"Yuna's Determination" is the fifty-fourth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime. It aired in Japan on April 16, 2023.
Due to Operation MIK, aliens and people who associate with them have been driven to the underground Alien Residential Area. In an act of defiance, Yuna heads back to the Goha Company by herself. There, she finds Manabu waiting for her in the president's office. In order to find out where Phaser is, she challenges Manabu to a Duel!
Summary
At Badloon Castle, Yuamu reminds Rovian that she predicted the coming of the Great King of Terror so she's sure she'll know what's happened in Mutsuba Town and what will happen in the future, but Rovian strums her Duel Guitar and claims to know nothing in English, then states "Camos, nothing camos this way". Yudias is initially excited but then confused by Rovian's words, and Damamu cheerfully clarifies that Rovian doesn't know anything. Asaka rushes in and desperately asks where Yuna is, having been unable to find her anywhere in Badloon Castle, and as Yuamu and Yudias react in shock, Rovian strums her Duel Guitar, singing that a Duel of destiny shall be played, Go Rush. Damamu interprets this as Yuna going to the Goha Company, much to Yuamu and Yudias' shock, and Asaka admitted she'd had a bad feeling and run here, but she was too late.
At the Goha Company office Yuna bursts into her office and orders Phaser Ryugu to come out, but Manabu's voice explains from the president's chair that MIK Commander Phaser Ryugu isn't here and he turns in his seat while stroking Nyandestar with a cry of "Chemi chemi chemi!" much to Yuna's shock. He stands up, Nyandestar jumping from his lap to the desk and explains he is MIK's chemi executive officer placed in charge of Goha Company, Doctor Manabu Sogetsu, while Nyandestar re-introduces herself as well, woofing at the end of her sentence. Yuna orders them to take her to Phaser, but Nyandestar denies her order with a woof and Manabu explains he knows she came here because of the aliens, calling her a fool for siding with them despite being human, much to Yuna's shock. Manabu claims that chemistry however always gives a clear answer and dramatically yells "Aliens go home!" repeatedly, Nyandestar woofing in agreement. Inwardly, Manabu apologies to Yuna as he believes acting like an idiot to be the only way to make her understand he's still with MIK for a reason, but Yuna criticizes him for hitting rock bottom and Manabu realizes she didn't understand that he was acting. He tries to clear up his mistake but Nyandestar bats him in the face and reminds him quietly that they're being watched when he protests - and sure enough Phaser is watching from three cameras in the office, narrowing his eyes as he hears footsteps.
Yudias, Yuamu, Damamu and Asaka all enter the office, much to Yuna's surprise, and Manabu comments that all those wanted by Operation MIK - Mitigation of Interstellar Kriminals are here. Yudias asks Mananu in shock what's wrong, though Yuamu seems to realize what's happening as Nyandestar (woofing again) claims they aren't the people Yudias and the others thought they were. Once again Manabu introduces himself as Chemical Executive Officer Doctor Manabu Sogetsu, Nyandestar introducing herself with a woof, and Manabu again claims that chemistry however always gives a clear answer and dramatically yells "Aliens go home!" repeatedly, Nyandestar woofing in agreement. He's sure they'll have to get it's an act this time, but Asaka, Yuna and Yudias are all burning with rage, Yudias declaring Manabu's heart to have been tainted by evil. Manabu is horrified they didn't notice, ironically failing to notice that Yuamu has realized what's going on and is reflecting that everyone's a little tense right now so of course they didn't notice. Asaka cautions Yuna not to do anything rash, but Yuna replies that Asaka of all people should know how she feels and she thinks back to That Guy working in his office, showing her Rush Duel cards and tricking her into turning into a mirror. She challenges Manabu to a Rush Duel, and if she wins he'll take her to Phaser. Manabu mutters "Chemi?" in confusion and Yuna tells him he can turn her into a card or whatever he'd like if she loses, much to Yuamu and Asaka's shock. Nynadestar says Manabu's name quietly and Manabu accepts Yuna's challenge.
