"Rock the Rush Duel", known as "Romin's Secret" in the Japanese version, is the third episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime. It first aired in Japan on April 18, 2020. It aired on Disney XD on June 7, 2022 in America and became available on Hulu in America on the same day.

Goha Enterprises has started taking action in order to eliminate Rush Duels. However, they don't directly target Yuga and his friends for some reason. Feeling that Goha might be leaving them at large on purpose in order to observe them, Luke decides to do some investigation on Romin, who's been acting suspiciously. Yuga suggests using a Rush Duel to get a read on Romin, but...

Summary

Romin takes a photo of Yuga and Luke on the way to school.

At her house, Romin Kassidy looks at a Duel Monsters card before putting it in her guitar case. That morning, Yuga is riding to school on his Duel-cycle as a Goha Enterprises Drone flies over him, wishing everyone a good morning and hoping that they have a lovely day. Yuga spots Luke and greets him, but as he rides past Luke, Luke touches the seat of his Duel-cycle and activates his power, shutting the Duel-cycle down. Yuga asks Luke to knock it off with the Pauli effect, but Luke urgently tells him that it's an emergency and he shows him on his smartphone that the videos of their Rush Duel have been deleted. Yuga asks if that's all, and Romin approaches them as Luke asks what Yuga means by "is that all", protesting that all of them are gone. Yuga activates his Duel Disk and it shifts into the "7" form as he points out that it can still transform, so Rush Dueling should be fine. Luke flicks through his smartphone, noting that Goha Enterprises should know about them by now, but doesn't Yuga find it strange. He freaks out as he realizes that Goha may be observing them. Romin snaps a picture of them on her smartphone as she walks past, catching their attention, and she tells them to hurry up or they'll be late. Luke mutters that Romin's action was fishy as Yuga looks after her.

At Goha #7 Elementary, Gavin states that Romin Kassidy is in Class 5-1 (in the dub he doesn't mention her class) and that she's smart, athletic, and plays in the elementary school band, RoaRomin. Luke states that anyone who goes to their school should know that, and he comments that Gavin's info wasn't very helpful. Gavin isn't happy about that and asks why Luke is even looking into Romin (while Yuga ignores them as he tinkers away off to the side). Luke protests that Romin is super sus, recalling her knowledge of Real-Time Duel Programming, and Gavin admits that Romin did know some oddly specific things about Dueling. Luke freaks out, wondering if she works for Goha and imagining Romin taking photos of Yuga eating and reporting that his weakness is his dislike of capsicum. This scenario just distracts Gavin purely due to the fact that Yuga doesn't like capsicum (vegetables in the dub) protesting that it's highly nutritious for him. Naturally, Yuga hasn't been listening and Luke tells him that they were talking about how Romin has been acting suspicious. Yuga thinks back to Romin's claim that she wasn't interested in Dueling and her taking a photo of them that morning and he admits that she does seem as though she is hiding something, much to Luke's glee and Gavin's worry, and he makes a decision.

Yuga's new Road fails to determine if Romin is hiding something.

Romin is sitting alone in Class 5-1 listening to music when Yuga suddenly dangles a microphone attached to a fishing pole in front of her (which he dubs his "Truthinator" in the dub). She asks what it is in confusion, and Yuga explains that it's his new Road; it analyzes sound waves and automatically determines truth and lies. Romin still seems confused, so Yuga demonstrates by speaking into the microphone and claiming to like capsicum (veggies in the dub) causing the end of the microphone to glow with an "X" and impressing the other boys. Yuga casts the microphone back to Romin and asks if she's hiding something, and Romin speaks into the microphone, timidly asking if it seems that way (in the dub she states "of course not"). The end of the microphone flashes with an "X", much to Luke's glee and Gavin's shock, but then it fluctuates between an "X" and an "O" and explodes in Romin's face, much to Yuga's embarrassment, Luke's disappointment, and Gavin's worry. The flustered Romin admits that was an interesting invention, and Yuga eagerly corrects her that it's his Road, then excitedly invites Romin to his Road Laboratory, stating that he has a bunch more interesting stuff there. Gavin flushes at the notion of inviting a girl over (in the dub he asks if Yuga just asked Romin on a date) though Luke is appreciative, although Yuga is just confused by their reactions. Romin asks if Yuga invented Rush Duels there, and Yuga confirms that he did, so Romin decides to come along.

Romin finally agrees to Rush Duel.

