- This card, or some form of altered version of its artwork, appears in the artwork of "Anti-Fusion Device", "Double Fusion", "Fusion Destruction", "Fusion Recovery", "Hope for the Future", "Instant Fusion", "Mixeroid", and "Revoke Fusion".
- This card's artwork background appears as the background for "Fossil Fusion".
- This card has a Rush Duel counterpart with a similar artwork: "Fusion".
- "Synchro Fusionist" is based on the molten form of the monster in the right part of this card's artwork.
- This card's TCG name is based on the process of polymerization in chemistry, in which two or more molecular units can be fused into large chains of units called polymers, reflecting this card's effect of fusing two or more monster to form a Fusion Monster.
- This card and "Dark Magician" are the only cards to have different passwords for alternate artwork.
- The alternate art was used in the international dubbing of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime.
- There is an original art "Polymerization" card with altered artwork in the center of the two monsters moving towards it, referencing how the card works.
- The alternate artwork of this card is the only card to feature an image of itself in its own artwork (The "Polymerization" card fusing the monsters together).
- Despite the alternate artwork being edited, the "Polymerization" card in the alternate artwork was left untranslated.
- This is one of the first Spell Cards seen on-screen in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, along with "Block Attack", "Mooyan Curry", "Red Medicine", and "Remove Trap".
- This card has the most errata of any card in the OCG, with eight different erratas.
- This card is one of the few cards whose errata made the text longer. The new, lengthened, text explains exactly what to do for a Fusion Summon, while the original text explained what was happening during a Fusion Summon, but did not explain how to conduct one.
- Prior to Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, this was one of three cards to have appeared in every Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series and film, the others being "Mystical Space Typhoon" and "Mirror Force". Out of those three cards, this is the only card to have been played in all of them.
- In the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime, the pronunciation of this card's Japanese name (ゆうごう Yūgō) serves as the basis for Yugo being mistaken as an ally of the Fusion Dimension.
