Appearance

Full-body view of Diggs

Diggs is a tan-skinned young boy with dark blue eyes and black hair that curls into spikes at the ends, including a short ponytail. Appropriately for his passion, he wears a white lab coat over a yellow shirt and dark pants tucked into dark wellington boots, in addition to red goggles that he keeps on his forehead and a green bandanna tied around his right bicep with a dinosaur face print on it.

In his youth, Diggs wore teal overalls and black boots over a yellow shirt, his ponytail was smaller, and he wore white gloves to handle fossils carefully.

Personality

Diggs is described as scholarly and full of romanticism, and is stated to seek to understand the relationships between dinosaurs and Dueling.[2] Diggs is generally polite and well-spoken, and passionate regarding his enthusiasm for dinosaurs. He is not above attempting to use dinosaurs for profit, but he turns his back on this philosophy after Yuga Ohdo tells him that his adventurous spirit is genuine.

Diggs tends to use the word "Jurassic" in sentences. He tends to speak poetically and dramatically about the history of dinosaurs when he Duels, likening his moves to natural processes.

Etymology

Professor Diggs's full Japanese name read as one word (Hakubutsukan) is the Japanese word for "museum".

Biography

History

Diggs's first fossil was a coprolite, which his grandfather told him to put to his ear. Diggs heard the sound of a dinosaur defecating, which he and his grandfather agreed was truly Jurassic.[3]

Birth of Rush Duels

After hearing about the appearance of Gossie in a construction site in Goha City, Diggs, Tracker and Trench decided to search for it and use it to create their own Jurassic Duel World, believing it to be a Rush Duel Dinosaur. After stopping at the Ramen Hut, they encountered Yuga Ohdo, Lucidien "Luke" Kallister, Romin Kassidy and Gavin Sogetsu, who were also looking for Gossie using Yuga's modified Goha Enterprises Drone Kaizo. Trench introduced the Duel Dinosaur Club to Yuga and his friends and suggested that they work together to find Gossie, though in reality they planned to use Yuga and his friends to find Gossie and then find it first themselves. After several fruitless stops, Yuga's friends finally determined that Gossie could be at the location of the Relic where Yuga had installed Rush Dueling, though Luke left them before they headed to it. Diggs, Tracker and Trench reconvened in a bathroom to discuss their plans, unaware that Luke was in the same bathroom, and he confronted them and revealed their plans to Yuga, Gavin and Romin. Despite the group's treachery, Yuga was still willing to tell them where the Relic was if Diggs could defeat him in a Rush Duel.[3]

Diggs started by swiftly assembling resources with "Strange Seas", though Yuga was able to gain an early lead. Diggs made a comeback with his Dinosaurs, summoning two "Megazowler" and his "Super King Rex" and reducing Yuga to 800 LP. But as he and his friends celebrated, Yuga stated that he didn't believe Diggs to be someone who would exploit dinosaurs. Diggs thought on the idea, clutching the coprolite in his pocket and he wondered if his dreams had been tainted, though Yuga reassured him they hadn't. Trench and Tracker happily agreed, and suggested they check the construction site where Gossie was rumored to have first appeared. Yuga abruptly tried to stop them from looking for Gossie, though Luke eagerly joined forces with the Duel Dinosaur Club. Yuga Summoned his own ace monster, "Sevens Road Magician", so Diggs increased the ATK of "Super King Rex" to protect it with "Ascending Evolution". Yuga instead tried destroying Diggs's high-Level Dinosaurs with "Full Meteor Impact", though "Super King Rex" survived due to "Ascending Evolution". Diggs believed he'd won, but Yuga was able to fill his Graveyard with all six Attributes and reduce the ATK of "Super King Rex", defeating Diggs. Despite Diggs's defeat, the group decided to check the construction site anyway, only to learn that "Gossie" had been nothing more than heating pipes and a noise produced by one of Yuga's "Roads", much to Diggs's dismay. To make it up to them, Yuga brought the Duel Dinosaur Club to where the Relic had been, and Tracker sneezed, uncovering seven previously unseen symbols carved in the floor.[3] Yuga had Diggs and his friends help him analyze the symbols, and they deduced from them overlapping that they formed the logo of Big Seven Arena. Yuga theorized that the Relic would appear there on the next full moon, and he was invited to the location for a RoaRomin concert.[4]

