"Salamangreat" (サラマングレイト Saramangureito) is an archetype of FIRE Cyberse monsters used by Takeru Homura in the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime.

Design

Appearance

"Salamangreat" appear to have a general fire theme, resembling animals with flaming armor. Additionally, the animals they resemble are largely carnivores.

Etymology

The name of this archetype is a portmanteau of "salamander" (サラマンダー Saramandā) and "great" (グレート Gurēto). The kanji (転生炎獣) literally translate to "reincarnation flame beast", referencing Takeru's use of Reincarnation Link Summon. The archetype is also loosely inspired by alchemy, with Emerald Eagle being named after the "Emerald Tablet" and Violet Chimera serving as the representation of a chimaera.

Playing style

A "Salamangreat" Deck focuses around swarming the field with monsters to set up for Link Summons. It accomplishes this through many of the Main Deck monsters having effects to Special Summon themselves as well as with "Salamangreat Heart". As the Deck is not heavily reliant on its Normal Summon, "Red Resonator" and by extension "Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Horse Prince" work very well to provide additional Summons, while also being eligible material for the "Salamangreat" Link Monsters.

A unique feature of the "Salamangreat" Deck is the boss monsters' potential to be Summoned by using another copy of itself as material or Tribute, called Reincarnation Link Summon in the anime for the Link Monsters. This is achieved through their Field Spell "Salamangreat Sanctuary". When Summoned this way, their monsters gain additional effects. In addition, "Salamangreat Heart" and "Gift" gain additional effects while the player controls a "Salamangreat" Link Monster Summoned in this way.

The Deck also has Ritual Summoning capabilities with "Rise of the Salamangreat" and "Salamangreat Emerald Eagle", which can be searched by "Pre-Preparation of Rites". Another option for a Ritual Spell is "Cynet Ritual". They can also Fusion Summon "Salamangreat Violet Chimera" with "Fusion of Fire".
