Summary
Summary
In the cave, Yugi and the group have no way of removing the boulder blocking the entrance. Suddenly, Bakura's Millennium Ring starts to point, presumably towards Pegasus's Millennium Eye.
+
In the the Duel, Yugi and Joey bring out their strongest monsters, but the Paradox Brothers use "Magical Labyrinth" to change the shape of the maze and separate their monsters. The Paradox Brothers manage to draw all three pieces of "Gate Guardian" ("Kazejin", "Suijin" and "Sanga of the Thunder"), their most powerful monster.

Following where the ring points, they end up at a large Dueling Arena, where the Paradox Brothers appear. They say that Yugi and a partner from his group have to face them in a tag-team Duel. If they win, they will have to choose one of the two doors the brothers guard. One door leads them out of the Paradox Brothers' dungeon, while the other leads to a even larger maze that is impossible to get out of. Yugi and Joey agree to the conditions, betting six Star Chips between them, enough to gain them entrance to Pegasus Castle if they win. The rules are as follows: all four players start with 2000 Life Points each, and will move in turn, alternating between teams. However, if just one Duelist loses, his partner will also lose.
+
Meanwhile, as Seto Kaiba approaches Pegasus's castle, he is confronted by Kemo, but Kaiba overpowers him and takes him hostage, demanding that he take him to Mokuba. Kemo takes Kaiba through Pegasus' underground prison, but activates an alarm, forcing Kaiba to flee and find Mokuba himself.

Dox summons "Labyrinth Wall", which changes the Duel Arena into a maze.

Joey Wheeler has 2000 LP remaining, and controls "Axe Raider" (2200/1150) in Attack Position equipped with "Kunai with Chain" and no Set cards.<br />
 +
Para has 1700 LP remaining, and controls no monsters or Set cards.<br />
 +
Dox has 2000 LP remaining, and controls "Labyrinth Tank" (2400/2400) in Attack Position, "Labyrinth Wall" and 1 Set card ("Jirai Gumo").
 +

 +
<u>Turn 8: Joey</u><br />
 +
Joey draws "Flame Swordsman" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1800/1600) in Attack Position. Since "Flame Swordsman" is a Level 5 monster, Joey can move it up to 5 spaces, but he chooses to move it only 4 spaces inside the maze, arriving at the same space as "Celtic Guardian". He then moves "Axe Raider" inside the maze. Since it is a Level 4 monster, he moves it by 4 spaces. It joins "Flame Swordsman" and "Celtic Guardian".
 +

 +
<u>Turn 9: Dox</u><br />
 +
Dox draws. He then moves "Labyrinth Tank" another 7 spaces.
 +

 +
<u>Turn 10: Yami Yugi</u><br />
 +
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Dark Magician" (2500/2100) in Attack Position. Since it is a Level 7 monster, Yugi can move it up to 7 spaces, but he chooses to move it only 5 spaces inside the maze, in front of "Celtic Guardian" and Joey's monsters.
 +

 +
<u>Turn 11: Para</u><br />
 +
Para draws "Magical Labyrinth" and subsequently activates it to change the shape of "Labyrinth Wall" maze. "Flame Swordsman" and "Axe Raider" are separated from "Celtic Guardian" and "Dark Magician".
 +

 +
<u>Turn 12: Joey</u><br />
 +
Joey draws. He then moves "Flame Swordsman" and "Axe Raider" ahead, but "Axe Raider" steps on the space of ""Jirai Gumo", causing it to appear on the field in Attack Position (2100/1000) and attack "Axe Raider". Due to the effect of "Jirai Gumo", the ATK of "Axe Raider" becomes its original ATK during the Damage Step ("Axe Raider": 2200 → 1700/1150). "Jirai Gumo" destroys "Axe Raider" (Joey: 2000 → 1600 LP).
 +

 +
<u>Turn 13: Dox</u><br />
 +
Dox draws. He then moves "Labyrinth Tank" another 7 spaces, arriving right behind "Jirai Gumo". He then Sets "Dungeon Worm".

During the Duel, Para and Dox say that from now on, one brother will speak only the truth and the other will speak only lies; they also offer Joey and Yugi the option to each ask one question. Joey is excited about this prospect, having heard a similar riddle before, and asks his question right away. Yugi, however, immediately recognizes the liar paradox here, and waits to ask his question until later. This is also known as the Knights and Knaves fork in the road paradox.
+
<u>Turn 14: Yami Yugi</u><br />
 +
Yugi draws "Mystic Box" and subsequently activates it to force "Jirai Gumo" and "Dark Magician" to swap locations and destroy "Jirai Gumo". "Dark Magician" attacks and destroys "Labyrinth Tank" (Dox: 2000 → 1900 LP).

Meanwhile, Mokuba, trapped in Pegasus's underground prison, is thinking about Seto Kaiba and what happened to them when they were younger. Kaiba, on the other hand, is outside, approaching Pegasus's castle.
+
<u>Turn 15: Para</u><br />
 +
Para draws "Sanga of the Thunder" and subsequently Sets it.

