMonster 12:35, 8 October 2018 (UTC)
"Unconfirmed Effects" can also just be changed to a category, rather than a whole article. Their main characteristic is that they're lingering effects that originate from a non-activated effect and are thus independent of the monster that applied them. The category can be titled something like: "Applies non-activated effect at time of Summon that cannot be negated/removed once already applied," off the top of my head.