At Badloon Castle, Rovian asks the little stray lamb what they're doing here in fermata, and Yuhi claims he has no reason, he just wanted to come by. Rovian strums her Duel Guitar, claiming the chick who could do nothing but chirp has flown away from her, and Yuhi asks if she means Yuna, but Rovian simply wonders what the chick saw and felt as she spread her wings, appassionato?
A bird flies over the Goha building as Yuna and Manabu face off with their Duel Disks at the ready on the roof, introducing themselves as Yuna Goha and Manabu Sogetsu before inserting their Decks into their Duel Disk with a call of "Go Rush!!" to deploy the blades and the holographic dome. Yuna takes the first turn and draws a card, her hand containing "Celeb Rose Magician", two copies of "Shining Shamaness", "Braid Blade Reader" and "Rose Chain Salvage". She Summons "Shining Shamaness" and "Braid Blade Reader", then sends another "Shining Shamaness" from her hand to the Graveyard to activate the effect of "Braid Blade Reader", sending the top three cards ("Defender of Dragon Sorcerers", "Paxcyclinder" and "Charis Magic Scepter - Death Wand") of her Deck to the Graveyard and then adding an Equip Spell Card from her Graveyard to her hand, "Death Wand". Narrowing her eyes at the sight of the Equip Spell, Yuna Tributes "Shining Shamaness" and "Braid Blade Reader" to Tribute Summon, chanting "Be careful out there. One prick of my magic and you'll become my captive. Celeb Rose Magician!"
As "Celeb Rose Magician" appears with 2100 ATK, Yudias asks in surprise if Yuna isn't using the Deck she used before and Asaka explains Yuna had been borrowing it from That Guy, much to Yudias and Yuamu's surprise, and she states this is Yuna's real Deck. Yuna remembers That Guy finding her building a Spellcaster Deck two years previously, upon which she had blushed and denied without any prompting that it had been because she was inspired by him. That Guy had grinned, and Yuna had snatched his Deck and claimed she would be using it as a reference. She had been shocked by That Guy's Deck including all six Attributes, and That Guy had explained that his "Sevens Road Magician" relied on the power of those Attributes, as it gave him power one would never expect him to have. Yuna remembers Rush Dueling with That Guy atop the building and reflects that she built her "Celeb Rose" Deck with him before chanting "The beautiful magic plays a note of ruin! In the name of Yuna Goha, I bestow this gift upon Celeb Rose Magician! Charis Magic Scepter - Death Wand!" Manabu braces himself as "Celeb Rose Magician" takes up "Death Wand", Yuna explaining that it increases its ATK by 400. "Celeb Rose Magician" rises to 2500 ATK, and Yuna Sets a card to end her turn, vowing to win and give Phaser Ryugu a piece of her mind. Meanwhile Yuhi has snuck to the top of the stairs to the roof, surprised to see Yuna Dueling Manabu.
Manabu declares his turn and a chemi-chemi draw, his hand containing "Hot the Combustion Spirit", "Melt the Aqueous Spirit", "Bolt the Conduction Spirit", "Super Assistant Achi" and "Red Riser". He chemi-chemi-Summons "Melt the Aqueous Spirit", "Hot the Combustion Spirit" and "Bolt the Conduction Spirit", then activates the effect of "Hot", allowing him to send cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard equal to the number of Types he controls, and he controls three, Aqua, Pyro and Thunder, so he sends three cards to his Graveyard, "Analyze Phlogiston", "Chemical Distill" and "Blast Examiner", then draws a card since he sent at least two FIRE Attribute monsters to the Graveyard. Drawing "Scale of Flames", Manabu then discards "Achi" and "Red Riser" to activate the effects of "Melt" and "Bolt", adding the Pyro Type "Analyze Phlogiston" and "Chemical Distill" from his Graveyard to his hand. Then he Tributes "Melt" and "Bolt" to Tribute Summon, chanting "Burn beyond the laws of matter! Now come forth from the blaze! Analyze Phlogiston!" He discards "Scales of Flame" to activate the effect of "Analyze Phlogiston", returning three monsters from his Graveyard to his Deck whose total Levels equal 7 to destroy all of Yuna's monsters. Fire erupts from "Analyze Phlogiston's" jaws, but Yuna explains that "Death Wand" prevents effects from destroying "Celeb Rose Magician" and she dispels the flames with "Death Wand". Frustrated, Manabu Tributes "Hot" to Tribute Summon "Chemical Distill" and Yuna gasps as Manabu activates its effect, sending "Chemicalize Salamander" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard to increase the ATK of "Analyze Phlogiston" by 700 until the end of the turn, to 3000, then sending "Distill" itself to the Graveyard to draw a card. Setting a card, Manabu orders "Analyze Phlogiston" to roar and attack "Celeb Rose Magician" with "Ash Slash Brimstone". Everyone watching gasps as "Celeb Rose" is destroyed and Yuna reduced to 3500 LP, knocking her off her feet. Manabu ends his turn, returning the ATK of "Analyze Phlogiston" to normal and Nyandestar watches in concern.
