Gansley, known as Konosuke Oshita in the Japanese version, is the former Vice-President of Business Strategy of KaibaCorp and the leader/founder of the Big Five where he is the oldest of the group.
+
Summary
 +
Continuing the Duel in progress, Shoma Yusa has just declared that during this turn, he will break through Jukyu's "God Strong Wind" combo. Des, watching the Duel in progress, wants to believe that Shoma's just bluffing, but doesn't think he's the type to do so. Jukyu is confused at how he plans to do this, but realizes that he didn't read the effects of the "Tenyi" monsters during Deck construction, so he doesn't have any idea what they do. Nevertheless, he still believes that between the lock-down of Spells and Traps caused by his "Simorgh" monsters, as well as the free negation of any activated effect from "Mist Valley Apex Avian", Shoma still won't be able to overcome.

Design
+
However, Shoma shows that he doesn't need to rely on high-ATK monsters or Spells/Traps to win. With clever use of the cards he has and their effects on the field and in the Graveyard, he soon rids the field of the "God Strong Wind" monsters, even taking heavy damage to his LP doing so.
Appearance
Gansley is a fair skinned old man with gray hair, who is partially bald. He is short, fat, and carries a cane. He wears a double-breasted tan suit. In the Virtual World, he takes the appearance of Deepsea Warrior. He bears some resemblance to the historical figure of Ciceron, this may or not may be intentional.

Personality
+
Des is impressed with how Shoma, the unassuming Duelist from nowhere, has turned the Duel around so swiftly. However, she knows that Jukyu's reputation as one of the Four Elementary School Duel Kings is well-earned. Sure enough, Strong plants his feet and begins his turn. He declares that no matter what, his "Simorgh" will always take to the sky again and again, and in no time at all, he has reconstructed his "God Strong Wind" combo from nothing.
Gansley is obsessed with business, and as such refers to his monsters as employees. He often flaunts his knowledge of business and believes that his corporate experience gives him an advantage when it comes to Dueling. He is shown to have been unethical in his career, often firing employees as he pleased. In the dub, he gives Yugi Muto advice on business, claiming his own career as a corporate tycoon started as a child, where he stole a lemonade stand from a neighbor, and expanded that into the largest distributor of frozen canned lemonade in his region.

In the Japanese version, he quotes various warlords and philosophers on how to build a successful army.
+
Jukyu knows that Shoma has more of his powerful "Tenyi" monsters waiting to trap him, but he has no true way to counter them. But the best defense is a good offense, he says - that's how Jukyu Goriki duels. He attacks despite the risks, and in no time at all, even during Jukyu's Battle Phase, Shoma uses his monsters to once again break Jukyu's combo, leaving him only with "Simorgh of Darkness". He laments that despite his combo, he ended up only going card-to-card with Shoma in the end.

In the Japanese version, Gansley knows of Yami Yugi's existence and refers to Yugi as Type-A and Yami Yugi as Type-B Yugi. In the dub, Gansley shows no knowledge of Yami Yugi.
+
Shoma begins his turn by once again using his monsters' effects to destroy Jukyu's remaining monster. He then reveals the cards he chose during Deck construction earlier to make up for his lack of certain "Tenyi" cards: the "Yang Zing", chosen due to the "Tenyi" possessing not only Wyrm support, but a Tuner without a Synchro Monster (thankfully for Shoma, one such card would be released later that year). With the "Tenyi" and the "Yang Zing" by his side, Shoma swiftly amasses the monsters he needs to reduce Jukyu's LP to 0, winning him the first Duel of the event.

Gansley also enjoys making people suffer. This is shown when he had the chance of defeating Yami Yugi, but chose to "draw it out as long as possible." Gansley's choice of prolonging his victory ended in his own defeat.
+
Jukyu is sent flying back from his defeat, not because of the Virtual Solid Vision used by their Duel Disks, but due to a penchant for theatrics. In truth, despite his defeat, he is thrilled at having found a good opponent in Shoma, and challenges Shoma to a more casual match on the spot. Shoma accepts the challenge, only to be reminded by Des that they would have to continue this on their own time, as there is still an event happening, and they have two more Duels to play.

Voice/mannerisms
+
The Rising Rampage Deck Construction event ends, with Shoma having won all three of his Duels with the Deck he built. Des notes that for a Duelist who's lacked an opponent for three years, Shoma handled himself very well. Shoma makes good on his promise and stays at the Satellite Shop, playing with "Strong" Jukyu Goriki, his first friend in Tokyo, until well past nightfall. So ends Shoma Yusa's first day in the big city.
In the dub, Gansley speaks with a somewhat hoarse voice. In the Duelist Kingdom arc, his voice is low. In the Virtual Realm arc, his voice deepens and is louder.

