The Summoned Skull Sample promotional card is a test printing of the Starter Deck: Yugi "Summoned Skull" that was distributed internally within Upper Deck Entertainment and to prospective Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game retailers in 2001, as part of a welcome kit that also included an official rulebook and a playmat.

While it has the same card number as its Starter Deck: Yugi print, this print has several key differences: it is glossy like an OCG card, its card text line-wraps in a different position, and its card backing has the word "SAMPLE" printed diagonally.
Another print of the Starter Deck: Yugi "Summoned Skull" was distributed in the Kids' WB! "Duelin' Monsters Giveaway" in November 2001; this print was also glossy, but lacked the word "SAMPLE" on the back, as well as the Eye of Anubis Hologram in the bottom right corner.
