Bakugan card template?

I was wondering if you could possibly help with another card template?

"um ... let's see ... we could have the card color, the attribute bonuses, the power level, the text on the card, and the card serial number" I'll fill you in on the one's you most likely don't know.
  • Card color: Red Blue or Green for the ability set, and Gold Bronze and Silver for the Gates.
  • Attribute bonuses: Six, name/color Pyrus/red, Aquos/blue, Subterra/Brown, Haos/White, Darkus/Blackish Purple, Ventus/Green.
  • Power level. 1-3.
Sorry if this is asking alot. Abce2|Talk 'Other things" 01:25, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

Template:Rename and Template:Rename media

I can't remember if there was any significant reason why these were given separate templates, given they can easily be merged with an ifeq {{NAMESPACE}}. Do you know of any reason or do you think we should merge them? -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:02, July 7, 2011 (UTC)

Not really; you were the one who created them both, so I just assumed that you had a good reason for it. ;) As for the merge itself, it could pretty easily be done as you say, but it won't be terribly elegant (unless I'm not seeing just how you're suggesting it be done ;) ); this shouldn't keep us from doing the merge, though, since I can look at doing a more graceful code merge any time. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:46, July 8, 2011 (UTC)

CardTable2 in appearances pages.

Since we have the anime/manga lore parameters open by default in card articles now, I'd like to go ahead and remove all the CardTable2 transclusions from the Card Appearances pages. Any way you can create a tracking category or do some other wiki magic I have no knowledge of to make a list? Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 05:37, July 8, 2011 (UTC)

Need a little Housekeeping done.

Contributer is User:Macdaddyc

He started uploading batches of images with the filenames being just a string of numbers. I have already marked those files to be Merged with the proper files but cannot do that part myself (Merge is just my suggestion, if you feel deletion is proper course of action then go for it) He also needs to be sent to the corner to review the Image Naming Policies as he was also editing the YS11 Gallery to point to those files which would make it significantly harder for someone to find the proper file to update to. (That has also been corrected.)

  • Additionally, This contributer has been around long enough to be more than aquainted with the image naming policies.
  • I originally was going to send this to User:Bluedog187 since he has dealt with this contributer in the past but I noticed he is currently inactive just in time.
  • BTW why does the system treat .jpg files as different from .JPG files (and I assume .png from .PNG)

Glittersword TalkContributions 00:16, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Hey Glittersword, it would be better to use {{Rename media}} or {{OCG-TCG card image}} when tagging images to be renamed (currently, none of the suggested names have the "File:" prefix, so it's a bit harder to check for existing images). I'll try to have a look at these in the next few days, if no one else gets to them first. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:09, July 21, 2011 (UTC)
That might be so but I believe with the merge option he would still have credit for his contribution. With rename it would say that the page is already existing and I would think it would overwrite the history. Sorry I didn't think about adding in the "File:" portion I assumed that would be taken care of automatically like when the files are created to begin with. I will keep the OCG-TCG card image tag in mind in the future. Although I might not have considered it applicable since it wasn't going FROM a OCG name but I see now how it would have worked. Glittersword TalkContributions 16:33, July 21, 2011 (UTC)
Renaming files always keeps their history; if there's already a file uploaded with the suggested file name, though, both files have to be reviewed to see if one is a duplicate or higher-quality or what-have-you, rather than just blindly moving the tagged file over the original.
{{Merge}} is meant to be used only on articles and such, not files, so it doesn't have any functionality to add a "File:" prefix when used on files. I'll probably fix that, though, since there may well be legitimate cases for merging files...
The "OCG-TCG" is just meant to show that the template is used for both OCG and TCG cards; it's not meant to imply anything about moving OCG images to TCG names or anything of the sort. ;) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:51, July 21, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for the clairfication, Would you mind giving me a bit of a walkthrough on how to make personal deck lists the proper way? I'm new to having an account although I have used YuGiOh wikia alot in the past.

