Tsunami, Mako

Mako Tsunami is a Duelist Construct of Mako Tsunami from the Yu-Gi-Oh! series in the Virtual Dueling System. He is also the opponent that the player faced in Stage 2-4 of the Classic Campaign mode in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Generation. The player has to defeat him in a Duel in order to unlock the next stage and progress Campaign mode.

Appearance[edit]

As a Duelist Construct, his appearance is based on Mako Tsunami, and the outfit is what he wore during the Battle City arc in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series.

Etymology[edit]

His given name, "Mako", originates from the Mako Shark, and his surname "Tsunami" comes from Tsunami, a type of large wave formed by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. His Spanish surname "Sunami" is a nonstandard alternate spelling of the word tsunami.

Rewards[edit]

There are a total of six rewards that the player can earn and received after defeating the Duel Construct in a Duel. The first two rewards are cards that come from the Duel Construct's Deck and the third reward is a recipe for their Deck. Then the fourth, fifth and sixth rewards repeated the same process of the three earlier rewards, but in a harder difficulty with a different Deck. In addition, the sixth reward will allow the player to have the Duel Construct's avatar and the ability to Duel them anytime between the two difficulty.

Deck[edit]

In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series, during the Duelist Kingdom arc, Mako Tsunami uses a WATER Deck that relies on the water field environment. In the Battle City arc, Mako continue to use a WATER Deck that relies on the water field environment, and use the Field Spell "Umi" to blend the two fields together. He also improve his Deck by using "Umi" series cards that can only work if the Field Spell is on the field.

In Duel Generation, the Duelist Construct plays a Deck called Great Ocean which uses the Field Spell "Umi" from that Deck along with the series of cards that can only work if "Umi" is on the field. These "Umi" cards are "Deepsea Warrior", "Levia-Dragon - Daedalus", "The Legendary Fisherman" and "Tornado Wall". "Deepsea Warrior" and "The Legendary Fisherman" are both unaffected by Spell effects if "Umi" is on the field, but "Fisherman" has a another effect which allow it to not be targeted for attacks at the cost of allowing the opponent to attack directly with their monster(s). "Levia-Dragon - Daedalus" can send "Umi" on their field to destroy all other cards on the field and "Tornado Wall" can prevent battle damage from attacking monsters if "Umi" is on the field. While "Umi" is on the field, all Fish, Sea Serpent, Thunder, and Aqua monsters gains 200 ATK/DEF while all Machine and Pyro monsters loses 200 ATK/DEF.

After the player defeat Mako's Great Ocean Deck three times, the next difficulty and Deck is unlocked. This Deck features the cards from the "Mermail" archetype which Mako didn't used in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series.

The Mermail Abyss Deck focuses on using the cards from the "Mermail" archetype to Summon the signature card "Mermail Abyssmegalo", and use its effect to add a "Abyss-" Spell/Trap Card from the Deck to the hand and it can also Tribute 1 other face-up Attack Position monster to attack twice this turn. The "Abyss-" Spells are Equip Spells that can only be equipped to "Mermail" monsters and it grants the equipped monster a ATK boost. In addition, each "Abyss-" Spells will automatically negate a effect on the opponent's field depending on the card type written in its card text once that effect is resolved, and if this effect is used, the "Abyss-" Spell will be send to the Graveyard. The "Abyss-" Traps are situational cards whose effects last until the End Phase. Within this Deck, there is the "Atlantean" cards whose effects automatically activated after being send from the hand to the Graveyard from a WATER monster's effect to either destroy or search a card. Similar to the "Atlantean" cards, there are some Level 3 "Mermail" monsters whose effects can be activated after being discarded or sent from the hand to the Graveyard. The Level 7 "Mermail" monster can activate the "Atlantean" or Level 3 "Mermail" monsters by using their Special Summoning effect. These Special Summoning effect requires one other WATER monster from the hand to be discarded to the Graveyard in order to Special Summon themselves. In doing so, another effect can be activated from the Level 7 "Mermail" monster to add a card to their hand.
