The North American WCQ 2019 Special is a Scripted Duel taking place on day three of the 2019 North American World Championship Qualifier in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 23, 2019. Wayne Grayson and Nell Balaban (also credited as Karen Neil) reprise their original roles as Joey Wheeler and Ishizu Ishtar, respectively.
Synopsis
Joey Wheeler and Ishizu Ishtar find themselves at the World Championship Qualifiers as hosts. Joey asks Ishizu if she's as excited to see the results as he is, but Ishizu states that she's already used the power of her Millennium Necklace to see the results ahead of time. Joey asks if he'll be the winner, but Ishizu reminds him that he's not even a participant today. Joey complains that it's only because the judges claimed that his Deck was "full of illegal cards" and "unfit for the Advanced Format" and "used cards that are not yet released in his region" (all baseless accusations, Joey insists). Joey's still itching to Duel today, and so challenges Ishizu. Ishizu accepts, but tells Joey that she already knows exactly how she will win.
And so, the man who leaves his fate to chance and the woman who has forseen the path to victory begin their Duel.

Joey Sets a monster.
Turn 2: Ishizu Ishtar
Ishizu activates "Necrovalley Throne" and uses its first effect to add 1 "Gravekeeper's" monster from her Deck to her hand. She adds "Gravekeeper's Commandant" to her hand. Ishizu then activates the effect of "Gravekeeper's Commandant", discarding it to add "Necrovalley" from her Deck to her hand, which she then activates. While "Necrovalley" is on the field, all "Gravekeeper's" monsters on the field gain 500 ATK/DEF, and in addition, cards and effects are now unable to move or otherwise affect cards in the Graveyard (even the effects of cards already in the Graveyard).
Ishizu Normal Summons "Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier" (1500 → 2000/1000 → 1500). She attacks Joey's face-down monster, revealed to be "Mystic Tomato" (1400/1100), with "Gravekeeper's Spear Soldier". Since it's attacking a Defense Position monster, Ishizu's monster inflicts piercing battle damage to Joey (Joey: 4000 → 3100 LP). "Mystic Tomato" is destroyed; however, Joey activates its effect. Since it was destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Joey can Special Summon 1 DARK monster with up to 1500 ATK from his Deck in Attack Position. Joey Summons "The Black Stone of Legend" (0/0).

Turn 4: Ishizu
Ishizu Normal Summons "Gravekeeper's Assailant" (1500 → 2000/1500 → 2000). She then activates a second "Necrovalley Throne", this time using its second effect to immediately Normal Summon another "Gravekeeper's" monster, this time "Gravekeeper's Descendant" (1500 → 2000/1200 → 1700). She follows up with "Card of Sanctity", allowing both players to draw until they have six cards in their hand.
Ishizu attacks "Flame Swordsman" with "Gravekeeper's Assailant". Since "Necrovalley" is on the field when "Gravekeeper's Assailant" declared an attack, Ishizu activates its effect to change the battle position of Joey's "Flame Swordsman". The attack continues, and "Flame Swordsman" is destroyed. Ishizu then attacks and destroys "Blue Flame Swordsman" with "Gravekeeper's Descendant" (Joey: 3100 → 2300 LP). Joey attempts to activate the effect of "Blue Flame Swordsman" to banish itself from the Graveyard and revive "Flame Swordsman", but Ishizu informs him that "Necrovalley" prevents both actions from occurring.
Ishizu Sets four cards. During her End Phase, Joey activates his Set "Sixth Sense". Joey will declare two numbers from 1 to 6, and Ishizu will roll a six-sided die. If she rolls one of Joey's declared numbers, Joey can draw that many cards; otherwise, Joey will have to send that many cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard. Joey declares 5 and 6, and Ishizu rolls her die. The result is a 5, and so Joey draws 5 cards.
Turn 5: Joey
Joey activates "Giant Trunade" to return all Spells and Traps on the field to the hand; however, Ishizu activates her Set "Imperial Tombs of Necrovalley". Since she controls "Necrovalley" and a "Gravekeeper's" monster, she negates the activation of "Giant Trunade" and destroys it. Joey then Normal Summons "Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight" (1800/1600), and then equips it with "Lightning Blade" to increase its ATK by 800. However, because a card was equipped to "Gearfried", Joey can destroy the equipped card to destroy a Spell/Trap Ishizu controls. He destroys "Lightning Blade" to destroy "Necrovalley" ("Gravekeeper's Assailant" and "Gravekeeper's Descendant": 2000 → 1500 ATK).
Joey activates "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" from his Graveyard in Attack Position. He then Tributes "Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning" in his hand to Special Summon "Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon" (2400/2000) from his hand in Attack Position. Joey attacks "Gravekeeper's Descendant" with "Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon"; however, since a monster that was Summoned by Tributing another monster has attacked, Ishizu activates her Set "Blast Held by a Tribute" to destroy all of Joey's Attack Position monsters, and inflict 1000 damage to Joey (Joey: 2300 → 1300 LP).[Notes 1]
Since it was destroyed by a card effect, Joey activates the effect of "Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon" to Special Summon 1 Level 7 or lower "Red-Eyes" monster from his Graveyard. In addition, since one or more "Red-Eyes" monsters he controls were destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, Joey also chains to it the effect of "Red-Eyes Retro Dragon" in his hand, Special Summoning it from his hand in Defense Position, and then Special Summoning the destroyed monsters from his Graveyard to his field in the same battle position. The chain resolves in reverse order: first, Joey Summons "Red-Eyes Retro Dragon" (1700/1600) from his hand, as well as "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", "Alternative Black Dragon", and "Gearfried the Red-Eyes Iron Knight" from his Graveyard. And with the effect of "Alternative Black Dragon", Joey also Special Summons "Red-Eyes Archfiend of Lightning" from his Graveyard in Attack Position.

