about "Template:Four Elements"

Should we add "E-hero" Electrum's Fusion-Materials on the "Template:Four Elements".--Wasn't (talkcontribs) 00:47, May 12, 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure; that seems to be the strongest tie between the four of them (they don't have the same Level, ATK, or DEF, and Bubbleman is an Effect Monster whereas the other three are Normal Monsters), which isn't really much, needless to say... Maybe Delt has an opinion on it, though? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:06, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
I only I meant it as his Fusion-materials since they're all 4 Attributes.--Wasn't (talkcontribs) 02:12, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I got that. ;) I was saying that that seems to be the only significant tie between the four, though, so it doesn't seem (to me, at least) enough to label them as a "Four Elements" group. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:16, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
One more thing, He also supports 4 Attributes and also be treated as them.--Wasn't (talkcontribs) 02:29, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
It still doesn't make for a terribly strong case IMO, but like I said before, maybe Delt will have an opinion on it. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:32, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
I get it, but whose "Delt"?--Wasn't (talkcontribs) 02:45, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
Delt ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:56, May 12, 2011 (UTC)
I forgot to tell you I put "Itsu" monster's on 4 attributes. But I don't know what to write about them.--Wasn't (talkcontribs) 22:09, May 18, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I saw that. I'm really not sure what to write either, but a brief (even just 1-sentence) summary would be a good start, I think. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:31, May 18, 2011 (UTC)
I wrote a few sentences about "Itsus": Relations, Appearing on cards, "...". I'm not sure if that.--Wasn't (talkcontribs) 02:32, June 7, 2011 (UTC)
It's better than nothing, I think. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:47, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

? cards I listed all have "ス" in Jap "Kana". They're all pronounced as "S" not "TH"

I found two cards that have "su"(ス) in its name: "Clear Vice Dragon", "Neos"◄(ネオ(ス)), "Elemental Hero Plasma Vice"◄(マン= man), "Vice Berserker"◄(バイ(ス)), and "Vice Dragon". "su" is "s" not "th".--Wasn't (talkcontribs) 02:06, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

You can find quite a few more cards by sifting through a Google search for site:yugioh.wikia.com ス. And it isn't actually pronounced as "s", but as "su" (the only mora in Japanese that doesn't have a vowel sound would be ン, pronounced "n") - see wiktionary:ス. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 09:15, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

Had to share this with someone

I just spent a half hour trying to figure out what I had screwed up when renaming some files at Card Gallery:Elemental HERO Thunder Giant, since two images were not showing up. Turns out the images weren't there to begin with, but someone put them there as placeholders. That worked fine when blank images displayed there, but now nothing displays. I am beyond pissed right now. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:53, June 3, 2011 (UTC)

No kidding; it really doesn't look at this point like Wikia is going to fix galleries not displaying placeholders for images that haven't been uploaded yet. =P ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:57, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
And the 'Add an image to this gallery' button is unnecessary. 1) (I think) it's the source of those resized images of the images we already have; then they are deleted 2) It doesn't display a notice; the Image Policy one at Special:Upload. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:04, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
I noticed that button. With all these crap features, it's almost like Wikia is trying to get us to leave. =/ ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:06, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Aren't we allowed to edit the global js pages to hide or display minor things like these by default? -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:09, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
I think we'd have to ask Wikia about that. I'd rather not get in trouble if it turns out to be like picture attribution back before they relented on that. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:37, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
You can add hideaddbutton=true to the <gallery> tag to surpress the button. I only see the button used by people who end up making a mess of the gallery. e.g. trying to add an English gallery by clicking the button in the Japanese gallery. They can learn a lot more from seeing the edit page source. -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:52, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Is that something we have to do from now on, adding hideaddbutton=true to every gallery? Wilimut TalkMail Paris, 11:57, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
I certainly hope not. We should ask Wikia if we can suppress the button's display through CSS before running around and adding that to all the galleries (and with any luck, not only will they say "yes", but they'll have a way to shut the feature off for us server-side, so the button never even gets added to the page in the first place). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:17, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

Synced pages

When you change any of the pages that are synced from Animepedia remember to list "yugioh" as an exclusion on the Animepedia version or make the changes there too if necessary. Otherwise AnimeBot could overwrite your changes in the future. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:29, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

All right, thanks for the pointer. I never remember that, so a reminder definitely helps. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:30, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

Barely touched RFAs

Project:Requests for adminship/NOT FrogtheJam/1 and Project:Requests for adminship/BobaFett2/1 have been open for a while without much comments. Have you anything to add before they're closed? -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:55, June 4, 2011 (UTC)

