Taiyou Torimaki

Taiyou Torimaki is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. He is an Obelisk Blue student at Duel Academy and one of Chazz Princeton's friends.

Although not named in the anime, he is named in some video games, being called Taiyou Torimaki in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Spirit Caller and Topher in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Duel Academy.

DesignEdit

Taiyou is a tall teenager with dark blue hair, which features a wavy curl hanging from the front side. He wears the standard Obelisk Blue uniform, buttoned down the front, and a small pair of eyeglasses with rectangular lenses perched on his nose.

While in the Society of Light, Taiyou wears the white-colored version of the Obelisk Blue uniform with a lavender design.

Voice and MannerismsEdit

Taiyou is one of Chazz Princeton's two friends in Obelisk Blue, along with Raizou Mototani who were first seen watching the entrance exam Duels into Duel Academy taking place at Kaiba Land. Taiyou expressed admiration for Bastion Misawa after he easily defeated the Duel Academy examiner. Before Dr. Vellian Crowler's Duel with the tardy examinee, Jaden Yuki, Taiyou was surprised to see Crowler personally Duel an examinee and use his "Dark Medieval" Deck instead of a standard examination Deck. He, along with Chazz and Raizou, all watched with shock as Crowler was defeated by Jaden.

As Jaden and his new Slifer Red roommate, Syrus Truesdale explored Duel Academy, they came across the academy's Duel arena where Taiyou and Raizou, along with Chazz were hanging out. Taiyou and Raizou forbade Jaden and Syrus from Dueling in the arena since it was reserved for students of the Obelisk Blue dorm. The two Obelisk Blue students recognized Jaden from the entrance exam. When Jaden introduced himself to Chazz and inquired about him, Taiyou was surprised to hear that he hadn't heard of Chazz, explaining that he was the number one Duelist among the first-year students enrolled. When Jaden confidently told them he would be the number one Duelist in the academy, Taiyou and Raizou laughed, with the former ordering him to learn his place as a drop-out Slider Red before he was interrupted by Chazz, who reminded them that Jaden defeated Dr. Crowler. As Chazz and Jaden expressed interest in Dueling each other, Alexis Rhodes interrupted them, reminding them of their dorms' welcoming parties before Chazz, Taiyou, and Raizou all exited the arena.

Later that evening, when Chazz challenged Jaden to an afterhours Ante Duel at the arena through his PDA, Taiyou was among those present to witness the Duel. When Alexis warned them about the security guards patrolling the arena, everyone was forced to flee before they were caught and expelled for breaking the rules, including Taiyou.

When a new shipment of rare cards were delivered to Duel Academy, Taiyou and Raizou urged Chazz to hurry before they were sold out, but they were already purchased. Later, Chazz and his two friends encountered a figure wearing a black jacket and hat, whom Taiyou recognized as the person who purchased all the rare cards. The figure revealed himself to be Crowler, much to their surprise, who gives the rare cards to Chazz in exchange for Dueling and defeating Jaden in the practical exams later that afternoon.

Chazz, Taiyou, and Raizou watched the Tag-Team Duel between Jaden and Syrus against the Paradox Brothers, where the former two were nearly expelled for entering the forbidden Abandoned Dorm. Taiyou, noticing Chazz's growing anger towards Jaden, asked him if he was alright. After Jaden and Syrus won their Duel, Taiyou called out to Chazz as he stormed out of the arena

Following Chazz's sudden departure from Duel Academy, after his defeat in his Duel against Bastion, Syrus informed Jaden in class. Taiyou told Raizou and another Obelisk Blue student that he saw Chazz pack his belongings and ran off. He also went so far as to call him a "loser" and "bad rubbish" before laughing.

Society of LightEdit

When Chazz returned to the Obelisk Blue dorm after joining the Society of Light, Taiyou was one of the first to be defeated by him and join the Society.