Yuga takes them to his Road Laboratory, a small building tucked away beside old shipping containers. The door opens and Yuga's modified Drone emerges, much to everyone's surprise (in the dub Gavin points out this looks like private property and asks if they're allowed to be present; the Drone then arrives and calls them trespassers). Upon seeing Romin, the Drone immediately asks for her autograph, whipping out a pad for Romin to sign, prompting Luke and Gavin to face-fall. Gavin recalls that it's the Drone that Yuga modified, and Romin takes the pen and asks if the Drone has a name. Yuga thinks about it while the Drone begs him to quickly give him a name so Romin can write it, and Yuga quickly settles on "Kaizo" (the Japanese word for "remodel"). (In the dub, Yuga has already named Kaizo, who instead asks for a photo and wonders if Yuga has a camera, though Yuga claims he doesn't, much to Kaizo's disappointment.) The newly-named Kaizo is disappointed by the name, believing it to be too literal, and Romin sweatdrops. Inside the laboratory, Romin looks at Yuga's assembled Roads in shock, including his Duel-cycle. Another of Yuga's Roads, a glass sphere attached to tubes, descends over Luke's head and spins him around in his swivel chair, much to Gavin's shock. Romin winces at the sight and she asks what is Yuga's most impressive Road. Yuga replies that it's obviously Rush Dueling, and Romin asks if they are really that impressive. Yuga claims that Romin will know once she tries (while Luke's spinning in the bubble finally stops behind him), but Romin declines, reminding them that she doesn't really have any interest in Dueling. Yuga cheekily comments that it makes sense; Romin knows that she will lose, so she isn't really up for Dueling. Romin twitches in irritation as Yuga adds that losing to the inventor of Rush Duels can't be helped. Gavin notes to a now blow-drying Luke that Yuga lost to him, and Luke is released from the sphere with puffy hair and a cocky grin. Romin warns Yuga not to be so certain that she would lose, and Yuga tells her not to worry about it, as everyone hates losing (in the dub he claim mastering Rush Dueling isn't as easy as learning the guitar). Romin protests that they wouldn't know unless they tried, and as Yuga grins, she realizes what she's just said. She tries to brush it off by claiming that she can't Duel without a Deck or Duel Disk, but is promptly presented with a Duel Disk by Kaizo and Yuga's spare Deck, and Romin looks between the two objects helplessly before taking them and declaring that she'll do it. Gavin expresses surprise (while Luke puts his hair back in order) and Kaizo eagerly offers to take Romin's belongings. Romin refuses, and though Kaizo suggests her guitar case would be a hindrance, Romin claims that it's fine (in the dub Romin defensively claims she's worried Kaizo's small hands would drop her guitar, an observation he agrees with). As Kaizo deflatedly agrees, Luke notes that Romin is always carrying the case and he wonders if it contains spy equipment. Gavin is skeptical, but Luke thinks it's suspicious.

Yuga leads them outside, reassuring Romin that she'll do fine even if it's her first Rush Duel since they're really easy to pick up. Romin wonders what's with Yuga treating her like a beginner, and she puts her guitar case down and picks up the Deck case, announcing that she's ready. Kaizo politely declares that Romin can go first, before rudely telling Yuga that he'll go second, much to his shock (in the dub, Kaizo states the Duelist he likes more will go first, so Yuga's going second, Yuga admitting the remark was a burn). Kaizo tells Romin that he will support her during her first Rush Duel, and instructs her to place her Deck into the Duel Disk. Romin inserts the Deck case into her Disk, deploying the blade, and Yuga deploys his as well. Both Yuga and Romin call "Let's go! Rush Duel!" causing the green dome to materialize over them.

Gavin yanks Luke back as he tries to look in Romin's guitar case.

Kaizo tells Romin to ask him if she needs any help, declaring that they will beat Yuga into a pulp by combining their strength. Off to the side, Luke muses on Romin's panic when Kaizo asked for her guitar case and he wonders if there's a secret to it. He thinks to himself that Romin had to put her guitar case aside to Duel and wonders if Yuga intended for him to check it, mentally congratulating Yuga and springing into action, crawling through the grass towards the case. Gavin leaps in front of him, protesting that he's invading Romin's privacy, and Luke lunges, declaring that this is all for becoming the King of Duels as Gavin struggles to hold him back (in the dub Luke claims privacy is meant to be invaded and Gavin insists that it isn't). Romin wonders what's going on and Yuga sweatdrops, then suggests he explain the rules of Rush Dueling (in the dub he suggests they focus on their own Duel rather than Luke and Gavin's). Romin replies that she knows them already; she starts with four cards in her hand. She declares her turn and draws, much to Yuga's joy, and she adds that in a Rush Duel she can Summon as many monsters per turn as she wants, right? Yuga confirms that she can, Rush Duels start with maximum acceleration...and he trails off as he spots Gavin and Luke wrestling with one another before stopping once they realize they're being watched.