I have responded to BobaFett's, but didn't to Frog's, so thanks for draw my attention and I post my respond to latter's. I actually opposed to both, due to their bad experience (Boba's from early argue and fighting, Frog's under your state) --FredCat 21:44, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Not likely (though I'll have a look in a minute just to be sure)... There was a reason I never participated in RFAs on Wikipedia; to be honest, it's not the type of work I enjoy and I'm not generally well-suited to it. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:51, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
At least just post your name in either Support or Oppose - it's not like it would bite you just for a pick. Comment really don't required there. --FredCat 21:57, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
RFAs aren't really something that can be handled with a simple "support"/"oppose", though; especially for "oppose" !votes, you should leave some reasoning wo the candidate understands why you're opposing (and, hopefully, is able to use it to improve as an editor). Sometimes I don't really have much trouble coming up with my own reasoning, but most of the time it's a struggle for me to find something to say that isn't simply a rehash of someone else's !vote. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:02, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
I see, but what up with "!" along the vote? --FredCat 22:03, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Another habit from my days on Wikipedia. Wikipedians (and, more generally, Wikimedians) subscribe to the philosophy that voting is evil, so stuff like RFAs and deletion discussions are not referred to as "votes". At the same time, though, "comment" doesn't really adequately describe when an editor supports or opposes in such discussions, so the terminology "!vote" came to be used instead - it is meant to be read "not vote" or "not-vote" (see also wikipedia:Wikipedia:Glossary#!vote). ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:42, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Quite an interesting way to slang the decline vote. Guess I would just stop pecking on your head for now, on this vote shit. --FredCat 22:48, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Just to be clear, !vote is used to describe opposes and supports, not just one or the other. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:53, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
Oh whatever... --FredCat 22:54, June 4, 2011 (UTC)
That's okay. It just feels weird closing a request that I'm the only one to have commented on. -- Deltaneos (talk) 01:58, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't blame you there. Maybe it'd help to advertise ongoing RFAs somehow? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:31, June 5, 2011 (UTC)
Er, honor Admin... you're not only one anymore, as I was able to comment there. --FredCat 10:39, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Hey

Check out my Talk Page, I had a thought and decided to change the "Notes", since of Silver Glaceon (talk contribs) changed her own archive note. Archsupport in CardTable2

Could you add a sixth parameter for that? If a card supports all HEROes, it should be listed as such with "HERO" and all five sub-archetypes. I attempted to add it earlier today, but screwed it up in some way I can't figure out, then rollbacked by own edits. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 04:21, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

I saw that; you forgot a pair of opening braces (an easy enough mistake ;) ). Should be done now. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:28, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Template problems

What happened to some templates? If you look at any card gallery, the box titles always indicate something like that: and on Set pages, the cover cards, set name etc doesn't work properly since a few hours. Wilimut TalkMail Paris, 08:33, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

SMW and Negref are both down. I suspect I may have had a hand in this, as it follows from some extreme slowness the wiki experienced pretty much immediately after I made an edit to CardTable2 (I suspect I actually enjoy causing such trouble =D ). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:51, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

Template:CardTable2

Try to avoid using switches if at all possible please. Switches + SMW equal really, really bad performance that threatens the wiki and network health. Can what you wish to be done occur without switch statements? It looked like it was working fine with just ifs? --daNASCAT http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 20:56, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

I've been wondering how long it would take me to finally do something to get Wikia techs on my ass. =D I could replicate exactly what I was doing with #switches, using only #ifs, but it wouldn't be pretty. On the other hand, I'd have no problem for now, keeping to the older #if style until this problem can be fixed (and on that note, I'm curious as to just what unfortunate coding idiosyncrasy causes SMW being used in #switch outputs to cause fatal timeouts (is it some bug with SMW, ParserFunctions, or both? is it some weird PHP/MySQL thing? do I even have any idea what I'm talking about? =3 )). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:12, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
And, on a related note, now I know how to take down Wikia if I ever start feeling particularly sociopathic... >=D ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:28, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
The switch parameter I believe is counted as an "expensive" parser function where as if is not. By itself, it's not great but it's not bad either until you start throwing DPL/SMW/Data, etc., etc,. on top of it. Part of the issue is the way we're caching queries, which is something we're going to try experimenting with in a few weeks. --daNASCAT http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 14:55, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
Hmm, I never would have thought #switch would be considered an expensive function... Here's hoping the caching experiments pan out, then. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:05, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

Blank kanji parameter tracking?

Is there a way to create a tracking category for card pages that have a "kanji" parameter that is blank? There are several pages like that I created, and was unable to find the kanji anywhere. I didn't feel like sitting there and finding each individual character from another card page, so I left them blank. I'd like to be able to request that someone add the kanji in, but I'd like to do it all at once. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 01:08, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, that's easy enough to do. I've actually been thinking for a while about adding a tracking category for cards that don't have any Japanese name given at all; I think we'd be best with tracking categories for no Japanese name, blank "kanji", "kana", "jpname", and "phon" parameters, and a Japanese name but no romaji name (romaji name without Japanese name should be covered by the first one, I think). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:03, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
In addition to the name, can we have a tracking category for "japlore" as well? Blackwings0605 (talk) 06:39, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, definitely; that's one thing I've been intending to do for quite some time. I've never liked the parameter name, and intend to replace all instances of it with "jplore" (if no one beats me to it) and then remove it from CardTable2. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:23, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
Yes. "jplore" is definitely make more sense than the "japlore". Blackwings0605 (talk) 07:40, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
That, and I've never liked the abbreviation "jap" for "Japan[ese]", considering it was an (albeit mild) derogatory term used during WWII (AFAIK; that's how it's always seemed to me, at least). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:45, June 9, 2011 (UTC)