Biography
+
...Of course, he never told his sister Ageha that he'd left, nor that he'd be staying so late. The poor teenager has no idea the sort of lecture he has waiting for him when he gets home.
KaibaCorp
Gansley worked as vice-president of business strategy at KaibaCorp. Gansley, along with 4 other KaibaCorp employees formed a group known as the Big Five.

Seto Kaiba, the adoptive son of the head of KaibaCorp, Gozaburo Kaiba, convinced the Big Five that Gozaburo was mistreating them and that Setup would help restore them to their former power. The Big Five agreed, and thus bought 49% of KaibaCorp. Combined with 2% that Gozaburo had previously given to Seto for a test to prove his business skill, the Big Five voted out Gozaburo and voted in Seto as the president of the company.

Featured Duel: Shoma Yusa vs Strong Jukyu
 +
Duel continues from the previous Chapter.

Duelist Kingdom
+
Both players have 8000 LP. Strong Jukyu controls "Simorgh, Lord of the Storms" (3200/2300), "Simorgh of Darkness" (3200/2300), and "Mist Valley Apex Avian" (3000/2300) in Attack Position, as well as "Simorgh, Bird of Calamity" (1800/500) in Defense Position and "Elborz, the Sacred Lands of Simorgh" in his Field Zone. Shoma controls "Monk of the Tenyi" (1000/↓). It is Shoma's turn.
However, Seto quickly backed out on their deal, left them of their power and leaving the Big Five little more than figureheads and consultants. Furious over their betrayal, the Big Five struck a deal with the president of Industrial Illusions, Maximillion Pegasus in an attempt to overthrow Seto. If Pegasus defeated Seto and Yugi Muto in Duels, then they will use their 49% to vote Pegasus into power of the company by kidnapping Mokuba Kaiba, who had been entrusted with the security codes to the two percent the Big Five needed.

The Big Five and Pegasus' plan failed, after Pegasus was defeated by Yugi. In the manga, Gansley and the Big Five were fired by Seto and were never seen again.
+
<u>Turn 2: Shoma Yusa</u><br />
 +
Since he controls a non-Effect Monster, Shoma activates the second effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" in his Graveyard, banishing it to return Jukyu's "Mist Valley Apex Avian" to his hand. Next, since he controls no Effect Monsters, Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana" in his hand, Special Summoning it (L4/400/2000) in Defense Position. Shoma sets "Shthana" and "Monk of the Tenyi" (2 Wyrm monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Shaman of the Tenyi" (1600/↙ ↘).

Legendary Heroes
+
Shoma activates the effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi" to discard 1 card, then Special Summon 1 Wyrm monster from his Graveyard. He discards "Tenyi Spirit - Adhara" to Special Summon "Monk of the Tenyi". Shoma attacks "Simorgh, Lord of the Storm" with "Monk of the Tenyi". As an attack was declared involving his non-Effect Monster, Shoma activates the second effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi" to destroy a card Jukyu controls. He destroys "Simorgh, Lord of the Storm". A replay occurs, and Shoma attacks "Simorgh of Darkness" with "Monk of the Tenyi". "Monk of the Tenyi" is destroyed (Shoma LP: 8000 → 5800).

In the anime, the Big Five avoided being fired by making excuses and offering Seto his complete virtual reality game as a peace offering. Eager to try out the virtual reality game, Kaiba refrained from immediately firing them and entered the virtual world. The Big Five then trapped Kaiba in the virtual reality.

However Kaiba was rescued by Mokuba, Yugi, Joey, and Mai Valentine. The Big Five reprogrammed the game and set the "Mythic Dragon" as the final boss. However, it was defeated by Yugi and Kaiba's "Dragon Master Knight".
+
Since a non-Effect Monster he controls was destroyed by battle, Shoma activates the second effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana" in his Graveyard, banishing it to Special Summon the destroyed monster, then destroy a monster Jukyu controls. He Special Summons "Monk of the Tenyi", then destroys "Simorgh of Darkness". Shoma then attacks and destroys "Simorgh, Bird of Calamity" with the newly Summoned "Monk of the Tenyi". "Simorgh, Bird of Calamity" was Summoned by its second effect, and so is banished. Since a Winged Beast monster he controls was destroyed by battle, Jukyu activates the effect of "Simorgh, Lord of the Storm" in his Graveyard, adding it to his hand. Shoma attacks Jukyu directly with "Shaman of the Tenyi" (Jukyu LP: 8000 → 6400).

