Shadow Coliseum manager

The Shadow Coliseum manager, known as the Dark Coliseum manager (闇のコロシアム支配人 Yami no Koroshiamu shihainin) in the Japanese version, is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. In the English dub, his full title was the grand battle chief and combat outfitter of Shadow Coliseum. In the Japanese ending credits, he is simply called manager (支配人 shihainin).

The manager is a non-player character in the Legendary Heroes video game.

Biography

The manager organized battles at the Shadow Coliseum. He put up a poster, advertising a prize "Niwatori" card that people could win by defeating the village champion in the coliseum.[1]

Yugi Muto, Joey Wheeler, and Mokuba Kaiba saw the poster and opted to give it a try, since they needed a Niwatori to cross the desert during the sandstorm. The manager commended their bravery, noting that the champion is so strong they were having trouble finding challengers. (In the English dub, he said he was unsure, since the city takes their gladiator matches very seriously, but if they desired a shot at the champion, he would not stand in their way.) As he spoke a fly flew around the room, which he then caught with his tongue and ate. He decided to let them battle the champion immediately and handed over a pig mask and a cape to be worn for the fight. Yugi asked about the danger and the manager explained that players would battle until their Life Points reached 0.[1]

The manager commented on the battle. He introduced Joey as "Señor Porky" and Mai Valentine as the "Madam Butterfly" ("Joe the Wolf Killer" and "Champion Butterfly" in the Japanese version).[1] However Mai and Joey stopped fighting once they realized that they knew each other. Mai got her "Harpie Lady" to use her "Rose Whip" to steal the manager's "Niwatori" card and she Joey, Yugi, and Mokuba then fled the coliseum.[2]