Romin Tribute Summons "Ansler the Magical Swordsman".

Romin gets back to the Duel, and she looks at her hand, containing "Pierce!", "Spell Archer", "Ansler the Magical Swordsman", "Magical Stream" and an Effect Monster. She Summons "Spell Archer" first, and she then selects "Ansler", but Kaizo zips in, asking her to wait. It explains that to Summon that monster, Romin needs to Tribute a monster she controls in what is called a "Tribute Summon". Romin repeats the term, and she thinks back to Luke Tribute Summoning "Multistrike Dragon Dragias". Yuga helpfully tells Romin that Tributing is the act of sending a monster to the Graveyard, but Gavin pops up in instructor mode, explaining that the star symbol on a Monster Card is the monster's Level. In Rush Duels, monsters up to Level 4 have no restrictions on Summoning them, but Level 5 and Level 6 monsters require one Tribute, and Level 7 or higher monsters require two Tributes. Romin looks at the Effect Monster in her hand, a Level 7 monster, and she notes that she can't Summon it yet and urges herself to be patient. She asks them how about this, Tributing "Spell Archer" to Tribute Summon the Level 6 "Ansler the Magical Swordsman". Yuga comments that it's not bad, angering Romin with his pandering again (her anger is cut from the dub) but Kaizo pops up to tell Romin that she can Set her Spell and Trap Cards too. Romin remembers that in Rush Duels she can draw until she has five cards in her hand when she begins her turn, so it's better to play them face-down (while Gavin drags Luke away from her guitar case in the background). She Sets the two cards, ending her turn, and looks over to see Luke struggling against Gavin and asks what they are doing. Gavin and Luke quickly act nonchalant as Gavin declares that now it's Yuga's turn (in the dub Gavin claims they're stretching).

Yuga quickly assembles three monsters, including "Sevens Road Magician".

Yuga sighs in exasperation, but he declares his turn and draws, before Summoning "Mystic Dealer", "Shining Shaman", and "Cyc the Child of Wind". Then he Tributes "Shining Shaman" and "Cyc" to Tribute Summon, chanting "A wall, a mountain, not even a planet can block my way! Nothing will stop my road to victory! Let's go! Sevens Road Magician!" Kaizo yelps in fear and hides behind Romin, crying that "Sevens Road" is here, but Yuga isn't done yet and he Summons "Spell Archer". Gavin and Luke are impressed, while Romin reacts in fear. Yuga then sends the top card of his Deck to his Graveyard to activate the effect of "Sevens Road", increasing its ATK by 300 for each different Attribute in his Graveyard. He has the LIGHT "Shining Shaman" and WIND "Cyc" in his Graveyard (having milled "Wind Spirit's Protection") and declares "Elemental Road". Luke cheers that Yuga immediately used the effect (in the dub he tells Romin she'd better watch out) and Gavin comments that it's just like always. "Sevens Road Magician" powers up to 2700 ATK, and then attacks "Ansler" and destroys it, reducing Romin to 3300 LP. Kaizo freaks, and Gavin gasps that now Romin doesn't have any monsters on the field to protect her, while Yuga still has two monsters who can attack. Romin asks Kaizo if she can't use the cards she Set earlier, but Kaizo sheepishly tells her that she can only use Trap Cards during her opponent's turn; Spell Cards can only be used during Romin's turns. Yuga attacks directly with "Mystic Dealer", who barrages Romin with cards and reduces her to 2300 LP, then with "Spell Archer", who fires an energy arrow at Romin as Kaizo frets, reducing Romin to 1300 LP. Yuga ends his turn, and the ATK of "Sevens Road" returns to normal. As Kaizo worries over Romin, Gavin gasps that Romin's LP suddenly decreased to 1300, and Luke comments that consecutive direct attacks are always painful (in the dub he claims the Duel is almost over). He then realizes that it won't buy him any time, and he tiptoes for Romin's guitar case again, but Gavin snatches him back. Kaizo berates Yuga since this is Romin's first Duel, and Yuga protests that he can't go easy on her even if it is (in the dub he further explains it means he wouldn't be taking her seriously). Besides, the Duel has just begun and a Rush Duel has a chance for a comeback no matter the situation. Romin looks at the only card in her hand, "Prima Guitarna the Shining Superstar", thinking that she'll have a chance to turn the Duel around if she can Tribute Summon her on her next turn, but she needs two Tributes.

Romin finally Tribute Summons "Prima Guitarna the Shining Superstar".