Virtual Realm
+
Shoma activates "Vessel for the Dragon Cycle" to send a Wyrm monster from his Deck to the Graveyard, then, because he controls a non-Effect Monster, add a "Tenyi" monster from his Deck to his hand. He sends "Tenyi Spirit - Adhara" to the Graveyard and adds "Tenyi Spirit - Nahata" to his hand. Because he controls a non-Effect Monster, Shoma activates the effect of "Adhara" in his Graveyard to add one of his banished Wyrm monsters back to his hand. He adds "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda".
After losing in Legendary Heroes, the Big Five got trapped in the virtual world instead of Kaiba. Here they met up with Noah Kaiba. Having Seto as a common enemy, they made plans for revenge.

During the Battle City tournament, Noah had the KaibaCorp blimp sucked into an undersea fortress, where the virtual world's main servers are. They forced Seto and Mokuba Kaiba, along with Yugi and his friends into the virtual world again. Using an altered set of Duel Monsters rules, involving Deck Masters, the Big Five Dueled their enemies in the hopes of stealing their bodies to escape the virtual reality.
+
To end his turn, Shoma Sets a card and activates the Field Spell "Flawless Perfection of the Tenyi". Finally, he sets "Shaman of the Tenyi" and "Monk of the Tenyi" (2+ monsters, including a Link Monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Berserker of the Tenyi (3000/↑ ↗ ↘).

+
<u>Turn 3: Strong Jukyu</u><br />
Gansley took the form of "Deepsea Warrior", which he used as his Deck Master. He chose to Duel Yami Yugi, and claimed to have perfected a strategy to defeat him. As Yami Yugi constructed a Deck, Gansley misinterpreted Yami Yugi saying "Kuriboh", as him choosing "Kuriboh" as his Deck Master. He refused to let the Pharaoh change his Deck Master after that. Exploiting his Deck Master's ability to deflect attacks back at Yami Yugi, Gansley managed to get the upper hand against Yami Yugi and was about to win, but Yugi took control and used "Kuriboh's" Deck Master effect to save them. Yami then used "Kuriboh", combined with "Rainbow Blessing", allowing him to bypass Gansley's monsters and special ability to directly attack him with "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight", defeating him.
+
During Jukyu's Standby Phase, Shoma activates his Set "Waterfall of Dragon Souls" to add a Wyrm monster from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana".

Gansley, along with Crump, Johnson, and Leichter, having failed to win their targets' bodies, went behind Noah's back and attempted to steal the bodies. They chased down Duke Devlin, Serenity Wheeler, and Joey. As they argue over who gets which bodies, Noah makes contact and told them off. Since Nezbitt didn't rightfully take Tristan Taylor's body, Noah allowed the Big Five to share Tristan's body in order to Duel Yugi. Should they win, they would get their freedom.
+
The next portion of Jukyu's turn is not shown, but at the end, he controls "Simorgh, Lord of the Storm" (L8/3200/2300), "Simorgh of Darkness" (L8/3200/2300), and "Mist Valley Apex Avian" (L7/3000/2300), all in Attack Position.

The Big Five faced Yugi and Joey, using Tristan's body. The 5 each switched control and Deck Master throughout the Duel. Gansley only took full control for 1 turn. Towards the end of the Duel, the Big Five used "Dragon Revival Ritual" to combine their Deck Masters into the "Mythic Dragon" again. The dragon was destroyed by Yugi and Joey's "Mirage Knight", but the Big 5 used "A Deal with Dark Ruler" to make "Berserk Dragon" their Deck Master. Ultimately, it was destroyed by "Dark Magician Knight", costing them the Duel.
+
Jukyu attacks "Berserker of the Tenyi" with "Simorgh of Darkness". Since an attack was declared involving his non-Effect Monster, Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Nahata" in his hand, banishing it to reduce the ATK of the opponent's battling monster by 1500 until the end of the turn. Jukyu responds with the effect of "Mist Valley Apex Avian", returning it to the hand to negate the activation of Shoma's monster's effect. The battle continues, and "Berserker of the Tenyi" is destroyed (Shoma LP: 5800 → 5600). Since a non-Effect Monster he controls was destroyed by battle, Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana" in his hand, banishing it to Summon the destroyed monster back to his field, then destroy a card that Jukyu controls. He Summons "Berserker of the Tenyi", then destroys "Simorgh, Lord of the Storm".

