Playmaker and Akira's Duel is the ninth Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime, conducted between Playmaker and Akira Zaizen for the information about the Lost Incident stored in SOL Technologies' data bank.

Prior events

After defeating Prototype Green-A in a Speed Duel, Playmaker reached SOL Technologies' data bank, he found himself opposed by Zaizen, who tried to stop Playmaker's quest for revenge. Playmaker and Zaizen then Duel, with the information in the data bank and Ai on the line.

The Duel

Turn 1: Zaizen
Zaizen Normal Sets a monster. As Zaizen controls a face-down Defense Position monster, he Special Summons "Tindangle Base Gardna" (0/2300) from his hand in Defense Position. Zaizen Sets a card.

Turn 2: Playmaker
Playmaker activates the effect of "Bitrooper" in his hand, sending a Level 2 or lower monster from his hand to the GY to Special Summon "Bitrooper" from his hand. He sends the Level 2 "Stack Reviver", then Special Summons "Bitrooper" (1500/2000). Playmaker Normal Summons "Cyberse Gadget" (1400/300). As "Cyberse Gadget" was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, targeting a Level 2 or lower monster in his GY and Special Summoning it in Defense Position, but its effects are negated. He targets and Special Summons "Stack Reviver" (100/600). Playmaker sets "Bitrooper", "Cyberse Gadget", and "Stack Reviver" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Decode Talker" (2300/↙↑↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Cyberse Gadget" was sent from the field to the GY, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Gadget Token". He Special Summons it (0/0) to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Decode Talker" points to. As "Stack Reviver" was used as material for a Link Summon, Playmaker activates its effect, targeting one other Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster in his GY that was used as material for that Link Summon and Special Summoning it in Defense Position. He targets and Special Summons "Cyberse Gadget" (1400/300) to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Decode Talker" points to. The effect of "Decode Talker" increases its ATK by 500 for each monster it points to. It points to a "Gadget Token" and "Cyberse Gadget" ("Decode Talker": 2300 → 3300 ATK). As a monster was Normal or Special Summoned and is now pointed to by Playmaker's Link Monster, Zaizen activates the effect of "Tindangle Base Gardna", Tributing it to Special Summon a "Tindangle" monster from his hand or Deck in Attack Position or face-down Defense Position. He Special Summons "Tindangle Hound" (2500/0) in Attack Position. The effect of "Tindangle Hound" decreases the ATK of each monster Playmaker controls by 1000 for each monster linked to it ("Decode Talker": 3300 → 1300 ATK, "Cyberse Gadget": 1400 → 400 ATK). Zaizen activates his face-down Continuous Trap "Lemoine Point". As a "Tindangle" monster is in the Monster Zone, the effect of "Lemoine Point" prevents Playmaker's monsters from targeting face-down Defense Position monsters for attacks.

Playmaker sets a "Gadget Token" and "Cyberse Gadget" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Flame Administrator" (1200 → 200/←↘) to the zone "Decode Talker" points to ("Decode Talker": 1300 → 2300 → 1800 ATK). The effect of "Flame Administrator" increases the ATK of all Link Monsters Playmaker controls by 800 ("Decode Talker": 1800 → 2600 ATK, "Flame Administrator": 200 → 1000 ATK). "Decode Talker" attacks and destroys "Tindangle Hound" (Zaizen: 4000 → 3900 LP, "Decode Talker": 2600 → 3600 ATK, "Flame Administrator": 1000 → 2000 ATK). As "Tindangle Hound" was destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the GY, Playmaker activates its effect, targeting a face-down monster on the field and changing it to face-up Defense Position. He targets and changes his face-down "Tindangle Angel" (500/1800) to face-up Defense Position. As "Tindangle Angel" was flipped face-up, Zaizen activates its Flip effect, Special Summoning a different Flip monster from his hand or GY in face-down Defense Position, then if it is Playmaker's Battle Phase, Zaizen ends the Battle Phase. He Special Summons "Tindangle Hound" from his GY and ends the Battle Phase. Playmaker Sets a card.

