5D's manga's English names

Yo, I noticed you edit the 5D's manga articles as well, so I guess it doesn't hurt to explain. Yeah, the 4 names thing is true: between volumes 2, 4 and 5 Hawk Joe was called Hawk Joe the Jet Black, Blackhawk Joe, Hawk Joe and Obsidian Hawk Joe. Viz does that a lot with 5D's, so we decided to, in cases like that, choose the 1 name which we find the most proper translation and use it. By the way, Power Tool is another case like this (volume 4 = Power Tool Mecha Dragon, volume 5 = Machine Dragon Power Tool). LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talk • contribs) 23:20, November 5, 2013 (UTC)

RE:Wicked God/Evil God

Kyoji Yagumo

Yo, regarding your last edit in Yagumo's article. In Japanese, it's common to call a person you're not very close to by their last name (I myself call him "Yagumo", 'cuz I don't like that guy xD). However, here in the Wikia, we should always call the characters by their first names, which is how we do it in English. So, we should refer to Kyoji Yagumo as "Kyoji" rather than "Yagumo". ;) LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talk • contribs) 22:53, February 10, 2014 (UTC)

Yo, do you have Rank 36 of ZEXAL in English? I was completing Haruto's biography but I didn't understand 100% of what Yagumo said about him in this chapter (I'm still learning Japanese, I don't understand 100% of it :P). Viz is releasing ZEXAL chapters mothly in English in the Weekly Shonen Jump (English) since Rank 19. I've had access to them once, lost it, then got it back, so I've got a "hole" from Ranks 33 to 36. Scanlations

Yo. I just noticed, the title pages of the DM chapters you've been uploading, aren't those form scanlations (made by fans)? Because we kinda avoid to use scans from scanlations here. :P Even when all we had for 5D's were Chinese scanlations, we had to add images for the card without the text, so we ended up adding just the artwork. RE:Mosaic Manticore

Yeah, this is the old rules' fault. In DM and R, it seems that Fusion Monsters are not an individual card, but are instead just the union of its materials (this was made clear when Yako summoned Belial and Kaiba stated that since Manticore was made up of level 4 monsters it couldn't attack). Still, there's a difference between the kind of fusion regular fusion monsters go (like Arcana Knight Joker) and "union" fusion monsters go; with this I mean monsters like XYZ and Manticore, which don't use Polymerization. It seems that in the case of "union fusion", it's literally as if the material monsters just got one in the top of another. I honestly don't know how to handle this well, maybe we should discuss this with other admins. I was thinking about just explaining these old rules in the Fusion Monster or Yu-Gi-Oh! Oh, I see. I removed the "this card's materials are still treated as being on the field" part from Mosaic Manticore's effect, then. Although, I think you should specify that this only applies to the original manga and R, and not all manga. In GX and 5D's, fusion monsters work just like in the OCG/TCG. Haha, thanks. Thing is, the DM and R manga are pretty poor here in the Wikia, so, lots of work to do regarding those (mainly DM). I'm starting university soon as well, that's why I finished R's whole volume 5 today, since I'm all free. I wanted to help on DM too, but I'm already "in charge" of 5D's, ZEXAL and D Team ZEXAL, so I'll have to leave it for you guys. :P You can ask me any doubts/checkings though, I have scans of the whole manga (I noticed we have pretty messed up/lacking lores for manga effects of the cards, I'm having to fix/add a lotta effects for R). I was considering buying Viz's volumes of Duelist in September together with 5D's vol 6, but I'm not quite sure now. I like it better to read in English than in Portuguese, but I wanna see proper card effects and stuff, which the Brazilian edition do have, I must admit (also it doesn't divide the original manga in 3 parts for no logical reason). :/ LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talk • contribs) 23:56, March 1, 2014 (UTC)

I never watched the anime, I read the manga a long ago by borrowing a friend's volumes. I do plan on buying them though, my only doubt now is whether I should get the Brazilian edition or Viz's edition. I prefer reading in English, but if Viz's lores and stuff are too screwed, I'll opt for the Brazilian volumes, since I remember they had proper translations. General Discussion Questions

