OCG Rulings

[Regarding "Must be Synchro Summoned"][1]

  • It is not treated as an effect.
  • As a general rule, this card can only be Special Summoned by a Synchro Summon. However, as long as it is with an effect that Special Summons by ignoring the Summoning conditions, this card can be Special Summoned by ignoring this text.

[Regarding the effect "(Quick Effect): You can target 1 monster on the field Special Summoned from the Extra Deck; banish it. This effect can be used a number of times per turn up to the number of non-Tuner Synchro Monsters used as Synchro Material for this card."][1]

  • It is a Quick Effect that can be activated in the Monster Zone.
  • It can be activated multiple times in the same Chain.
  • It cannot be activated during the Damage Step.

[Regarding the effect "Once per turn, if a monster(s) is banished face-up (except during the Damage Step): You can target 1 of them; Special Summon it to your field, ignoring its Summoning conditions."][1]

  • It is a Trigger Effect that can be activated in the Monster Zone.
  • It cannot be activated during the Damage Step.

Q&A Rulings

  • Q: What monsters can be Special Summoned by the effect of "T.G. Glaive Blaster" that Special Summons by ignoring the Summoning conditions?
A: The effect that Special Summons by ignoring the Summoning conditions can Special Summon monsters that have a Special Summoning condition listed in its text, in addition to monsters without Special Summoning conditions. (Even if a monster's text restricts the way it can be Special Summoned, you can Special Summon it by ignoring that text.)

More specifically, you can ignore the following texts.
● Text that restricts the Special Summon (such as "Cannot be Special Summoned" of Spirit monsters)
● Text that specifies a way to Special Summon (such as the conditions/procedures to Special Summon a Special Summon Monster)
● Text that restricts the way to Special Summon (such as "Must be ... Summoned" of Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, or Link Monsters)

You can only ignore the Special Summoning conditions listed on the monster, and nothing else. The following are examples of situations in which a Special Summon cannot be performed even if the effect Special Summons by ignoring the Summoning conditions.
● During the turn you activate "Scapegoat", or while the effect of your opponent's "Vanity's Ruler" is being applied, you cannot Special Summon a monster even if the effect Special Summons by ignoring the Summoning conditions. This is because the monster's text is not the reason you cannot Special Summon it.
● The text "You can only Special Summon ... once per turn" that restricts the number of Special Summons a player can perform is not a Summoning condition. You must follow that text even if you Special Summon the monster by ignoring the Summoning conditions, and you cannot Special Summon the monster more than the listed number of times.
● A banished monster that has not been properly Summoned, such as a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Monster that was banished from the Extra Deck, cannot be Special Summoned even if the effect Special Summons by ignoring the Summoning conditions. This is because the monster cannot be Special Summoned due to the rules of Special Summon Monsters, not because of that monster's text.[2]
