Lists

Albaz Dragon is a series of Level 8 DARK or LIGHT Fusion Monsters that mention "Fallen of Albaz" as a Fusion Material. They share a similar naming scheme, and the majority of them have 2500 ATK and 2000 DEF. The series is indirectly supported by the "Branded" archetype and related themes.

Design

Appearance

The majority of the Albaz Dragons are draconic transformations of "Fallen of Albaz" or "Aluber the Jester of Despia". Most of them share thematic similarities with a specific archetype they support or are associated with.

All of them share a draconic appearance, although not all of their Types are Dragon. Most of the Albaz Dragons also share general design features as well, such as red spikes on their body and red wings textured similar to fire and brimstones.

Two exceptions are the mechanical Albaz Dragons: "Sprind the Irondash Dragon" and "Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon". The former is a draconic aircraft piloted by "Fallen of Albaz", while the latter is a draconic robot piloted by "Springans Kitt".

Etymology

The Albaz Dragons share a similar naming scheme in both the OCG and TCG. In the OCG, they are named as such: "[First kanji] + [Second kanji] + りゅう (Ryū) + [Name in katakana]". In the TCG, their naming scheme is "[Name] the [Term] Dragon".

The kanji and katakana parts of their names both contain references to the corresponding archetype and trait of each Albaz Dragon.

Members

Albaz Dragons

Most of the Albaz Dragons are transformations of "Fallen of Albaz" as a reaction to various catalysts.

The first Fusion Material of the majority of Albaz Dragons is "Fallen of Albaz", whereas the second material differs between each member, and likely refers to the respective opponent of each Albaz Dragon according to the Abyss lore, which is represented by the effect of "Fallen of Albaz" to Fusion Summon using monsters from either field as Fusion Materials. An exception is "Albion the Branded Dragon", whose second material likely refers to "Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous" on the same side of the field (represented by the effect of "Branded in White").

Instead, "Lubellion the Searing Dragon" is a transformation of "Aluber the Jester of Despia". The materials of "Lubellion" are listed in the reversed order, compared to the other Albaz Dragons, to reflect this contrast. "Alba-Lenatus the Abyss Dragon" is the fused form of "Aluber" and "Albaz", with the former in control.

Each Albaz Dragon is associated with a corresponding archetype related to the 'Abyss' storyline, either through direct support toward that specific archetype or similarities in effects.

  1. "Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon" is a Wyrm monster with an effect that banishes cards, similar to the "Swordsoul" monsters.
  2. "Lubellion the Searing Dragon" is a LIGHT Fusion Monster that requires a DARK Fusion Material, similar to the "Despia" Fusion Monsters.
  3. "Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon" is a Winged Beast monster that requires a Beast, Beast-Warrior, or Winged Beast monster as a material, similar to the "Tri-Brigade" Link Monsters.

"Iceblade Token" also has the same stats as the Albaz Dragons. It is a mirage of the four past Dragons ("Titaniklad", "Brigrand", Sprind", and "Albion") used by "Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon" as depicted in "Branded Sword".

Related Dragons

The Level 8 Fiend Fusion Monsters related to the "Despia" archetype are similar to the Albaz Dragons. They are the draconic transformations of enemies that oppose "Fallen of Albaz", and they share similar stats and/or effects as the Albaz Dragons. Likewise, they are also supported by the "Branded" archetype.

"The Bystial Lubellion" is another draconic transformation of "Aluber the Jester of Despia", and it shares the same Type; Attribute; Level; ATK; and DEF as "Lubellion the Searing Dragon" (an Albaz Dragon form of "Aluber").

"Albion the Shrouded Dragon" is a transformation of "Albion the Branded Dragon" and shares the same stats as it. However, it is not considered to be part of the series due to not being a Fusion Monster that lists "Fallen of Albaz" as a material.

Playing style

"Fallen of Albaz", "Albaz" Fusion Monsters, and their dedicated support monsters form one part of an overarching playstyle, typically called "Branded Despia", which encompasses "Albaz"-related cards, the "Branded" archetype of Spell & Trap cards, and the "Despia" archetype. Within Branded Despia, "Albaz" Fusion Monsters provides the Deck with its primary Extra Deck boss monster, "Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon", and forms a key part of the "Branded" resource loop with the GY effects of "Albaz" Fusion Monsters.