Yuna hears her own voice commenting that fury and rage are what's driving her, and she looks up in shock to see five copies of herself standing above her atop the Goha Company logo, each with different hair: orange, blue, green, red and purple. Yuna gasps that there's so many of her, and the purple-haired "Dark Yuna" comments that she's shaking with a rage she's never felt before because That Guy was sealed into a card. Yuna gasps as she remembers The Relic sealing That Guy into a card and tells her other selves that she wants to give Phaser Ryugu a piece of her mind. The other Yunas laugh, and when Yuna asks what they find so funny, Dark Yuna tells Yuna that all she's done until how has been to run away, something Yuna denies. The orange-haired Earth Yuna accuses Yuna of letting her emotions guide her as though she's given up thinking, and when Yuna protests that isn't true, the blue-haired Water Yuna (sharing the verbal tic of adding "tuna" at the end of her sentences as Skipjack and Yujin Goha) comments that Yuna left everything to That Guy, including the development of Rush Dueling. The red-haired Fire Yuna accuses Yuna of chasing Rovian, who accepted her without a word, and pushing all the annoying stuff off on That Guy, Yuna protesting she didn't, but the green-haired Wind Yuna tells her that normally she would have gone full throttle to get the Goha Company back after MIK took it over, but she didn't do anything and ran off again because That Guy said he'd take care of it. Yuna frantically denies their claims again and Dark Yuna mocks Yuna's claim that she'd give Phaser a piece of her mind. Bowing her head, Yuna admits she knows she's been using That Guy as an excuse so she could run away, but she really does want to pummel Phaser with her own hands since That Guy wouldn't have had to go off on his own if she'd been stronger. She declares the other Yunas are embodiments of her weaker self, alter egos born from her running away and tells them to disappear, as she will become stronger. However the five Yunas glow with a rainbow light that shatters harmlessly and Yuna asks why they won't disappear. Earth Yuna points out that they won't go away just because she's decided to change into a new person, and Water Yuna points out that all of them are the reason Yuna is who she is today. Fire Yuna agrees that every Yuna is a living testament and Wind Yuna adds that people don't and can't change so easily before all five of them pull a similar gesture of mockery.
Yuna sits up, her other selves gone, and whispers that she failed in her conference with herself, but if it had been That Guy... Yuamu asks Asaka what kind of relationship Yuna and That Guy have and Asaka explains that he just appeared one day (literally crashing through the roof at Mutsuba Heavy Industries in front of Yuna and Asaka in a suit of armor) and claimed to be from the future. She remembers That Guy printing several cards at a hydraulic press and Yuna blushing, explaining That Guy managed to create a groundbreaking new technology in their old Duel system and save the Goha Company from near-bankruptcy. She remembers watching That Guy enjoying people Rush Dueling with Yuna, who commented that he must be a genius that no matter the situation could bring smiles to everyone at the end of the day. She begins to say something about Yuna, but stops, though Yuamu puts her hand over her mouth as she realizes what Asaka means.