Joey once again activates the effect of "Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon" to Special Summon "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" from the Graveyard. Since it was "Red-Eyes Black Dragon" that was Summoned this way, the original ATK of the Summoned monster is doubled ("Red-Eyes Black Dragon": 2400 → 4800 ATK). One more time for good measure, Joey attacks "Gravekeeper's Decendant" with "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", and because comedy comes in threes, Ishizu activates her Set "Enchanted Javelin" to increase her LP by the ATK of the the attacking monster (Ishizu: 2400 → 7200 LP). The attack continues, and "Gravekeeper's Descendant" is (finally) destroyed (Ishizu: 7200 → 3900 LP).

Turn 6: Ishizu
Ishizu activates "Pot of Greed" to draw two cards. She then activates "Pot of Desires" to banish the top ten cards of her Deck face-down and draw two more cards. Ishizu Normal Summons "Gravekeeper's Headman" (500 → 1000/1500 → 2000). As it was Summoned, Ishizu activates its effect to Special Summon "Gravekeeper's Descendant" back from her Graveyard. She activates the effect of "Gravekeeper's Descendant". By Tributing "Gravekeeper's Headman", she destroys "Red-Eyes Black Dragon". Next, she activates "Polymerization", using "Gravekeeper's Assailant" and "Gravekeeper's Descendant" as Fusion Material to Fusion Summon "Gravekeeper's Supernaturalist" (2000/2000). Her monster gains ATK/DEF equal to the total Levels of its Fusion Materials x 100 ("Supernaturalist": 2000 → 2800 ATK).
Ishizu attacks "Red-Eyes Retro Dragon" with "Gravekeeper's Supernaturalist"; however, Joey activates his Set "Roulette Spider". He will roll a six-sided die, and apply an effect based on the result. Notably, with a 5 or 6, he can negate the attack and inflict 2800 damage to Ishizu or destroy the attacking monster, respectively. However, the result is a 1, and so Joey's LP are halved (Joey: 1300 → 650 LP). The attack continues, and "Red-Eyes Retro Dragon" is destroyed.
Ishizu Sets a card. Ishizu also activates the effect of "Gravekeeper's Supernaturalist". During the End Phase of this turn, she can add a "Gravekeeper's" card or a "Necrovalley" card from her Deck to her hand. She ends her turn, and using her monster's effect adds "Gravekeeper's Spiritualist" to her hand.
Turn 7: Joey
Before Joey makes a move, Ishizu activates her Set "Necrovalley Temple" and activates its effect. During either player's Main Phase, if she doesn't control a card in her Field Zone, she can activate "Necrovalley" directly from her hand or Graveyard ("Supernaturalist": 2800 → 3300 ATK). Now that she controls "Necrovalley" and a "Gravekeeper's" monster, all monsters Joey controls will now lose 500 ATK/DEF.
Joey activates "Cup of Ace". He will toss a coin, and if the result is heads, he'll draw two cards, but if the result is tails, Ishizu will draw two cards instead. Unfortunately, the result is tails, and Ishizu draws two cards. Undeterred, Joey activates "Red-Eyes Insight". By sending a "Red-Eyes" monster from his Deck to the Graveyard, he can add a "Red-Eyes" Spell/Trap from his Deck to his hand. He sends "Red-Eyes Wyvern" to the Graveyard, and adds "Red-Eyes Fusion" to his hand. He then activates "Red-Eyes Fusion", sending "Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon" and "Meteor Dragon Red-Eyes Impact" from his Deck to the Graveyard as Fusion Material to Fusion Summon "Meteor Black Comet Dragon" (3500 → 3000/3000 → 2500). He cannot Summon other monster for the rest of the turn, but the name of his monster becomes "Red-Eyes Black Dragon".