3. Which episode did Yami Marik say that he took away Marik's guilt?

4. I know that Marik can communicate with the people he used his Rod on, and that the Shadow Realm is just for the dub versions of the show, but Shadow Games (or Dark Games, as translated) are still played in the Japanese version. When Japanese Yami Marik duels the Pharaoh, it is still a "Dark Game" that will cause Marik or Yugi to go into the shadows. http://www.yu-jyo.net/003/138.shtml shows what actions and dialogue have been cut from the Japanese to English version of Episode 138, and the Japanese Yami Marik also said their hosts will be lost to the shadows after losing life points (even if the shadows will kill them in the Japanese version instead of being like hell). So why didn't this part of Marik that faded away immediately go into the shadows/darkness/whatever instead of going to Odion first? I can understand that him fading from Odion is most likely due to losing the strength to remain there and talk, but the Japanese version, even without the Realm, supposedly would have the souls go right to the shadows after fading away in this Game.

5. Yeah, they wouldn't really look behind him; I did say everyone was way more interested in the duel, but they did look at each other occasionally when talking about Joey's chance of winning, so they could've seen at the corner of their eye Marik, behind the rest of them, having his arm weirdly continually behind his back (although that is really slim). In the anime after Joey and Odion were chosen by that dragon machine, with Marik not having the Rod at all during this, how could Marik go back to his room to get the real Rod and then go with the gang to watch the duel in time without looking suspicious? And although going back to his room wouldn't take long, it would still seem a little weird, since what would he need in there? All the necessary food and water was in the middle of the blimp, not their rooms. But everyone else was way more interested in watching Joey duel the supposed "Marik" to notice something like this or the real Marik having his arm in a strange position.

I see this more as a manga plot flaw; anime doesn't always follow the manga, like making the virtual world arc that isn't in the comics. We know that Odion was given a fake Rod in the anime and that Marik still has the real one, using it to talk to him while dueling with Joey. Odion, wearing that huge dark cloak, is most likely hiding both Rods in there until he and Marik get on the blimp and in their rooms, thus being able to give Marik the real one. But in the manga, with Odion often being seen with a Rod, and without a fake one being mentioned, it is most likely the real one with him in the comic, and then would have to be taken by Yami Marik after he collapsed into a coma. I can completely understand Marik hiding his Rod inside his clothes; I figured that was what he occasionally did. However, from the time he was shown sitting next to Odion and Kaiba hearing him talking, thus turning on the lights, to the time that he was seen watching the dragon machine choose Odion and Joey to duel, it didn't look like any of his clothes had something in them. In a scene of the gang, close to the end of part 3, wondering why Odion hadn't finished attacking with the Mystical Beast, after he ordered Odion to attack with the fake Ra, he had his right arm next to his right leg without the Rod instead of behind him with it, and I wondered if this was an error. There was the possibility he had put it in his pants' pocket, since he had his hand on his pants' huge pocket that is probably big enough to hold the Rod (although the left hand instead of the right, with which he had held his Rod behind him), but in the first scene of him in the duel during part 4, it was back hidden behind him in his right hand; also in this scene, his left hand is still on his left pant leg, so most likely an error for this time of possibly being hidden behind his clothes. However, since the pockets are abnormally big for pants, I guess that he could have hidden the Rod in the right leg pocket instead of going to his room to get it before the duel, even though I said above it didn't look like he had anything actually in his pants.Mistystar31 (talk contribs) 05:10, June 18, 2014 (UTC)

Having fusion summoning at all in the shows means NOTHING since it's a mechanic that's been around since the original Yugioh. Just cuz 5Ds has fusion summoning doesn't mean it can't be the synchro dimension, same for Zexal and the Xyz dimension. 15:19, May 10, 2015 (UTC)

Are Shadow Games inside the Shadow Realm?

Are the Shadow Games, which are in tiny spheres of shadows and darkness, such as during the Battle City tournament, in a tiny part of the whole Shadow Realm? For example, in the finale of Season 3, when Yami Yugi dueled Yami Marik in a Shadow Game, is the duel of their Shadow Game inside the Shadow Realm (although the loser of their game would go to the entire Realm)? Are the dark purple/blue/black spheres of darkness of the Shadow Games in which characters duel also a small part where the entire Shadow Realm is inside?