Well, I don't do much with decks myself on here, but generally, you'll want to use {{Decklist}} for listing the cards in a deck; usage instructions can be found by following that link. If you're looking for opinions or improvement suggestions on decks, it's generally best to post them in Forum:Yu-Gi-Oh! Galleries

Hey there, nice to finally get to chat with you. Yeah your idea for streamlining the galleries with your design in your boilerplate would be wonderful. A question I have is how does it read in the info like card name, rarity, alt. name, etc. for the gallery. Would it read it from an existing list or from the card's specific page it self? Keep me informed on your progress! ^-^ Look234 (talkcontribs) 17:44, July 23, 2011 (UTC)

I was wondering if something would be possible.

Is there a way for the gallery page for a card to be auto-created by the system using the information on the main mage and kept updated by the system? Sort of like triggering a bot for the page creation that looks at the info on the main page to extrapolate the proper file names to be used. Glittersword TalkContributions 21:34, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, no, the Gallery extension doesn't work with wikimarkup in any way that would let us do so (and we currently don't put cards' set information into SMW properties, though that is definitely something I'm wanting to change). On the other hand, it may be possible to write a bot that could create Card Gallery pages, though that's well beyond my capabilities at this time. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:10, July 24, 2011 (UTC)
It just seems to that the more mundane and repetitive aspects that we can automate the better. It would make things more consistent and less error prone. Sure some of the more COMPLICATED cards might need a little personal intervention after the fact (After all this game seems to be expanding in seven directions at once sometimes.) we need to get and keep the actual skeleton under tight control. For example some gallery pages I know don't work anymore because they were created with an old Gallery format. Gallery changed but weeding out all of those old galleries is going to be a pain by hand. When we think they are all done one more will raise it's sneaky haid from out of its hidy-hole. Glittersword TalkContributions 15:55, July 25, 2011 (UTC)
Believe me, I understand your reasoning for making the request; it's something I've thought about myself before. =) As I said above, though, with the way the software is currently designed, it would require a bot be programmed to do the work, and that is beyond my current skill level. =( ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:25, July 25, 2011 (UTC)
Do we have anyone in-house with the skills or would we have to find someone from someplace like MediaWiki to help us?
Glittersword TalkContributions 16:00, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
I don't know if any of our currently-active members have the necessary skills, but Dantman (talk contribs) has historically run some fairly complicated bot tasks and is still active elsewhere on Wikia (and he does occasionally pop in here). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:44, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Missing page

"Armored Ninjitsu: Quick Teleport" has teleported off of the wiki. It was moved so many times that the actual card page appears to have vanished. Every variation of the name leads to redirect. I may just be missing the actual page, but I can't seem to find it. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 18:41, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