The Relic appeared at the Big Seven Arena as Yuga had predicted, during his Duel with Roa Kassidy, and Diggs, Trench and Tracker immediately entered the room to examine the Relic, though they retreated into the audience when it began to project Otes. Otes explained he had chosen Yuga to become the King of Duels at the 666th Goha Dueling Tournament and cleared up the legality of "Sevens Road Magician", which he had given to Yuga at the event and whose legality had been in question due to Roa's actions. Yuga and Roa continued their Duel with the right to the title on the line, and Roa pushed Yuga into a corner; Diggs noting the situation that Yuga was in. To Diggs's joy, Yuga was able to defeat Roa, and the Relic retreated into the ground after the Duel.[4]

Maximum

Some time after Yuga and Roa's Duel, Diggs received a penalty on his Duel Disk while he was at a dig with Trench and Tracker.[5] They went to the Road Laboratory, where Yuga explained that they and all his other friends had been penalized due to his challenge by Goha Duel Overseer Nail Saionji to retrieve the data of Kaizo, and if anyone in Yuga's group of friends lost a Duel, they would all be penalized and their accounts deleted if they received six penalties. The penalty had occurred when Mimi Imimi was defeated by her son Yosh, as Mimi had inadvertently become considered one of Yuga's friends. Despite the circumstances, everyone present agreed to help Yuga, given that all of their accounts were on the line, but then Yuga, Luke and Gavin were dropped into a pit leading to the Garden of Curiosity, with Romin and Saburamen also falling in.[6]

Diggs later received four more penalties on his Duel Disk.[7] Diggs was at a dig with Trench and Tracker when they watched Yuga and Nail's Maximum Monsters, "Supreme Machine Magnum Overlord" and "Yggdrago the Sky Emperor" battling over their Duel Disk, calling the clash an earth-shattering Jurassic. After being forced to return his Maximum to his Deck, Yuga was pushed into a corner and reminded of the stakes of the match, which reminded Diggs that his account would be deleted if Yuga lost the Rush Duel due to his five penalties. He was overjoyed when Yuga was able to re-Maximum Summon "Magnum Overlord" again and when Yuga defeated Nail, who erased the penalties on Diggs's Duel Disk after the Rush Duel.[8]

Goha #6 Elementary

Diggs, Trench and Tracker came to the Rush Duel Training Camp with Saburamen, Sushiko, Briscoe, and the Dueling Insects Club from Goha #5 Elementary. That night Yuga told them about his encounter with Asana Mutsuba, who Diggs deduced was likely from Goha #6 Elementary's Heavy Cavalry Duel Club, and Trench and Tracker told Yuga, Luke and Gavin about their previous issues with them. They were then interrupted by Romin and Sushiko fighting over the remote, and Diggs, Trench and Tracker wisely sidled away until the matter was over, but they returned when Briscoe had finished cooking.[9]

Team Battle Royal

After the Rush Duel Training Camp, Tracker wound up mixed up in the battles between Goha #7 Elementary and the Heavy Cavalry Duel Club and he learned about Maximum Mountain, a mine owned by the Mutsuba family containing prototype Duel Disks whose Duel ID cards could be converted into Maximum Monsters. Diggs and Trench helped Tracker sell the Maximum Monsters to other children, though they only ever sold one at a time to prevent other children from obtaining a full Maximum. As a result, Tracker became far more wealthy and he bought new research and excavation equipment for Diggs and Trench, rising higher than them in social standing.[10] Diggs, Tracker and Trench entered the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal as Team Treasure Trackers and due to their Maximums they quickly rose to third in the competition.[10][11]