+
Joey draws. He then moves "Flame Swordsman" five spaces.

+
<u>Turn 17: Dox</u><br />
 +
Dox draws "Suijin" and subsequently Sets it. He then Flip Summons "Dungeon Worm" (1800/1500) to Attack Position. He then activates "Invigoration" and equips it to "Dungeon Worm", increasing the latter's ATK by 400 and decreasing its DEF by 200 ("Dungeon Worm": 1800 → 2200/1500 → 1300). Since it's a burrower, "Dungeon Worm" is able to move freely under the maze, bypassing the spaces and attacking any monster. "Dungeon Worm" attacks and destroys "Celtic Guardian" (Yugi: 1600 → 800 LP). "Dungeon Worm" then retreats underground.

<u>Turn 1: Dox</u><br />
+
<u>Turn 18: Yami Yugi</u><br />
Dox Normal Summons "Labyrinth Wall" (0/3000). During this Duel and exclusively in the anime, "Labyrinth Wall" acts like a Field Magic Card in addition to a monster. Once activated, "Labyrinth Wall" creates a 9×9 maze on the Dueling Arena that each player's monster must go through before they can reach the other side. Monsters can move a number of spaces equivalent to their Level. Monsters can attack each other inside the maze, but must be on tiles adjacent to one another.
+
Yugi draws. He then activates "Magical Hats", hiding "Dark Magician" and "Flame Swordsman" under two of four "Hats".

<u>Turn 2: Yami Yugi</u><br />
+
<u>Turn 19: Para</u><br />
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Beaver Warrior" (1200/1500) in Attack Position. Since it's a Level 4 monster, Yugi moves it 4 spaces inside the maze.
+
Para draws. He then Normal Summons "Monster Tamer" (1800/1600) in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "Monster Tamer", Para can take control of Dox's "Dungeon Worm" and increase its ATK by 600 ("Dungeon Worm": 2200 → 2800/1300). "Dungeon Worm" attacks and destroys a "Hat", which is revealed to be empty. "Dungeon Worm" then retreats underground.

<u>Turn 3: Para</u><br />
+
<u>Turn 20: Joey</u><br />
Para draws. He then activates "Polymerization" to fuse "Shadow Ghoul" into "Labyrinth Wall" and Special Summon "Wall Shadow" (1600/3000) in Attack Position. "Wall Shadow" can travel through the walls of the maze instead of actual spaces, allowing it to strike any monster that is inside the labyrinth instantaneously. "Wall Shadow" attacks and destroys "Beaver Warrior" (Yugi: 2000 → 1600 LP).
+
Joey draws. He then releases his "Flame Swordsman" from the "Hat" it was under. He then activates "Salamandra" and equips it to "Flame Swordsman", increasing the latter's ATK by 700 ("Flame Swordsman": 1800 → 2500/1600). "Flame Swordsman" attacks "Dungeon Worm". The Salamandra attack steers itself into the destroyed hat and down the tunnels, allowing "Flame Swordsman" to attack without moving and strike an underground monster. Also, since "Dungeon Worm" is weak against FIRE-Attribute monsters, it loses the ATK bonus from "Monster Tamer" ("Dungeon Worm": 2800 → 2200/1300). "Flame Swordsman" destroys "Dungeon Worm" (Dox: 1900 → 1600 LP).

<u>Turn 4: Joey</u><br />
+
<u>Turn 21: Dox</u><br />
Joey draws. He then Normal Summons "Axe Raider" (1700/1150) in Attack Position and Sets a card.
+
Dox draws "Kazejin" and subsequently Normal Summons it (2400/2200) in Attack Position. He then Flip Summons "Suijin" (2500/2400) and "Sanga of the Thunder" (2600/2200) and combines them with "Kazejin" in order to form "Gate Guardian" in Attack Position.

<u>Turn 5: Dox</u><br />
+
<u>Turn 22: Yami Yugi</u><br />
Dox draws. He then Sets "Jirai Gumo" on a space in the maze and Normal Summons "Labyrinth Tank" (2400/2400) in Attack Position. Since it's a Level 7 monster, Dox moves it 7 spaces inside the maze.
+
Yugi draws. He then Sets two cards.

<u>Turn 6: Yami Yugi</u><br />
+
<u>Turn 23: Para</u><br />
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Celtic Guardian" (1400/1200) in Attack Position. Since it's a Level 4 monster, he moves it 4 spaces inside the maze.
+
"Sanga of the Thunder" attacks "Flame Swordsman".

Yami Yugi & Joey Wheeler vs. Para & Dox
Para draws. "Wall Shadow" attacks "Celtic Guardian", but Joey activates his face-down "Kunai with Chain", equipping ito "Axe Raider" and increasing the ATK of "Celtic Guardian" and "Axe Raider" by 500 ("Celtic Guardian: 1400 → 1900/1200, "Axe Raider": 1700 → 2200/1150). "Celtic Guardian" destroys "Wall Shadow" (Para: 2000 → 1700 LP). On Para's End Phase, the boost that "Celtic Guardian" got from "Kunai with Chain" expires ("Celtic Guardian": 1900 → 1400/1200).