Turn 3: Zaizen
Zaizen Flip Summons "Tindangle Hound" (2500/0) ("Decode Talker": 3600 → 2600 ATK, "Flame Administrator": 2000 → 1000 ATK). As "Tindangle Hound" was flipped face-up, Zaizen activates its Flip effect, targeting one other face-up monster on the field and increasing the ATK of "Tindangle Hound" equal to that target's original ATK, then changing that target to face-down Defense Position. He targets "Tindangle Angel" and changes it to face-down Defense Position ("Tindangle Hound": 2500 → 3000 ATK). "Tindangle Hound" attacks and destroys "Flame Administrator" (Playmaker: 4000 → 2000 LP, "Decode Talker": 2600 → 1800 → 1300 → 2300 ATK). Zaizen Sets a card.

Turn 4: Playmaker
Playmaker Normal Summons "Balancer Lord" (1700/1200). Playmaker activates his face-down Continuous Trap "Limit Code", placing a Limit Counter on it for each Cyberse Link Monster in his GY, then Special Summoning a "Code Talker" monster from his Extra Deck, then equipping "Limit Code" to it. "Flame Administrator" is in Playmaker's GY, so he places a Limit Counter on it, then Special Summons "Encode Talker" (2300 → 1300/↑↓↘) to a zone "Decode Talker" points to ("Limit Code": 0 → 1 Limit Counter, "Decode Talker": 2300 → 2800 → 1800 ATK). Playmaker sets "Balancer Lord" and the Link-3 "Encode Talker" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Firewall Dragon" (2500 → 1500/↑←↓→) to a zone "Decode Talker" points to. As Playmaker controls a Link-4 or higher Link Monster, he activates the Spell "Linkage Hole", destroying monsters Zaizen controls up to the number of Link-3 or higher Link Monsters Playmaker controls. Playmaker controls the Link-4 "Firewall Dragon" and the Link-3 "Decode Talker", so he destroys "Tindangle Hound" and the face-down "Tindangle Angel" ("Firewall Dragon": 1500 → 2500 ATK, "Decode Talker": 1800 → 2800 ATK). As Zaizen controls no monsters, "Lemoine Point" is destroyed by its own effect. "Decode Talker" attacks Zaizen directly (Zaizen: 3900 → 1100 LP). As Zaizen took battle damage from Playmaker's attacking monster while Zaizen has three or more "Tindangle" monsters with different names in his GY, Zaizen activates his face-down Trap "Tindangle Delaunay", destroying the attacking monster, then Special Summoning "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" from his Extra Deck. He destroys "Decode Talker", then Special Summons "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" (0/↙↑↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. The effect of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" increases its ATK by 1500 for each "Tindangle Hound" and "Tindangle Angel" in his GY ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 0 → 3000 ATK). Playmaker Sets a card.

Turn 5: Zaizen
"Tindangle Acute Cerberus" attacks "Firewall Dragon". Playmaker activates his face-down Trap "Doppler Phase Coating", targeting a Cyberse monster he controls and equipping "Doppler Phase Coating" to it. The effect of "Doppler Phase Coating" prevents the equipped "Firewall Dragon" from being destroyed by battle once per turn. The attack continues and "Firewall Dragon" is not destroyed (Playmaker: 2000 → 1500 LP). At the end of the Battle Phase, as "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" declared an attack, Zaizen activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Tindangle Token". He Special Summons it (0/0) in Defense Position to a zone "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" points to. The effect of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" increases its ATK by 500 for each "Tindangle" monster it points to ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3000 → 3500 ATK). Zaizen Sets two cards.

Turn 6: Playmaker
Zaizen activates his face-down Trap "Gergonne's End", targeting a "Tindangle" Link Monster he controls and equipping "Gergonne's End" to it. He targets "Tindangle Acute Cerberus". The effect of "Gergonne's End" prevents the equipped "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" from being destroyed by battle or card effects, also Playmaker cannot target it with card effects. Playmaker activates the Spell "Alert Lancer", allowing a Cyberse monster to inflict piercing battle damage to Zaizen if it attacks a Defense Position monster. "Firewall Dragon" attacks a "Tindangle Token". Zaizen activates his face-down Continuous Trap "Morley's Shield". During damage calculation, as a "Tindangle" monster in Zaizen's Main Monster Zone is battling, he activates the effect of "Morley's Shield", preventing him from taking any battle damage from that battle. The attack continues and the "Tindangle Token" is destroyed ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3500 → 3000 ATK).

