The Eye of Wdjat in its two forms; with and without the teardrop and tail

The Eye of Wdjat (see spelling variations), and also called the Eye of Anubis by Upper Deck Entertainment, is an ancient Egyptian symbol, appearing various times throughout Yu-Gi-Oh! media. In Egyptian mythology, Wdjat was the protector of Lower Egypt, and the eye symbol used by her was slightly altered to create the Eye of Horus and later the Eye of Ra.

The symbol has two forms; one featuring an eye, teardrop and tail and one featuring just an eye.

Different spellings have been used across different mediums:

Manga

The Eye of Wdjat appeared on Yugi's forehead when he solved the Millennium Puzzle.[1] It often appears on Dark Yugi's forehead after he takes control of Yugi or inflicts a Penalty Game.

The die used in the dice game Shadow Game had the eye on its 1 face.[2]

Toei

In the Toei anime, the Eye of Wdjat appeared on Dark Yugi's shadow, after Yugi Mutou complete the Millennium Puzzle.[3]

Anime

During Joey Wheeler's Duel against Johnson, he played a card which involves flipping a coin, and one of the sides had the Eye on it.[4]

The "Dark Magician Girl" Summoned by Mana and featured in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX has an Eye of Anubis replacing her hexagram jewel (red jewel in the dub), distinguishing her from the card.

OCG/TCG

Cards from Series 2 onward have an Eye of Anubis Hologram in the lower right-hand corner, featuring the incomplete Eye of Wdjat.

Several cards feature the symbol in their illustration, including "A Man with Wdjat", "Millennium Scorpion", "Relinkuriboh" and many cards that were used by Marik Ishtar and his siblings. It is also prominently featured in the artwork of Illusion monsters.

The Millennium Puzzle is the only Millennium Item that has the entire Eye of Wdjat on it.

The Eye of Wdjat appeared on the door to the afterlife in the Shrine of the Underworld. After the Rite of the Duel, Atem spoke his name to the Eye of Wdjat, causing the door to open.

Anime

The "With The Wind" opening of Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS briefly features a digital version of the eye.