Which I found it oddly and amuse at same time, "Quick Teleport" just referring to it had been gone from this site. --FredCat 18:43, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
Actually I found it. Nevermind. "Armored Ninjitsu Art: Quick Teleport". Once we get an actual page name, we need to fix the double redirects. But that may not happen yet, since there seems to be debate on whether its "Ninjitsu", "Ninjutsu" "Ninja Art", "Ninja Arts" or "Ninjitsu Art". Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 18:45, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
All right, cool. Just for the record, Wiktionary claims ninjitsu to be a common misspelling of ninjutsu (this is supported by the romaji reading given on wiktionary:忍術), and if translated separately, the kanji "" and "" could indeed result in the phrase "ninja art(s)", though "ninjutsu" seems by far the more common rendering. "Ninjitsu art" is just repetitive, since "jutsu" translates to "art". ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:56, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
Mispelling or not there are already two existing cards which use "Ninjitsu", which makes me think we should be use "Ninjitsu" for these anime cards as well. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 19:12, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
And there don't seem to be any which use "ninjutsu" in their names (though there's at least one that uses that spelling in its lore). I also note that the two cards you pointed out use the repetitive "ninjitsu art". That's a pretty compelling argument in favor of using "Ninjitsu Art", though there's always the possibility that Konami will decide not to continue the trend started by UDE. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:19, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
I didn't even notice that part, actually. So then we should use "Ninjitsu Art" and use "Ninja Art" for the trans parameter. Also, keep in mind that per "Armored Ninjitsu Art: Gold Conversion", this is an archetype. Do the two existing Ninjitsu Art cards have the right kanji to be members? There's also no guarantee they'll release all these support cards. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 19:24, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good to me (I was going to argue in favor of just using "Ninjutsu" in the trans parameter, but "Ninja Art" sounds better considering the two-part names we're working with).
Yep, even the furigana matches up (between the card names, at least; it isn't clear whether Gold Conversion's effect explicitly requires certain furigana). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:44, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
It seems that Master D originally moved the articles and came to the same conclusion about what the name should be as we did. So that's all done and I created the archetype page. On a related note, maybe you can help me with the "Armored Ninjas". When I created the card articles for them, I did not add them to the "Ninja" archetype, as their names did not appear to me to contain the right characters. Apparently someone else did. I think they ARE members, considering the effects of the some of the "Ninjitsu Art" cards Yamikawa played, but I cannot figure out WHY they are members based on the characters. I would like to have that information before creating the archetype page. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 21:34, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
"Ninja" support cards call for cards with the text "にんじゃ" in their Japanese card names, meaning the "Armored Ninja" monsters receive support from these cards and are therefore also part of the "Ninja" archetype (I can't say anything on whether their association with certain characters would or would not make them thematic members of the archetype, though). The "Ninjitsu Art" cards, on the other hand, are only "Ninja" support cards, because their names do not contain "にんじゃ". ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:12, July 26, 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. To clarify, I meant "Japanese text" when I said "characters". Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:20, July 26, 2011 (UTC)

I would say maybe "File:No12ArmedNinjaCrimsonShadow-JP-ZX-NC.png"? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:19, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
Am I missing something here? How is there not a suitable name? It's a non-card image from the Japanese version of the ZEXAL anime. Since "No." is "Number:" in the TCG and we know that "Armed Ninja" is not correct, the file name should be "File:Number12ArmoredNinjaCrimsonShadow-JP-Anime-ZX-NC.png". Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 04:37, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
The main idea was, that image was not shown in the actual anime, so it shouldn't have "-Anime". -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 04:57, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