Reflecting that she can draw four cards this time, Romin declares her turn and draws. She's drawn "Shining Shaman", "Straynge Cat", "Magical Beast Wolfang" and "Dark Sorcerer" and she cheers that she did it, Summoning "Straynge Cat", "Shining Shaman" and "Magical Beast Wolfang". Then she Tributes "Straynge Cat" and "Shining Shaman" to Tribute Summon, chanting "Are you ready to get amped up? 'Cause here to rock the stage is Level 7 Prima Guitarna the Shining Superstar!" "Prima Guitarna" appears with 2200 ATK, and Luke is amazed, asking if Yuga put that monster in Romin's Deck. But Yuga didn't put it in and is just as surprised as Luke is to see it. Romin clarifies that it's her card, and Gavin and Luke are impressed. Yuga cheers that he knew that Romin had such an awesome card, and Romin explains that she got it at the live show of Princess G, a guitarist that she really admired. She remembers being at the show, where the guitarist (who used a similar guitar to Romin's) cheered that the excitement was greater the larger the audience and held up "Prima Guitarna". As the audience asked what it was, noting that Princess G was also a first-rate Duelist. She told them that she could always put on the best performance because of them and thanked them from the bottom of her heart, kissing "Prima Guitarna" and telling them to catch her soul. She threw the card into the crowd, and Romin was the one who caught it, much to her joy. She states that she didn't have any interest in Dueling, so she kept the card in her guitar case as a good luck charm.

"Prima Guitarna" uses her "Rockin' Refrain" effect.

Luke is surprised, and Gavin asks if that's why Romin is so protective of her guitar case. With Gavin caught off-guard, Luke runs over and opens the case, only to see a guitar as Gavin begs him not to. A nonplussed Romin points out that there's obviously a guitar inside a guitar case, and Luke keels over in embarrassment. Romin claims that this was why she thought of trying her card out and she asks if they can continue. Yuga states that of course they can, so Romin Summons "Dark Sorcerer". Luke declares that all the monsters are here, and Romin declares that "Prima Guitarna" uses up her life to bring the greatest musical performance (in the dub she claims "Prima Guitarna" performs her best in front of a crowd). She pays 1000 LP to activate its effect, bringing her down to 300 LP, and Gavin is shocked by the cost, while Luke wonders what kind of effect it is. "Prima Guitarna" strums her guitar as Romin explains that her effect will increase the ATK of all monsters she controls by 300 for each monster her opponent controls until the end of the turn. Gavin is shocked at the power of the effect, as Luke calculates that all of Romin's monsters will gain 900 ATK. Romin declares that she'll have them listen to her greatest riff, declaring "Rockin' Refrain" as "Prima Guitarna" delivers a blistering guitar riff, surrounding "Dark Sorcerer" and "Wolfang" with musical notes and lines as they rise to 2400 and 2000 ATK respectively. Yuga freaks out as Luke and Gavin scoot behind him and Romin declares that she'll return the favor from earlier, suggesting that "Prima Guitarna", who rises to 3100 ATK, show "Sevens Road" one of her songs. "Prima Guitarna" unleashes a strum of music as it attacks with "Melodic Maelstrom", engulfing "Sevens Road Magician" in music and destroying it, reducing Yuga to 3000 LP as he cries his monster's name. Luke and Gavin gasp that Yuga's ace monster was defeated, and Romin comments that being patient paid off as Kaizo cheers for her. She attacks "Mystic Dealer" with "Dark Sorcerer", destroying it and reducing Yuga to 1600 LP. Romin warns Yuga that it's not over yet, attacking with "Magical Beast Wolfang" and destroying "Spell Archer", reducing Yuga to 600 LP as he gasps in shock. Romin ends her turn, and her monsters' ATK return to normal; Romin asks Yuga how it feels to be on the receiving end of a comeback. Yuga stammers that it's the most exciting thing about Rush Dueling and he laughs nervously (in the dub he asks if he can "come back" to that later). Gavin tells him that it's no laughing matter, but Luke comments that Yuga is probably just acting given how much he is sweating (in the dub Gavin tells him to focus on gameplay instead of wordplay and Luke reassures Yuga he's got this).

Yuga draws a card after returning "Sevens Road Magician" to his Deck, hoping for his ace monster to come.

