"Black Ray Lancer" equipped with "Number 39: Utopia" by the effect of "Armored Xyz".
  • This monster's design and pose are based on "Black Ray Lancer" equipped with "Number 39: Utopia" by the effect of "Armored Xyz" in Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL episode 01212: "The Pack, Part 2".
    • This monster's alternate Summoning condition and original ATK (2500) is based on the aforementioned scene in the same episode, where the effect of "Armored Xyz" also allows the ATK of "Black Ray Lancer" to become the same as "Utopia's" 2500 ATK. Additionally, the former Xyz Monster is a Rank 3 monster, while the latter is a Rank 4 monster, which fits the criteria for this monster's alternate Summoning condition.
    • This monster's effect to decrease monsters' ATK by 500 is based on the effect of "Needle Sunfish", which was used to decrease the ATK of "Number 61: Volcasaurus" by the same amount after it was detached from "Black Ray Lancer" in the same episode.
    • This monster's effect to negate the effects of Attack Position monsters during the Battle Phase is based on the effect of "Armored Xyz", which allows the name of the Xyz Monster to become the same as the Xyz Monster equipped to it. As such, during the final turn of the Duel in the same episode, Yuma Tsukumo used this effect to allow the name of "Black Ray Lancer" to become the same as "Utopia", allowing it bypass the standard anime effect of the "Number" monsters, which prevents themselves from being destroyed by battle, except with other "Number" monsters.
    • This monster's final effect is an alteration of the final effect of "Armored Xyz", which allows the player to send the Xyz Monster equipped to the Xyz Monster on the field to the Graveyard to allow the equipped monster to make a second attack. During the final turn of the Duel in the same episode, after "Black Ray Lancer" equipped with "Utopia" destroyed "Volcasaurus" by battle, Yuma Tsukumo sent "Utopia" to the Graveyard to allow "Black Ray Lancer" to make a second attack against a defenseless Scorch and win his and Reginald "Shark" Kastle's Duel against Scorch and Chills.