Noah refused to give the Big Five any more chances. In the original version, Noah deleted Gansley along with the other Big Five members. In the dub, Noah imprisoned the Big Five in the different corners of the Virtual World, which were destroyed when the Virtual World was destroyed. Gansley's fate is unknown. He later appeared in a flashback.

<u>Turn 4: Shoma</u><br />
 +
Note: Shoma's full turn is not depicted during the chapter itself; however, a page from the end of the chapter describes the full turn in detail.

Decks
+
Since he controls no Effect Monsters, Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" in his hand, Special Summoning it (L7/1500/2500) in Defense Position. He sets "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" (1 non-Link "Tenyi" monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon a second "Monk of the Tenyi". He then activates the second effect of "Vishuda" in his Graveyard. Since he controls a non-Effect Monster, he banishes it to return "Simorgh of Darkness" to Jukyu's hand. He also activates the second effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Adhara" in his Graveyard to banish it and return his banished "Tenyi Dragon - Shthana" to his hand. Since he controls no Effect Monsters, he activates the effect of "Shthana" in his hand, Special Summoning it in Defense Position. He then sets "Berserker of the Tenyi" and "Monk of the Tenyi" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon a second "Shaman of the Tenyi".
Anime
Gansley uses a Reptile/WATER Deck that relies on Summoning many monsters to use the ability of his Deck Master "Deepsea Warrior", called "Reflector Hole", which negates an opposing attack and inflicts damage to the opponent equal to the attacking monster's ATK at a cost of two Tributes. Gansley further uses control cards to limit his opponent's options, either depleting their hand or limiting the number of monsters they can maintain on the field.

Shoma activates the first effect of "Denglong" to add a "Yang Zing" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Nine Pillars of Yang Zing". He then activates its second effect to send a Wyrm monster from his Deck to the Graveyard and make the Level of "Denglong" become the sent monster's. He sends "Tenyi Spirit - Mapura", a Level 4 monster, and so "Denglong" becomes Level 4. Shoma activates the first effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi", discarding "Nine Pillars of Yang Zing" to Special Summon "Berserker of the Tenyi" from his Graveyard. He sets "Denglong, First of the the Yang Zing" and "Shaman of the Tenyi" (2 monsters, including a Tuner) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Crystron Halqifibrax" (1500/↙ ↘). Since "Denglong, First of the Yang Zing" left the field, Shoma activates its third effect to Special Summon a "Yang Zing" monster from his Deck. ==Trivia==

*Unlike the other four, Gansley is not shown disintegrating when he is defeated by Yami Yugi.

*He is the only member of the Big Five whose Duel takes three episodes instead of two (though this could likely be due to more focus on the other characters). Ironically, he only Dueled for one turn in the Duel against Yugi and Joey.

*He is also the only member of the Big Five to not express interest in taking a female form; Crump tried to take over Téa's body (Japanese version only), Nezbitt specifically intended to do the same to Serenity over Tristan and Duke, Johnson disguises himself as Mai when he introduces himself to Joey, and Leichter, while not explicitly trying to steal Serenity's body, seemed to give her and Joey equal consideration before getting into an argument with Crump.

*Along with Johnson, Gansley is featured the most in Season 1.

"Tenyi VS Simorgh" (てんVSバーサスシムルグ Ten'i Bāsasu Shimurugu) is the second chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Structures manga. It was first published July 20, 2019, in the V Jump magazine.

Shoma continues his Duel against Strong Jukyu, promising to bring down his opponent's powerful field in a single turn.

Summary

So ends Shoma Yusa's first day in the big city.

...Of course, he never told his sister Ageha that he'd left, nor that he'd be staying so late. The poor teenager has no idea the sort of lecture he has waiting for him when he gets home.

Featured Duel: Shoma Yusa vs Strong Jukyu

Duel continues from the previous Chapter.

Turn 2: Shoma Yusa

Turn 3: Strong Jukyu
During Jukyu's Standby Phase, Shoma activates his Set "Waterfall of Dragon Souls" to add a Wyrm monster from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana".

Turn 4: Shoma
Note: Shoma's full turn is not depicted during the chapter itself; however, a page from the end of the chapter describes the full turn in detail.

Shoma Normal Summons "Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing" (L1/0/0). He tunes the Level 4 "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana" to the Level 1 Tuner "Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing" to Synchro Summon "Denglong, First of the Yang Zing" (L5/0/2800) in Defense Position.

He Special Summons "Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing" (L4/1900/0) in Attack Position.

Shoma attacks Jukyu directly with "Crystron Halqifibrax", "Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing", and "Berserker of the Tenyi" (Jukyu LP: 6400 → 4900 → 3000 → 0).
