German
German is an German language print of cards for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game (TCG), produced for and sold in Germany and Austria, as well as the German-speaking regions of Switzerland, Belgium and more. It made its debut on April 25, 2003 with the release of both the first core set Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon, as well as the Starter Decks Kaiba and Yugi.
Konami of Europe partnered with AMIGO Spiel + Freizeit to utilise their print-shops and distribution channels.[1] AMIGO would also host Organised Play events on Konami's behalf, as they have done for other collectible card games such as Magic: The Gathering and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Early on, German cards featured the region tag "G" in their Card Numbers, but starting with the release of Ancient Sanctuary in 2004, the region tag was changed to "DE" and has remained so ever since.
Regarding localisation, the German-language product is based on the European English, later Worldwide English releases, including all edits done to card-art and text. As such "Dark Magician" is called "Dunkler Magier" and "Celtic Guardian" is called "Keltischer Wächter", both of them being direct translations. Though, because of some of the formatting choices made in the English product, and perhaps also because of a lack of communication in the very early days, a few errors slipped in, such as the first German printings of "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" (whose English name had the “Black” in its name contracted at first), being named "Rotäugiger blauer Drache" (lit. "Red-eyed blue Dragon") instead.