At Badloon Castle, Rovian recites a serenade, made of fluttering wings of love that move the heart.
Yuna thinks to herself That Guy came out of nowhere, caused chaos in her heart, then turned into a card without even asking. He's always doing as he pleases. She clenches her fist and gets to her feet, angry and furious at herself and swallowed by rage, realizing that she's wrong: it's not Phaser or even herself who needs a talking to, but That Guy - whose face she sees - is the one who needs a beating.
She tells Manabu that he'll take her to Phaser Ryugu if she wins, as she needs to give That Guy a piece of her mind, and declares her turn and draws five cards, "Shining Shamaness", "Celeb Rose Witch", "Fusion", "Defender of Dragon Sorcerers" and "Pierce!". Summoning "Shining Shamaness", Yuna Tributes her to Tribute Summon "Celeb Rose Witch", then sends "Defender of Dragon Sorcerers" from her hand to the Graveyard to activate the effect of "Celeb Rose Witch" and Special Summon "Celeb Rose Magician". Nyandestar gasps and then Yuna activates "Fusion", fusing "Celeb Rose Witch" and "Celeb Rose Magician" and chanting "O noble flowers of light! Beware of our prickly thorns! Fusion Summon! Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician!" "Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician" appears with 3000 ATK to the joy of Damamu, Asaka, Yuamu and Yudias, and Yuna sends a card from her hand to the Graveyard to activate the effect of "Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician", adding an Equip Spell Card from her Graveyard to her hand. Adding "Death Wand", she adds that she can also destroy one of Manabu's monsters and orders "Phlogiston" to disappear as "Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician" blasts a surge of magic from her palm and disintegrates "Phlogiston". Then she equips "Death Wand" to "Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician", and as she gains 400 ATK from "Death Wand" Manabu and Nyandestar gasp and Yuna explains that the effect of "Death Wand" increases the ATK of "Fabulous Magician" by a further 600 as she is a Fusion Monster. "Fabulous Magician" increases to 4000 ATK, to the joy of Yuhi, Yudias, Yuamu, Damamu and Asaka, and Yuna thinks about That Guy, vowing to beat him up. Then she feels a hand on her back, and looks back to see Wind Yuna supporting her, followed by her other four selves, all of them nodding in encouragement, and she remembers That Guy telling her that his "Sevens Road Magician" relied on the power of those Attributes, as it gave him power one would never expect him to have. Tearing up with happiness, Yuna orders a direct attack from "Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician" with "Noble Red Whip", and Yudias cheers that it's her win.
But Manabu activates the Trap Card "Pyro Funnel", sending three cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard and then reducing the ATK of "Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician" by 300. A blast of flame reduces "Fabulous Magician" to 3700 ATK, and Yuna gasps as her attack connects, reducing the screaming Manabu to 300 LP. Yudias curses Manabu and Yuna gasps as the image of That Guy fades in her mind and she declares she isn't done and will finish Manabu next turn. She ends her turn, returning the ATK of "Celeb Rose Fabulous Magician" to 4000.
