Is there something like <span class="sysop-show" /> that causes text to only be displayed for users with accounts? Or is it at least possible to add something like that? -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:55, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

It's possible by adapting the "For sysops" test in MediaWiki:Common.js; the following code should do it (allowing appropriate styles to be placed in MediaWiki:User.css):

Hey Dinoguy1000! What's up? Long time no see mate. It's Montechristo95. Left a message to see how you are doing and also ask a couple of questions. I take it that you are aware of the new skin Wikia has set as default?...

Well to tell the truth, I didn't really like it. I believe it has flaws. But that's not really the point. As I said, I hate the new wikia skin and I also got really sick and tired of Monaco. Soooooooooo, what's left for me to pick?

You guessed it correctly! Monobook! Simplicity over everything mate; I enjoy contributing via it and I'm planning to stick with it. But, there is a problem. As you probably already know, Monaco has a "Create a new page" option in its sidebar. I searched everywhere for the Monobook counterpart but nothing!

It is supposed to be in the Toolbox section, isn't it? Anyway, I paid a visit to the MediaWiki:Monobook.css and tried to customise my css but no luck.

So, I was wondering if you could give me some instructions on how to do it. Honestly, I have no clue. THANKS.

Btw mate, do you know abt Userboxes? It's a pretty well spread fashion. Besides Wikipedia, there are other wikis in Wikia that have a set template for their contributors. HOWEVER, this one doesn't. It's not necessarily a flaw; I suppose nobody is interested in creating a few...

EXCEPT FOR ME! I did create a few. I copied the code and y'know. Anyway, do you think an admin (for instance you?...) could create a set template just in case one wants to create UBXs? Just throwing an idea.

I guess I have to agree with MC friend of mine. This kind of skin lacked something in this page that other does have; History. Yea, User Talk Page don't have History to show what happened. I am little furious of trying to put in Unsigned Link when there were no History around to do so. The new skin is more bearable if you use the tools option. You can add a link to the history of whatever page you're currently visiting to it. It will work from any page, and take you to that page's history. Cheesedude (talk • contribs) 20:16, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Yep, I am painfully aware of the new skin, having eagerly registered to become a beta tester only to have all my anticipation dashed upon actually getting to try it. Once they take away Monaco, it'll be back to Monobook for me too (I just wish they'd see fit to replace Monobook with Vector; something tells me that'd be far more palatable to most users than this "Oasis" crap they're shoving down our throats =P ). If you are currently using the Monobook skin, could you tell me if Special:CreatePage works on it, and if how it works is any different from on the Monaco skin? You probably won't be able to add a link to it via CSS; it'll have to be added to MediaWiki:Sidebar, or possibly to MediaWiki:Monobook.js (I never have been very clear on where you can go to edit the Monobook sidebar toolbox links).

In Monobook, when I want to start a new page, I usually follow a red link or change the end of the url to the page name and click create. If there isn't a red link to it on the page I'm on, I enter the name of the page into the searchbar, then there's a red link at the top of the page after "You searched for". I don't think I've ever used Special:CreatePage in any skin. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:33, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

@Deltaneos Man, doing all this in order to create sth sucks! Can a change be made to the general Monobook skin for this Wiki, in other words doing what Dinoguy1000 suggested, or there is no way around it?

@Dinoguy1000 See you share the same op. Is Monaco going to be taken down at the scheduled time or are they going to wait before the flaws in Oasis are corrected? And regarding UBXs, yeah I saw your collection. You are obsessed with them, same as me. Based on their track record with the current skin, I'd wager there's some of them wanting to take Monaco offline ahead of schedule - there's no chance of it being pushed back, at any rate. As for creating articles, it's really not so much work using redlinks, since more often than not you'll be clicking redlinks which already existed, and even if they didn't, it's really not hard to link them in the course of other edits. 「ダイノガイ千？！」^{? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000} 11:28, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

The toolbox seems like the best place to put it, but there's nothing listed on Special:Allmessages that lets us edit that.

The next best place would be the sidebar, which would bring us back to here for a third skin. I think we should remove the random namespace links to clear up some space. It doesn't contain all the content namespaces and if it did, it would be too long. Special:Random used to only land on the main namespace, now it lands on any content namespace, so the custom ones aren't being left out. I don't know, do many users even bother with the extra random links?

Regarding using Monaco, if you have it selected as your default skin in your preferences, I think you'll still be able to use it after the 3rd of November, but if you switch to one of the other skins you won't be able to switch back. Some people are still even using the Quartz skin. However they do plan on removing both Monaco and Quartz outright not too long after Monaco is removed from Special:Preferences. -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:36, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

@Dinoguy1000 Special:CreatePage does work in Mono as well, same way it does for Monaco. Sorry you had to ask the same question twice, just failed to notice it.

@Deltaneos If I understand your message correctly, you are saying that it would be wise to remove the "Random" sector from the sidebar; to that I agree. In fact, I have always be wondering what on Earth it's good for. As for Monaco, like I said above, I got bored of it. I'm not really going to miss it. But I found a temporary solution for my problem. Monobook has a "Monaco View" option. Via it I'm going to be able to get to the "Create page" auto link faster than I would with red links. Although, I have no idea what will happen when Monaco is taken offline. Hmm, I guess I should explore Oasis a bit better... --Montechristo95 ^{talk • count} 12:13, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Well, as I said in my first reply (but not in so many words), since there doesn't seem to be any interface message allowing customization of the Monobook toolbar, we are left with adding the link programmatically via MediaWiki:Monobook.js.
