it's highly unlikely that they're the same character since 1. Toei has the rights to their original designs and 2. most people think Aoyama is the guy with the cowboy hat from the intro

Shougo is [[Mokuba Kaiba|Mokuba's]] age and has a "[[Red-Eyes B. Dragon (Bandai)|Red-Eyes B. Dragon]]" in his Magic and Wizards (Duel Monsters) [[Deck]]. He is too timid to pull a winning streak, and once he gets the Red-Eyes resorts to simply intimidating people with it so they won't duel him. [[Yugi Mutou|Yugi]] tries to encourage Shougo by dueling with [[Seto Kaiba]].

After [[Yusei Fudo]] is transfered to the same room as him, he tells Yusei that he has been planning to escape and invites Yusei to come with him, but Yusei says he wants to escape with [[Himuro]] and [[Yanagi Tenzen|Yanagi]].