Those don't help, I am talking about things like template pages that are full of {{{{}}}} that are parsed by the system from other pages or by other pages.
For example from the GalleryHeader Template
{{IfSemantics|{{Cardname|{{ #if: {{{1|}}} | {{{1}}} | {{PAGENAME}} }}|{{ #ifeq: {{Cardname|{{ #if: {{{1|}}} | {{{1}}} | {{PAGENAME}} }}|{{{lang}}}}}||en|{{{lang}}}}}}}|{{PAGENAME}}}}</big><br/>''({{ #if: {{{set|}}} | {{{set}}} | {{ #switch: {{{lang}}}
if I can't understand where everything is coming and going from I can not Manually Parse it to see really what it is saying.
I want to start at the deepest level and work my way up. I don't want to just play around and screw things up. The problem is there are so many files and some are from other places like MediaWiki that to me it just looks like a rat's nest. What is important?, what is critical? what pages are referencing obsolete remnants? I may only have the skills right now to do maintenance issues but that doesn't mean I don't WANT to learn more.
BTW: is there any way to mark out a line as a remark so it isn't parsed?
Glittersword TalkContributions 17:00, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, our templates take advantage of lots of really advanced functionality so that we can do some really nifty things with them. =)
First and foremost, keep in mind that you can play around to your heart's content on Project:Sandbox, Template:Sandbox (create it if you want to use it ;) ), and in your own userspace; edits made to these places won't have a direct impact on any other part of the site, so you can make whatever changes you'd like to help you get the hang of things.
Next, to do much good editing most of our templates, you'll need to understand at minimum how to use ParserFunctions. We also make very heavy use of StringFunctions and Semantic MediaWiki, and you should always keep a link to mw:Help:Magic words for reference.
This all, of course, assumes that you already have a reasonable grasp on how templates and transclusion work.
This is a lot to work through, I know, but don't give up, and don't think you have to know everything - I've been at this for almost 5 years, and there's still stuff that surprises me or that I have to look up (certainly with StringFunctions and SMW, which I didn't work with until I became really active here in 2009 or so (has it really been that long? o_O ), but also with ParserFunctions and even working with template parameters and transclusion). If you need help understanding something, just ask - there's no shame in it, and maybe in the process of helping you, I can learn something myself. =)
Now, about marking lines so they're not parsed: As you probably saw me do above, one way to do so is with the <nowiki/> tag (the <pre/> tag around it is just for presentation) - this prevents anything from being parsed, and can be used on individual characters or whole pages. Another method, which I used earlier in this paragraph, is to escape individual characters using HTML character entity references - e.g. to escape a "<" (less-than sign), you would write &lt; in the page's source: "<" (if you want to instead display the actual escape code, you replace the "&" with &amp;: "&" (and yes, this means you can end up with ridiculous chains of escape codes: &amp;amp;amp;amp;lt; =D ))
After all this, if there's anything specific you need help with, just ask (yep, I already said that, but it never hurts to repeat yourself IMHO ;) ). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:18, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
(I was edit conflict'd, so some of this will be a repeat of what Dinoguy has already said.)
If you put <nowiki> before the syntax and </nowiki> after it, it won't get parsed. e.g. <nowiki>{{PAGENAME}}</nowiki> displays as "{{PAGENAME}}", not the name of the page.
If you want to get started on learning template stuff, there's a few basic things you can practice on your other wiki:
  • Adding {{Example}} to a page will transclude (almost) everything from the page "Template:Example".
  • When you use {{Example|x=Hello}}, it will transclude Template:Example and replace every instance of "{{{x}}}" with "Hello".
  • {{#if: {{{x|}}} | Text to display if "x=something" is used | Text to display if x is empty or unused }} can be put in "Template:Example". If you use {{Example|x=abc}} on another page it will display as 'Text to display if "x=something" is used' since "x=something" was used. If you use {{Example}} or {{Example|x=}} it will display as 'Text to display if x is empty or unused', since x was empty or unused.
I'm not very good at explaining stuff to people who are totally new to it, so you can see mw:Help:Templates and mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions for hopefully better explanations and more information. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:35, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

SMW off for a while

When a number of infobox templates were changed on the site a few hours ago, it flooded the caches on our network and caused massive load issues. I have turned off SMW on the site for at least the next 18 hours to let it sync back up correctly. I would highly recommend you make any further changes - either adding on or rolling back - to infoboxes now because it will avoid further issues tomorrow. --daNASCAT http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb32675/wikia/images/e/e9/WikiaStaff.png (help forum | blog) 21:01, July 27, 2011 (UTC)

Are you sure it was edits to infobox templates, and that it was on this wiki that the edits occurred? Looking at Special:RecentChanges, the only infobox edits in the past week I'm seeing are the ones I just got done making (I started these after SMW was shut off, apparently, given that I was no longer getting timeouts on previews/saves, but I didn't actually see your comment until now - how's that for serendipity? =D ). On the other hand, I could see my earlier edits to {{Unofficial name/category}} being enough to flood the caches, but I was experiencing timeouts before then as well. The only other possibility I can think of, then, would be that my edits to {{CardTable2}} a couple of days ago are the real, underlying cause, unless this was indeed actually caused by edits on another wiki.
All that said, thanks for the heads-up! =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:38, July 27, 2011 (UTC)
