If a monster on the field is unaffected by Spells, can I use it to Ritual or Fusion Summon?

I only ask because when I was playing Duel Links, I had The Legendary Fisherman and Umi on the field, Fortress Whale, Fortress Whale's Oath, and a Level 4 monster in my hand and couldn't perform the Ritual.

Then I got to thinking: Ritual Spells tribute as the effect of a Spell Card, and cards like Polymerization send materials as Spell effects. So is my thinking correct, or should I have been able to Ritual Summon? Sabre Knight (talkcontribs) 06:35, April 8, 2017 (UTC)

The interesting thing about Polymerization and Ritual spells is that they don't actually affect your cards.Activating a fusion card/effect allows the player to conduct a fusion summon, using materials from specified locations (polymerization designates hand and field). Polymerization doesn't do anything to your monsters, rather it allows you, the player, to use those monsters as material. Similar case for rituals.

The process: 1 Activate Polymerization
2 When it resolves, you conduct a fusion summon, using monsters from the proper locations as material
2a in this process, you the player sends cards to the proper location (the graveyard for poly), then special summons the proper fusion to the field

Wrong.
Polymerization IS an effect. That's the whole point of cards like Shaddoll's having the "when sent to graveyard by a card effect" for triggers. they go off when used as Fusion Material.
Ditto with Ritual spells. (Fun fact: Gishki Photomirror is the only card in the game that pays life Without it being a cost)
Monster Immune to Spell effects are immune to these cards. so you CAN prevent something from becoming fusion material by targeting it with Forbidden Lance for example. you can do the same with a Rank-Up-Magic or Ritual Spell card.
so in your example, no you cannot use the Legendary Fisherman as Tribute for a Ritual. if you don't have enough levels around, then you cannot activate the ritual.

Wrong.
"Clashing Souls" was released before you made that answer. (All in good fun.) --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 05:57, April 12, 2017 (UTC)
Correction
It WAS the only card that payed Life without being a Cost
