Herald, known as Declarer (宣告者デクレアラー Dekurearā) in the OCG, is a series of LIGHT Fairy monsters used by Tsukiko Kuroda in the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Structures manga.

Lore

Design

Appearance

The Herald monsters resemble angelic machines with white spherical armor. The surface of their armor is covered in holes where beams of colored light emanate from. Their inner bodies are composed of crystals.

The series shares visual similarities with a variety of other Fairy monsters, such as the Counter Fairy series; the Majestic Mech series; and the "Parshath" archetype.

Members

Effect Monsters

The original three Main Deck Herald monsters are Level 2 Effect Monsters with 300 ATK and 500 DEF, each named after a different color. The colors of each Herald are based on the type of effects (Monster effect, Spell Card, or Trap Card) that their respective Quick Effects negate. In order to activate their effects, the monsters must be sent to the Graveyard from the hand, along with another Fairy monster.

"Diviner of the Herald" is a newer addition to the series and is the only Herald monster that resembles a human. Its 500 ATK and 300 DEF are reversed compared to the other Herald monsters.

Herald Negate target Color
Diviner - -
Green Light Spell Card Green
Orange Light Monster effect Orange
Purple Light Trap Card Purple

Extra Deck Monsters

The Extra Deck Herald monsters are newer additions with various effects that support the playing style of the series. There is a Herald monster for each type of monster that can be Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, except Fusion Monsters (and Pendulum Monsters).

All of the Extra Deck Herald monsters can be Special Summoned using two of the Main Deck Herald monsters as materials.

With the exception of "Herald of Mirage Lights" (which lacks DEF as a Link Monster), they all possess 600 ATK and 1000 DEF, which equal the combined totals of the ATK and DEF of two of the original three Herald monsters.

Herald Monster type Color
Mirage Lights Link Monster Red
Pure Light Xyz Monster Yellow
Arc Light Synchro Monster Rainbow

Ritual Monsters

The boss monsters of the Herald series are the Ritual Monsters. They boast higher stats and powerful negate effects compared to the other Herald monsters.

"Herald of Perfection" is a Level 6 Ritual Monster. Visually, it is a combination of the original three Herald monsters. Its effect is an improved combination of its components' effects that can be activated by using a single Fairy monster for its cost.

"Herald of Ultimateness is a Level 12 Ritual Monster. Visually, it is an upgraded form of "Herald of Perfection", and it further improves on "Perfection's" effect by including Special Summoning as an additional negate target.

Herald Visual components Ritual Spell
Perfection Herald of Green Light + Herald of Orange Light + Herald of Purple Light Dawn of the Herald
Ultimateness Herald of PerfectionGreen Light + Orange Light + Purple Light + Herald of Pure Light + Herald of the Arc Light Oracle of the Herald

Playing style

"Heralds" mainly focus on sending themselves and a Fairy monster to the Graveyard to negate an activation of an opponent's Spell, Trap or monster effect. "Herald of Perfection" allows you to send only 1 Fairy monster to negate all types of activation except for a Counter Trap Card.

Aforementioned "Diviner of the Herald" and "Zaborg the Mega Monarch" can be used to send "Elder Entity N'tss" or "Herald of the Arc Light" from the Extra Deck to the GY and trigger their effects.

Weaknesses

Cards that prevent Special Summoning will also keep "Herald" out of play, so "Vanity's Fiend" and "Vanity's Ruler" can shut down the "Herald" Duelist's plans. Better yet, "Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell" can shut out Ritual Summons permanently. If you negate "Advanced Ritual Art" or "Dawn of the Herald" once, your opponent won't be able to play them again. Cards that banish can also permanently shut down the effect of "Herald of Perfection".
