Speed Duel (スピードデュエル Supīdo Dyueru) is a beginner format that was used in Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game. It easy to experience and recommended for players to remember the basics on how to play the game. This concept was first introduced in the "Duel Terminal" system under a different ruling system. It was later used as the main gameplay of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters Saikyo Card Battle and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links.
The rules are:
- 4000 Life Points
- 4 cards in your starting hand
- 20 cards in your Main Deck
- 5 cards in your Extra Deck
- 3 Monster Card Zones
- 3 Spell & Trap Zones
- Like a normal Duel, the first player doesn't draw on their first turn, the hand size limit is 6, both players can have an active Field Spell Card, and there can only be 3 cards with the same name in the Main Deck and Extra Deck.
There are Field Spell Zones, Pendulum Zones, Graveyards, Main Deck, Extra Deck and Banished Zone.
How to play
- Shuffle the Deck and draw four cards.
- During the Draw Phase, each player draws a card. The player that starts first cannot draw until their next turn.
- During the Standby Phase, certain cards can activated.
- During the Main Phase, players can Summon monsters, activate Spell/Trap Cards, and use card effects. During this phase, players can either proceed to the Battle Phase or End Phase.
- If it's the Battle Phase, the player can use their monsters to attack the opponent's monsters or attack directly while the opponent does not control monsters.
- During the End Phase, if the player has seven or more cards in their hand, cards must be discarded until the player has six cards in their hand.
- Like the regular card game, a player wins if they reduce their opponent's LP to 0.
