* This card's name is based on a parable about Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu, the three great unifiers of Japan who ended the Sengoku Era of Japan, characterizing the differences in their personalities and politics. Each of the 3 effects has a cost which relates to one of the three lords.

** Nobunaga was characterized with the line "If the cuckoo does not sing, kill it" (鳴かぬなら 殺してしまえ ほととぎす). Nobunaga was known for his ruthlessness and ambitions, reflected in the first effect of destroying itself.

** Hideyoshi was characterized with the line "If the cuckoo does not sing, coax it" (鳴かぬなら 鳴かしてみしょう ほととぎす). Hideyoshi was known for his persuasiveness and negotiating skills, reflected in the second effect of discarding a card.

** Ieyasu was characterized with the line "If the cuckoo does not sing, wait for it" (鳴かぬなら 鳴くまで待とう ほととぎす). Ieyasu was known for his patience and caution, reflected in the third effect of waiting until the End Phase.
