Dark Yugi and the convict's Shadow Game was a Shadow Game in the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and first series anime.

In the manga, the rules of the game were each player can only use one of their ten fingers and whoever dies loses. This was played while the convict, had Dark Yugi at gunpoint while he held Anzu Mazaki hostage.

In the anime, the convict was named Jiro the Jorogumo and the loser didn't necessarily die.

Manga version

Prior events

The convict escaped from Domino City Jail and ran towards Domino City. While running he became thirst near Burger World and went inside to get drinks and a cigarette. At the door, he grabbed the waitress, Anzu and held a gun to her head. He warned everyone to be quite or he'd kill her. Anzu was forced to blindfold herself with the ribbon from her uniform and the customer, Yugi, was forced to serve him vodka and Lucky Stripe cigarettes.

Yugi switched to Dark Yugi, who gave the convict what he ordered, but then sat down across from him and challenged him to a game. The convict put his cigarette in his mouth and began pouring his drink as Dark Yugi explained the rules.

The game

The convict choose to use his right index finger, thinking he could just shoot Dark Yugi. Dark Yugi choose his thumb.

As the convict was about to pull the trigger, Dark Yugi used his thumb to switch on a cigarette lighter. The convict allowed Dark Yugi to light his cigarette as the last thing he did before dying. However after doing so, Dark Yugi placed the lighter on the convict's left arm, which was still pouring his alcohol. The vodka in his glass began to overflow and spill on the convict. Dark Yugi warned him that by shooting, he would knock the lighter and set the vodka on the fire.

Dark Yugi stood up and escorted Anzu, who was still blindfolded away. The convict eventually dropped his cigarette, setting himself on fire.

Aftermath

Dark Yugi switched back to Yugi, who had no recollection of what happened. After Anzu removed her blindfold, she looked around for the man who saved her and couldn't believe it was Yugi, as he had no knowledge of what happened. She thought to herself that she had fallen in love with the man who saved her.

Anime version

Prior events

Jiro escaped from prison, disguised as Tetsu Tasaki, who also escaped. Jiro proceeded to commit a series of crimes, which were all blamed on Tetsu.

Jiro disguised himself as a staff member at Burger World, where Tetsu went for a meal. After the detective arrived and alerted the staff that there was reason to believe Tetsu was in the restaurant, Jiro cooperated in the search to find which customer he was. However Tetsu resisted arrest and was able to expose Jiro in the process.

Jiro then took Anzu hostage, had her blindfold herself and forced Yugi to serve himself alcohol and cigarettes. Yugi switched to Dark Yugi and challenged Jiro to the game. Jiro put the cigarette in his mouth and began pouring his drink.

Aftermath

Anzu quit her job at Burger World, so she could spend more time with Yugi, but still had no knowledge of who saved her.