Yuga stammers that there's always a chance for a comeback, and he nervously declares his turn and draws. Gavin and Luke peek at his hand, and they gasp in shock; Yuga's drawn "Recovery Force", "Pierce!", "Curtain of Sparks", "Magical Beast Wolfang" and "Straynge Cat". Gavin notes that Romin only has 300 LP, so Yuga can win if he just inflicts some damage, but trails off as he notes the 0 and 1100 ATK of "Straynge Cat" and "Wolfang", and Luke agrees that it's impossible. Romin's monsters all have higher ATK, so even if Yuga Summons several monsters he won't be able to deal her any damage. Kaizo floats over and asks if Yuga saw that; calling him a moron and telling him that he will definitely lose and to reflect upon his foolishness in the depths of hell (in the dub he claims Yuga should have changed his difficulty settings, as it seems as though Romin is playing on easy mode) much to Yuga's displeasure. Yuga gets steamed, but then he realizes what he can do and he asks if they're sure about that, much to Romin and Kaizo's shock. Yuga activates the Spell Card "Recovery Force", returning three Spellcaster monsters from his Graveyard to his Deck to draw a card. Luke and Gavin realize what Yuga is planning to do, and Yuga returns "Shining Shaman", "Spell Archer" and "Sevens Road Magician" to his Deck, which opens and auto-shuffles. Gavin gasps that "Sevens Road" is back in Yuga's Deck now, and Luke notes that Yuga can turn the situation around if he can re-draw his ace monster, but will he be able to? Yuga tells his ace to come to him, and he draws his card.

Romin is defeated.

He has indeed drawn "Sevens Road", and Gavin cheers that it's his ace. Luke is impressed that Yuga actually drew "Sevens Road" and Yuga grins, while Kaizo freaks and Romin protests that she just defeated it (in the dub she asks how Yuga could get so lucky). Yuga Summons two monsters, "Straynge Cat" and "Magical Beast Wolfang", and then he Tributes them to Tribute Summon "Sevens Road Magician" again. He activates its effect, and Gavin and Luke cheer "Elemental Road" (in the dub they explain the effect) with Yuga as he sends a card from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard. Yuga counts the Attributes in his Graveyard; EARTH, WATER, WIND, FIRE and DARK, giving "Sevens Road" 1500 ATK and bringing it up to 3600 ATK. Yuga attacks "Prima Guitarna" with "Sevens Road Magician", declaring "Sevens Magic Attack". "Prima Guitarna" is destroyed by the magic blast, and Romin's LP drops to zero as Kaizo is blown away.

A mysterious boy smiles as he looks at Romin's photos of Yuga.

The holographic dome fades, and Yuga cheers that he won. Kaizo, embedded in a nearby wall, says Romin's name sadly (in the dub he apologizes), and Romin looks away in disappointment. Gavin and Luke come over to her, Gavin noting that the effect of "Prima Guitarna" to increase her monsters' power the more monsters her opponent has is quite strong (in the dub, he tells her she played "Prima Guitarna" like a pro for someone who doesn't like Dueling) much to Romin's surprise. Luke notes that Yuga would have lost if he hadn't drawn "Sevens Road", but Yuga denies it, claiming that no matter if there's only a small possibility one should always bet on it and carve a road through to victory. But Kaizo interrupts Yuga to praise Romin, much to Yuga's irritation. Gavin points out that Yuga didn't really have to use "Elemental Road", and Luke adds that he could have won by attacking "Dark Sorcerer" or "Wolfang" (in the dub, they both state that Romin did well). Yuga replies that an ace should fight an ace, and when one sees full power they should respond in kind (in the dub he claims it doesn't matter since they all had fun). Gavin then drags Luke away (claiming they need to tie their shoes in the dub) telling him that his theory that Romin was working for Goha was a bunch of nonsense and Luke agrees to drop it for now (in the dub Luke claims he have zero to no regrets). As Romin walks back to her guitar case and removes her Duel Disk, Yuga asks if Romin always wanted to Duel, much to her surprise. He explains that she seemed like she had a lot of fun when she Tribute Summoned "Prima Guitarna", but Romin claims that she only thought of trying that because they were Dueling and she tells Yuga not to get the wrong idea. She shoulders her guitar case and holds up "Prima Guitarna", admitting that Rush Duels are a lot of fun. Yuga smiles, and then he takes out his tools, much to Kaizo's nervousness. Luke and Gavin look up to see nuts and bolts flying everywhere as Yuga tinkers with Kaizo, who asks why Yuga is pushing the reset button and begs him to wait before fading out as the camera shows a closeup on the "RoaRomin" label on Romin's guitar case...

That night in a tall apartment building, a green-haired boy flicks through Romin's photos of Yuga and his Duel Disk on his smartphone, whispering "Yuga Ohdo and Rush Duels..." before smiling (in the dub he adds "How fun...")