Despite the Shadow Realm being for English, mainly American, kids instead of having them die after 24 hours, like Mai, such as in the Japanese original version, I just need to know the answer to this question for a story.Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 03:16, June 10, 2015 (UTC)

Strong Spirits/Souls

As you said, Joey has a strong spirit/soul since he was able to break free from Marik's mind-control with the Rod. What other characters would you also consider (at least usually) to have a strong spirit?

I would think Odion, since despite his horrible physical condition, hardly able to walk, he headed into the Battle City tower to save Marik, even though Yami Marik slammed him against the tower to try to stop him from talking. Yugi at first appeared to be a scared boy, but after meeting Yami Yugi, he became much more courageous after time, and was willing to both be the duelist fighting brainwashed Joey and save him by purposely losing that duel, and also was willing to sacrifice himself and deal with the pain of losing his body during the Battle City final for Yami Yugi, both when the Pharaoh lost and needed to give up Life Points, in order to win. Yami Yugi does as well seem to have a strong soul, always willing to try to risk things in mainly magical games, mostly Shadow Games of Duel Monsters, even when he has a major disadvantage to win, especially when it is to help people, like his promise to Ishizu to save regular, good Marik, or free Joey from his dog suit and didn't even know all the rules of non-magical Dungeon Dice Monsters. Kaiba appears to have a great spirit with his annoyingly usually grumpy attitude, never willing to give up, like Yami Yugi. Yami Marik seems to have one as well. Do you think Marik has a strong spirit, since (although with Odion's help and the Pharaoh's attack) he was able to retake control of his body? Do you think Ishizu has a great spirit, such as because she was going to, if Kaiba hadn't changed his destiny, eventually duel her brother? I wouldn't think of Tea or Mokuba as strong-spirited, since Tea couldn't get out of the Rod's mind-control, although it did take Joey some time, and although Mokuba was able to escape with Tea's help from the Rare Hunters and return to Kaiba, he doesn't seem like it except in rare, tiny parts like that to have a strong soul; I wouldn't say Serenity either, even after having full sight, except in tiny times like Mokuba, like when she dived into the sea to save Joey from drowning. I don't know about Tristan or Duke, but probably Mai.

Which characters do you think have an excellent spirit besides Joey? Odion, Yami Yugi, Yugi, Yami Marik, Marik, Kaiba, possibly Ishizu and Mai, and any other ones I haven't written? Even possibly Tea, Mokuba, and Serenity? Just wondering your opinion for my story; I would like your truth, so if any I have mentioned aren't who you think are powerful in their souls/spirits, don't feel like you have to post them.Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 03:45, August 19, 2015 (UTC)

So besides Joey, you're mostly agreeing with me, in Odion, Yami Yugi, Kaiba, and Yami Marik of course being strong-spirited. And then of course the weak ones, like Tea and Serenity and perhaps Duke.

So possibly Ishizu, and Marik, since he does seem to get stronger after Battle City with Odion's encouragement, and when he is able to retake control of his body during Odion's help, and also when he accepts his destiny by showing the hieroglyphics on his back; for most of his life, he hated being a tomb-keeper, so it's amazing he had the strength to reveal the scriptures on his back and finally accept his life's purpose. Both siblings having Millennium Items does seem to make them more "powerful", although whether that helps their souls be more powerful because they are holders of Millennium Items instead of regular people, instead of just giving them the powers of seeing both the past and future and mind-control... And when they give their items to Yami Yugi, would you still consider their souls strong, even without the items, since they still were Millennium Item holders? I would think Marik does become strong enough to qualify just because of his actions in the finale of Battle City, willing to sacrifice himself for Yami Yugi to win, at least most likely after Battle City with Odion's support, and maybe beforehand in the duel against his other half with the Millennium Ring's spirit, since he was willing to face his alter ego, but needed a body and relied on Yami Bakura; although he couldn't exactly do it "face-to-face", with Yami Marik in control of his own body and just being a spirit "supporter" next to Yami Bakura, he still "did", just with a different body to take refuge in. I forgot about the Virtual World arc; Mokuba does seem strong there. Tristan is strong-willed, as we see in escaping from the Rare Hunters, holding Serenity on his back, so yeah, I would agree. And yes to Mai, especially in duels, willing to try to summon Ra.

However, there are two other characters I was wondering about--regular Yugi and Yami Bakura. For regular Bakura, I would say he is weak, like in one of the later arcs, he freaks out when he hears Yami Bakura's voice and runs around; however, I would definitely say Yami Bakura is strong in spirit, even before transforming into that monster that he is combined with.

