Julian was Rafael's brother, who was killed by a tidal wave along with Sonia and their parents while on a cruise ship piloted by Dartz.
Background
However, Rafael survived but sad that they died. After his second Duel with Yami Yugi, he appears again when his "Guardians" and his family appear again. After The Great Leviathan was destroyed, he appeared again saying that he will always be in his heart with his sister and parents.