 +
*A shot is changed in the dub to show the "Jirai Gumo" card being pierced by swords, rather than the monster itself.

Differences in adaptations
*The scenes on Pegasus' view screen have been changed in the US version to show a hidden arena, and then a close-up of Yami Yugi. Yami Yugi and Joey can be seen dueling the brothers in the arena, which is a mistake because they are still in the tunnels. In the Japanese, he's watching Yugi and the others walking through the tunnels, with small views of other scenes along the side of the screen.

*In the US version, Para's fierce face is replaced with a milder image from earlier.

*A long shot of the duel is added to the US version, to provide a transition from the commercial break.

*Another scene of the Paradox Brothers' acrobatics is added to the US version. The Japanese version goes right to Para's ordering the attack.

*A shot of fierce Para telling Yami Yugi his "Elf Swordsman" is doomed and his Life Points with it, is replaced in the US version with Dox saying the same thing.

*Dox sets "Jirai Gumo" as a trap card, which, in the Japanese version, it was, but in the US version, it has a monster card design as it does in real life (though the ATK and DEF are different for this duel).

*The words "TO BE CONTINUED" are added at the end of the dub episode.

*In the US version, Para says that the turns will cycle starting with him, then, Yugi, then his brother, then Joey, and then back to him. He and Dox are actually in the other's spot in the cycle. (This is possibly due to the direction switch of reading the brothers' "name").

Mistakes
*In the US version, for one scene, "Labyrinth Tank" is in its original Japanese card format.

"Double Trouble Duel, Part 2", known as "Integration of the Three Gods! Gate Guardian" in the Japanese version, is the twentieth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime. It first aired in Japan on September 5, 2000 and in the United States on March 23, 2002.

Summary

In the the Duel, Yugi and Joey bring out their strongest monsters, but the Paradox Brothers use "Magical Labyrinth" to change the shape of the maze and separate their monsters. The Paradox Brothers manage to draw all three pieces of "Gate Guardian" ("Kazejin", "Suijin" and "Sanga of the Thunder"), their most powerful monster.

Featured Duel: Yami Yugi & Joey Wheeler vs. Para & Dox

Duel continues from the previous episode.

Yugi has 1600 LP remaining, and controls "Celtic Guardian" (1400/1200) in Attack Position and no Set cards.
Joey Wheeler has 2000 LP remaining, and controls "Axe Raider" (2200/1150) in Attack Position equipped with "Kunai with Chain" and no Set cards.
Para has 1700 LP remaining, and controls no monsters or Set cards.
Dox has 2000 LP remaining, and controls "Labyrinth Tank" (2400/2400) in Attack Position, "Labyrinth Wall" and 1 Set card ("Jirai Gumo").

Turn 8: Joey
Joey draws "Flame Swordsman" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1800/1600) in Attack Position. Since "Flame Swordsman" is a Level 5 monster, Joey can move it up to 5 spaces, but he chooses to move it only 4 spaces inside the maze, arriving at the same space as "Celtic Guardian". He then moves "Axe Raider" inside the maze. Since it is a Level 4 monster, he moves it by 4 spaces. It joins "Flame Swordsman" and "Celtic Guardian".

Turn 9: Dox
Dox draws. He then moves "Labyrinth Tank" another 7 spaces.

Turn 10: Yami Yugi

Turn 11: Para
Para draws "Magical Labyrinth" and subsequently activates it to change the shape of "Labyrinth Wall" maze. "Flame Swordsman" and "Axe Raider" are separated from "Celtic Guardian" and "Dark Magician".

Turn 12: Joey

Turn 13: Dox
Dox draws. He then moves "Labyrinth Tank" another 7 spaces, arriving right behind "Jirai Gumo". He then Sets "Dungeon Worm".

Turn 14: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws "Mystic Box" and subsequently activates it to force "Jirai Gumo" and "Dark Magician" to swap locations and destroy "Jirai Gumo". "Dark Magician" attacks and destroys "Labyrinth Tank" (Dox: 2000 → 1900 LP).

Turn 15: Para
Para draws "Sanga of the Thunder" and subsequently Sets it.

Turn 16: Joey
Joey draws. He then moves "Flame Swordsman" five spaces.

Turn 17: Dox

Turn 18: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then activates "Magical Hats", hiding "Dark Magician" and "Flame Swordsman" under two of four "Hats".

Turn 19: Para

Turn 20: Joey

Turn 21: Dox
Dox draws "Kazejin" and subsequently Normal Summons it (2400/2200) in Attack Position. He then Flip Summons "Suijin" (2500/2400) and "Sanga of the Thunder" (2600/2200) and combines them with "Kazejin" in order to form "Gate Guardian" in Attack Position.

Turn 22: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then Sets two cards.

Turn 23: Para
"Sanga of the Thunder" attacks "Flame Swordsman".

Duel continues in the next episode.