Diggs, Tracker and Trench visited the Ramen Hut where the six members of the first and second-ranked teams, Yuga, Roa, Nail, Luke, Romin and Gavin were breaking and Tracker challenged Yuga to a Duel as they weren't confident they would be able to defeat Nail's own Maximum and weren't as experienced with Roa's Deck. Diggs and Trench bore Tracker on a golden throne during the Duel until Tracker Maximum Summoned "Dynamic Dino Dynamix" and failed to defeat Yuga. Intimidated by Luke's fury over Tracker having a Maximum, Diggs and Trench broke down and confessed what they had done to Yuga and his friends, much to Tracker's disgust. To Diggs's surprise, Yuga revealed that he had obtained a Maximum of his own from two cards he'd collected from Tracker's sales and one that Asana had given him, and he Maximum Summoned and defeated Tracker with "Hyper Engine Vast Vulcan". After the Duel Diggs, Tracker and Trench apologized for their actions and when they were asked whether money or Dueling was more important, Diggs and Trench joyfully declared that Dueling was, drowning out Tracker's statement that money still was. Luke then tried to confiscate their Maximums, but Diggs admitted that they'd sold them all and Tracker revealed the deal that he'd made with Goha 66.[10]

Despite their efforts, Diggs, Tracker and Trench failed to place in the tournament, so they attended the finals of the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal on the third day, watching Romin's victory against Roa and Gavin's Duel against Nail, where Diggs was shocked by Gavin's new "DJ G" persona. Faced with "Yggdrago the Sky Emperor", Gavin eventually returned to his normal persona after a power outage in the stadium and forced a DRAW, leaving Yuga and Luke to have a final Duel.[12][13]

Diggs watched Yuga and Luke's Rush Duel, where the power in the stadium began to fail again, revealed to be due to the Goha Duel Server being hacked, and Diggs witnessed the revelation of the Goha Duel Server on the moon and the Rush Duel Program contained within, under attack by Goha Enterprises Drones that were uninstalling it and had been all tournament.[14] Despite knowing their Duel would complete the uninstallation, Yuga and Luke continued to Duel, Diggs and his friends shocked by the crowd's support for their Duel. Diggs applauded when Luke eventually won, resulting in the uninstallation of Rush Dueling, but Yuga and Nail were able to reinstall the program and install it in the Super Rush Robot to protect it from another attack. Diggs then watched Luke's coronation as King of Duels.[15]

Goha 6 Siblings

The true Goha Presidents, the Goha Six, returned to Earth, evicted the current president, Mimi Imimi, and challenged Yuga and his friends to Rush Duels with the Super Rush Robot held hostage by Forcersizers that would shake it apart unless Yuga defeated the six siblings.[16] Diggs was in Goha City one night with Trench, Tracker, Saburamen, Sushiko, Briscoe and the Duelstronauts when he watched the Rush Duel between Yuga and The Lukeman, including Yuo Goha's rage after he believed Yuga and The Lukeman weren't taking the Duel seriously. To Diggs's shock a meteor entered the atmosphere and plunged towards Yuga, having been dragged in by the Goha Meteor Shower, and Yuga blocked the meteor with his Duel Disk, acquiring the "Fusion" card contained within it and using it to defeat The Lukeman, saving the Super Rush Robot.[17]

Goha Employee

Diggs and Trench had an argument with Tracker, putting the Duel Dinosaur Club on the verge of disbandment.[18]

Deck

Diggs uses a Jurassic Deck, composed of WATER Attribute Aqua Type monsters based on prehistoric sea creatures and EARTH Attribute Dinosaur Type monsters. Diggs's strategy references the evolution of life on Earth; he begins by using his Aqua Type monsters to swiftly assemble resources and defenses, then moves onto using his Dinosaurs, which are his more powerful monsters, including his ace monster, "Super King Rex". Once he Summons "Super King Rex", Diggs centers his moves around increasing its ATK and protecting it from his opponent's cards.