Turn 7: Zaizen
Zaizen draws and subsequently activates the Continuous Spell "Nagel's Protection". The effect of "Nagel's Protection" prevents "Tindangle" monsters in Zaizen's Main Monster Zones from being destroyed by battle or Playmaker's card effects. "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" attacks "Firewall Dragon". If Zaizen's "Tindangle" monster inflicts battle damage to Playmaker, the effect of "Nagel's Protection" doubles the damage once per turn. The attack continues and "Firewall Dragon" is not destroyed (Playmaker: 1500 → 500 LP). At the end of the Battle Phase, as "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" declared an attack, Zaizen activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Tindangle Token". He Special Summons it (0/0) in Defense Position to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" points to ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3000 → 3500 ATK).

Turn 8: Playmaker
Playmaker Sets a card.

Turn 9: Zaizen
"Tindangle Acute Cerberus" attacks "Firewall Dragon". Playmaker activates his face-down Quick-Play Spell "Cynet Backdoor", targeting a Cyberse monster he controls and banishing it, then adding a Cyberse monster from his Deck to his hand, whose ATK is lower than the targeted monster's original ATK. During Playmaker's next Standby Phase, the monster banished by this effect returns to the field, and it can attack directly that turn. He targets and banishes "Firewall Dragon", then adds "Draconnet". As "Doppler Phase Coating" was sent from the field to the GY during the Battle Phase, its effect activates, ending the Battle Phase. At the end of the Battle Phase, as "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" declared an attack, Zaizen activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Tindangle Token". He Special Summons it (0/0) in Defense Position to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" points to ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3500 → 4000 ATK). Zaizen activates the Field Spell "Euler's Circuit". The effect of "Euler's Circuit" prevents Playmaker's monsters from attacking if Zaizen controls three or more "Tindangle" monsters.

Turn 10: Playmaker
During the Standby Phase, the banished "Firewall Dragon" returns to the field at the middle Main Monster Zone (2500/↑←↓→). Playmaker Normal Summons "Draconnet" (1400/1200). As "Draconnet" was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a Level 2 or lower Normal Monster from his hand or Deck in Defense Position. He Special Summons the Level 2 "Bitron" (200/2000) from his Deck. Playmaker sets "Bitron" in the Link Arrow to Link Summon "Link Spider" (1000/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Playmaker activates the effect of "Link Spider", Special Summoning a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from his hand to his zone "Link Spider" points to. He Special Summons the Level 2 "Digitron" (1500/0) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Link Spider" points to. Playmaker sets "Digitron" and "Draconnet" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Recovery Sorcerer" (1500/←↓) to the zone the middle-right Link Arrow of "Firewall Dragon" points to. Playmaker sets "Link Spider" in the Link Arrow to Link Summon "Secure Gardna" (1000/→) to the zone the top-center Link Arrow of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" points to. As there are monsters in all zones the equipped "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" points to, Zaizen activates the effect of "Gergonne's End", destroying "Gergonne's End" and all of those monsters, then inflicting damage to Playmaker equal to the ATK of the equipped "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" before they were destroyed ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 4000 → 3000 ATK). "Gergonne's End", two "Tindangle Tokens", and "Secure Gardna" are destroyed. After "Secure Gardna" is Special Summoned, its effect prevents Playmaker from taking effect damage for the rest of this turn. As a co-linked Cyberse Link Monster was destroyed and sent to the GY, Playmaker activates its effect, targeting one of those Link Monsters and Special Summoning it, but it has its effects negated, also it is destroyed during the End Phase. He targets and Special Summons "Secure Gardna" (1000/→) to the zone the middle-left Link Arrow of "Firewall Dragon" points to. Playmaker activates the effect of "Firewall Dragon", targeting monsters on the field and/or GY up to the number of monsters co-linked to "Firewall Dragon" and returning them to the hand. "Firewall Dragon" is co-linked to "Secure Gardna" and "Recovery Sorcerer", so he targets "Tindangle Hound" and "Tindangle Angel" in Zaizen's GY and returns them to Zaizen's hand ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3000 → 0 ATK). "Firewall Dragon" attacks and destroys "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" (Zaizen: 1100 → 0 LP).

Aftermath

As Playmaker won the Duel, he and Ai proceed to access the information stored in SOL's data bank. After finally getting what he needed, Playmaker logged out, leaving Zaizen, Blue Angel and Ghost Gal behind.