Manabu declares his turn and a chemi-chemi draw, but to his horror in addition to "Super Assistant Achi" and "Burning Flame Examiner Emperor" he's drawn "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix [L]", "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix", and "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix [R]" - three pieces of a Maximum Monster. Nevertheless he holds up the three cards, much to the shock of the onlookers, chanting "Transcend all logic and be born again as one! Maximum Summon! Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix!" A massive armored phoenix appears flanked by a bird of lightning and a bird of ice, standing with 3500 MAXIMUM ATK, and Yudias gasps that Manabu Maximum Summoned, while Yuhi is shocked to learn that Phaser isn't the only one with a Maximum Monster. Yuna is shocked as well, but activates her Trap Card, "Rose Chain Salvage", Special Summoning "Celeb Rose Magician" from her Graveyard, who is revived by glowing pink chains in Defense Position, and gaining LP equal to its Level times 100, rising to 4200 LP. Manabu returns the Aqua Type "Melt" from his Graveyard to his Deck to activate an effect of "Volcalize Phoenix", and "Volcalize Phoenix [R]" whips up cold gusts of wind and shrieks as Manabu destroys "Death Wand", reducing "Fabulous Magician" to 3000 ATK. Yuna grits her teeth as Manabu returns the Thunder Type "Bolt" from his Graveyard to his Deck to activate the second effect of "Volcalize Phoenix", "Volcalize Phoenix [L]" screeching as Manabu destroys "Celeb Rose Magician". Yuna protests that she still has "Fabulous", but Manabu adds that as "Volcalize Phoenix" is in Maximum Mode he can also choose to destroy another monster. "Fabulous Magician" explodes, to Yuamu and Asaka's horror, and Yuna laments its loss, then Manabu discards the Pyro Type "Achi" to activate the third effect of "Volcalize Phoenix", "Maxi-Buster Burst Burning", inflicting 1000 damage to Yuna and reducing her to 3200 LP. Manabu grits his teeth and Nyandestar says his name in concern, before Nyandestar orders "Volcalize Phoenix" to attack directly for a chemi-chemi-finish with "Maxi-Fine Fire Fantastic". The three "Volcalize Phoenixes" blast a massive sphere of blue fire at Yuna, blasting her off her feet in a burst of rose petals and wiping out her LP.
As the sun sets everyone - including Manabu and Nyandestar - can only watch in shock as Yuna cries silently. Manabu exaggeratedly declares his is how it is, but begins to reassure Yuna he won't seal her into a card this time - and then the Relic crashes into the top of the building in between him and Yuna, to his and Nyandestar's shock. Yuna wipes her eyes and her friends recoil in horror as the crystal atop the Relic begins to glow, Phaser's voice explaining that those defeated by Maximum Monsters will be sealed into cards. Blue energy erupts from the crystal and envelops Yuna, Asaka gasping in horror as Yuna declares this isn't the finale, but an overture and a prelude. She smiles at Asaka before exploding into yellow particles that coalesce into a card, and Yudias and Damamu gasp as the card falls to the ground, Rovian's voice wondering what the chick saw and felt as she spread her wings as Yuamu and Asaka watch in shock. Yuhi too has fallen to his hands and knees behind the door, and Manabu's expression is hidden as Nyandestar reminds him they're doing this to understand how the process of sealing someone into a card works, and Manabu angrily whispers that he knows.
Featured Duel: Yuna Goha vs. Manabu Sogetsu
The Duel is conducted as a Rush Duel.
Turn 1: Yuna
Yuna's hand contains "Celeb Rose Magician", two copies of "Shining Shamaness", "Braid Blade Reader" and "Rose Chain Salvage". Yuna Normal Summons "Shining Shamaness" (100/400) and "Braid Blade Reader" (300/1300). Yuna activates the effect of "Braid Blade Reader", sending a LIGHT Attribute Spellcaster Type monster or a Spell Card from her hand to the Graveyard to send the top three cards of her Deck to the Graveyard, and if there is a LIGHT Attribute Spellcaster Type monster(s) among them, she can also choose one Equip Spell Card in her Graveyard and add it to her hand. She sends "Shining Shamaness" from her hand to the Graveyard and sends "Defender of Dragon Sorcerers", "Paxcyclinder" and "Charis Magic Scepter - Death Wand" from the top of her Deck to the Graveyard, then since she sent the LIGHT Attribute Spellcaster Type "Defender of Dragon Sorcerers" to the Graveyard she adds the Equip Spell Card "Charis Magic Scepter - Death Wand" from her Graveyard to her hand. Yuna Tributes "Shining Shamaness" and "Braid Blade Reader" to Tribute Summon "Celeb Rose Magician" (2100/1500). Yuna activates the Equip Spell Card "Charis Magic Scepter - Death Wand", equipping it to a face-up LIGHT Attribute Spellcaster Type monster she controls. She equips "Death Wand" to "Celeb Rose Magician". The effect of "Death Wand" increases the ATK of the equipped monster by 400 and prevents it from being destroyed by Manabu's card effects, and if the equipped monster is a Fusion Monster it gains 600 more ATK ("Celeb Rose Magician": 2100 → 2500/1500). Yuna Sets a card.