Is regular Yugi like Marik, getting more strong-willed/spirited with making new friends and their support, kind of like the encouragement Marik gets from Odion, and willing to sacrifice himself for them, like Marik telling everyone through Tea that in order to save mankind, he must be sacrificed in the Battle City finale, just like Yugi purposely losing to let Joey live in the brainwashed duel at the docks or letting Yami Yugi sacrifice Life Points for certain moves and know he'll lose parts of his body in the Battle City final Shadow Game?Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 19:33, August 19, 2015 (UTC)

Two Cards

In episode 139, the 2nd part of Yami Yugi--Yami Marik's duel, in a close-up of Marik's hand when he takes Monster Reborn from the graveyard, 2 other cards are seen, different from the Japanese cards in his hand. One is "Fiend's Sanctuary", but what is the other? From what can be seen, it's a trap card with a picture of a bunch of gravestones. I know he doesn't use it, but that's not "Call of the Haunted". It doesn't have any fog, and from what you can see, there's a big tombstone in the middle, a much smaller one in the upper left, and a cross tombstone in the upper right. Soul vs Spirit

In my previous General Discussion page, with how the mind could be dominated independently and the soul could possibly be moved from the mind, you mentioned how Joey's spirit as a duelist allowed him to fight back against Marik dominating his mind with the Rod. So for more info about the spirit and soul, when you stated "spirit as a duelist", did you also mean "soul of a duelist", since soul and spirit can be synonyms, or did you mean "Joey's purpose/essence let him fight back"?Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 03:55, November 4, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah. What I do is I download certain episodes onto my phone, but since my phone only has so much space I only download certain ones. Gap episodes like that and episode 95 I tend to skip downloading. High Priest of Darkness VS High Priest of Shadows

Do you have Volume 6 and/or 7 of Millennium World? Akhenaden is called the "High Priest of Darkness" in Volume 5. I think that might have been changed to "High Priest of Shadows" in the later volumes. Are you able to confirm? -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:45, April 6, 2016 (UTC)

"High Priest of Darkness" is the Japanese translation. I like how the manga let's us use the original names, but I think the standard is, like with the cards, we usually use the most recent name. Phantom Synchro

I'll be honest with you here, your message system is kind of screwed up. It took me so long to find a way to reply. Apparently I replied via email but it went to the wrong person(s). My name is Ace (through my gmail) and I had talked about the Phantom Synchro page. Anyway, so here's my confusion; using material from the graveyard to Synchro Summon is different than using material for a Synchro Summon that's already in the cemetery. I must've confused the two. Well here's my other question, is the same mechanism possible for a Phantom Xyz monster. Where you use material in the graveyard for an Xyz Summon, like what Vector did in episode 131. Even though he used material to summon a new Xyz monster, it's not the same. So basically all three of the monsters would have to be in the cemetery, right. Well, in that case(Certain cards being more overpowered than Chaos Emperor Dragon), what card can work as a substitute for CED? The reason why I have been talking about him these past few days is because I figured out a One Turn Kill for a Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon Deck. The reason why Chaos Emperor Dragon is involved is because of his effect.

He not only the field, but also empties both player's hands, AND deals damage for each card sent to the Graveyard, enough so that a direct attack from REDD will wipe out the rest of their Life Points. Again, for this to work, you need to activate his effect while you control Meteor Black Comet Dragon and Black Metal Dragon. MBCD's effect will let you summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon from your Graveyard, and BMD will add Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon to your hand.

"Duel" is always capitalized on this wiki, as per the Yu-Gi-Oh!:Manual of style.

Yugi KNEW about Exodia. After all, he recalls Solomon telling him about it later in the episode. What he didn't realize was that the cards were Exodia pieces.

Given the implication of your assumption, if skipping the Main Phase prevented entering the Battle Phase and thus the Main Phase 2, the card would just say "end the turn" for simplicity's sake. But no, you merely have to go right to the Battle Phase, which you can enter even if you can't or don't want to attack. Otherwise Grand Horn of Heaven would have seen more play. COULD being the key word here. Magic Cylinder can deal with a single monster. Mirror Force can stop multiple monsters.