Aah, you mean this edit... We really need to be able to automate the "Not Yet Released" value of the ocg/tcg parameters, so that 80-some-odd cards don't have to be updated four different times (only three if the card is introduced in the set, and thus is created with "ocg = Not Yet Released", if the creator knows to add that) specifically for that purpose (all that being said, I don't see any good way to do so). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 15:41, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

Deleting revisions

Deleting and selective restoring pages can cause the number of page views to reset and can't be undone. I suppose it doesn't matter too much for less popular articles like that, but for articles with a high number of page views, it might be better to request a RevisionDelete. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:05, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

Or better yet, to just campaign for it to be enabled on this wiki (unless, of course, that's exactly what you meant). Actually, we really ought to have it enabled here anyways. As for resetting page views... meh, does it really matter all that much? I'm not saying we shouldn't be at least a bit worried about it, but it won't stop me from deleting a page to remove some particularly egregious vandalism from its history. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:48, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

Another tracking parameter question

Would it be possible to create one that lists pages that use any of the anime/manga appearances templates, but that do not have an associated Card Appearances page? Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:37, June 18, 2011 (UTC)

Not currently (it is possible, but would first require a modification to ). On the other hand, it *would* be trivial to do the same check for the anime/manga appearances parameters, though. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:34, June 18, 2011 (UTC)
Would changing the template mean having to change it on every page again? As for the parameters themselves, that doesn't particularly help me, to be honest. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 05:57, June 18, 2011 (UTC)
No, it would just be adding an invisible bit to the output (some class name or something; I'll have to do a bit of thinking on what the best thing to add would be) that CardTable2 can then check for. I'll probably do this anyways, just so we can track pages with appearances parameters that don't use the templates yet. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:01, June 18, 2011 (UTC)
Awesome. Let me know when you get around to it. No rush, though. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 06:06, June 18, 2011 (UTC)

Grey Text

I am sure that he put it there just to be fair with all other "Dark Synchro" summon requirement. So that only "Number" monster can kill him, not original "Xyz" monsters. --FredCat 23:03, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

I don't know who put it there, or what explanation may have been offered. I'm working through my email backlog, and the diff link I clicked for Volcasaurus gave me a diff that skipped 20+ intermediate changes, including the one where the coloring was added. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:14, June 21, 2011 (UTC)
Ah well, I just give my logical of why it was there for. But I understand that you don't agree with it. --FredCat 23:22, June 21, 2011 (UTC)
See this, it also has grey sentence, so I think it's actually there just for Anime version only. As for OCG/TCG, they don't have that line, like "Dark Synchro" have transformed into Regular Synchro and keep their material/effect with slightly changes. --FredCat 23:54, June 21, 2011 (UTC)
I didn't say I don't agree with it, merely that I don't know who added it or what reasoning they may have offered. ;) I also knew already that it was an anime-only effect (though it's not quite analogous to Synchros vs. Dark Synchros). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:57, June 21, 2011 (UTC)

Cardtable for another wiki

I dont usually visit here, but its something I've kinda needed for a while now.

While the wiki isn't quite as big as this one (Then again, most are'nt...), I have needed to experiment with changing the current table for a while now. While at times I have added new categories and such to it and expanded bits and pieces...I was never quite about to figure out how to force an image re-size on it.

While the wiki already uses a random assortment of images for card sizes...I try to get them around a certain area.

So basically my question was that if you had the time if you could take a look at Duel Masters CardTable2 and see if there was anything quick you would add to it.

Based on edits to the yu-gi-oh table, you seemed to be the guy to ask. Deltaneos had previously helped me to build the current table back in 08. Thanks for your time.Yami Michael (talkcontribs) 15:55, June 24, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Yami Michael, I've actually seen that table before. ;)
The simplest way would be to change {{#if: {} | | }} to {{#if: {} | | }}.
If, however, you want to cap the width at a certain value, you'll need somewhat more complicated code: {{ #if: {} | {{ #ifexpr: {width} < ### | {width} | ### }} | ### }}.
And, if you want to catch bad values of "width", it gets a bit more complicated: {{ #if: {} | {{ #iferror: {{ #expr: +{width} | ### | {{ #ifexpr: {width} < ### | {width} | ### }} }} | ### }} (in all this code, keep in mind that you'll be replacing "###" with the width you want as default).
Hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you don't understand something or need more help! =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:22, June 24, 2011 (UTC)
Ill obviously having to keep testing it on different types of cards, but as stands it right now, the first simple fix seems to be handling the cards, without them seeming too blurry/stretched. Thanks for the help, much appreciated. Yami Michael (talkcontribs) 17:31, June 24, 2011 (UTC)