Turn 2: Manabu
Manabu's hand contains "Hot the Combustion Spirit", "Melt the Aqueous Spirit", "Bolt the Conduction Spirit", "Super Assistant Achi" and "Red Riser". Manabu Normal Summons "Melt the Aqueous Spirit" (300/200), "Hot the Combustion Spirit" (800/900) and "Bolt the Conduction Spirit" (400/0). As "Hot" was Normal Summoned this turn, Manabu activates its effect, sending cards from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard equal to the number of different Types he controls, and if he sends two or more Pyro Type monsters with this effect, he draws a card. Manabu controls the Pyro Type "Hot", the Aqua Type "Melt" and Thunder Type "Bolt", so he sends "Analyze Phlogiston", "Chemical Distill" and "Blast Examiner" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard, then draws "Scales of Flame" as "Analyze Phlogiston", "Chemical Distill" and "Blast Examiner" were Pyro Type monsters. Manabu's hand contains "Scales of Flame", "Super Assistant Achi", and "Red Riser". Manabu activates the effect of "Melt", sending a Level 4 or lower monster from his hand to the Graveyard to add a Level 7 or 10 Pyro or Thunder Type monster from his Graveyard to his hand, then he can add a "Chemicalize Structure Force" from his Graveyard to his hand. He sends "Red Riser" from his hand to the Graveyard and adds the Level 7 Pyro Type "Analyze Phlogiston" from his Graveyard to his hand. Manabu activates the effect of "Bolt", sending a Level 4 or lower monster from his hand to the Graveyard to add a Level 5 or 10 Pyro or Aqua Type monster from his Graveyard to his hand, then he can add a "Chemicalize Structure Force" from his Graveyard to his hand. He sends "Super Assistant Achi" from his hand to the Graveyard and adds the Level 5 Pyro Type "Chemical Distill" from his Graveyard to his hand.[Notes 1] Manabu Tributes "Melt" and "Bolt" to Tribute Summon "Analyze Phlogiston" (2300/2300).
Manabu activates the effect of "Analyze Phlogiston", sending a Spell/Trap Card from his hand to the Graveyard to shuffle three Pyro Type monsters from his Graveyard into the Deck whose total Levels equal the total Levels of the Attack Position Level 8 or lower monsters Yuna controls, then destroy all Attack Position Level 8 or lower monsters Yuna controls, but he can only attack with one monster this turn. Yuna controls the Level 7 Attack Position "Celeb Rose Magician", so Manabu shuffles the Level 5 "Blast Examiner" and Level 1 "Red Riser" and "Super Assistant Achi" from his Graveyard into his Deck to destroy the Level 7 "Celeb Rose Magician", but the effect of "Death Wand" prevents the equipped monster from being destroyed by card effects. Manabu Tributes "Hot" to Tribute Summon "Chemical Distill" (1600/1200). As Manabu has an Aqua or Thunder Type monster in his Graveyard, he activates the effect of "Chemical Distill", sending the top card of his Deck to the Graveyard, and if he sends a monster to the Graveyard with this effect, he can choose one face-up monster he controls and increase its ATK by 100 x the Level of the sent monster until the end of the turn, then Manabu can send "Chemical Distill" to the Graveyard to draw a card. Manabu sends the Level 7 "Chemicalize Salamander" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard, chooses to increase the ATK of "Analyze Phlogiston" ("Analyze Phlogiston": 2300 → 3000/2300) and chooses to send "Chemical Distill" to the Graveyard to draw an unknown card. Manabu Sets a card. "Analyze Phlogiston" attacks and destroys "Celeb Rose Magician" (Yuna: 4000 → 3500 LP).
Turn 3: Yuna
