Spiritual Light Art

Turned out your money went down the drain... if you remembered the discussion in this article... --iFredCat 22:51, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Yep, I vaguely remembered that discussion, thanks for linking to it. I'm definitely not complaining about being wrong, though; consistency is a wonderful thing and this is one more piece of evidence that "Dark Spirit Art" isn't meant to be part of the series (though again, if that is the case, I don't know what it is supposed to be, since its Japanese name matches up perfectly). =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:54, May 2, 2012 (UTC)

Duelist Edition Volumes 3 and 4

Articles were created for Duelist Edition Volume 3 and Duelist Edition Volume 4 with neoarkcradle as the source. Uiam, you have an account there. Are you able to get the primary source? -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:03, May 3, 2012 (UTC)

The set info was posted by Ark, so I don't think that's in doubt. The specific post linked to as a reference, though, was just some random comment in the thread; I've changed the links to instead point to Ark's comment. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:41, May 3, 2012 (UTC)

Image borked

I had just moved File:QuizPanelObelisk-20-JP-Anime-GX.png to File:QuizPanelObelisk20-JP-Anime-GX.png. The image itself has vanished. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 16:35, May 3, 2012 (UTC)

This is beyond me; you'll have to see if Wikia can fix it. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:44, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
Alright, sent them a message. I've never seen this one before and I've moved hundreds of images. Very weird. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 16:49, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
The file itself still exists. It's just not showing up in either of file pages. You could just reupload it, but that might result in it saying that a duplicate file exists. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:24, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
That worked. Thanks, Delt. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:10, May 4, 2012 (UTC)
Took me forever to notice this little typo... you're done that again, Coffee Dude? --iFredCat 00:19, May 4, 2012 (UTC)
We are however left with it saying:
The following file is a duplicate of this file (more details):
-- Deltaneos (talk) 11:28, May 4, 2012 (UTC)
True, hopefully Wikia will be able to fix that part. To me, the main issue was getting the image to display again though. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 12:17, May 4, 2012 (UTC)

Another strange bug. Can either of you move this image? The "rename" button isn't there for me. And I just moved about ten other images in the last few hours... Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 16:11, May 4, 2012 (UTC)

I can't, and trying it manually results in a "no such target page" error. Interestingly enough, the software also claims that there's no history, and the protect tab thinks it's a nonexistent page (notice the create protection control, instead of the normal edit/move controls), though its deletion page and upload log appear normal. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:22, May 4, 2012 (UTC)
That's an old bug. The page gets moved, but the file itself gets left behind. When I've had this problem before, I've been able to fix it by moving the page back to its old location, where the file can "reattach" itself to the page, and then moving it again. I've moved it back to its original location, but now I get Unable to write to file "/images/y/yugioh/images/9/91/RoughExploder-JP-Anime-GX.png": file exists when I try moving it again. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:50, May 4, 2012 (UTC)

Tracking images

A user has been using their own custom tag to track images that they feel are poor quality. Could you please explain to them why we don't do that? --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 20:21, May 6, 2012 (UTC)

Comment left on their talk page. For the record, an admin's opinion wasn't needed, really, just an experienced editor's or three. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:20, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, he struck me as one of those "get me the manager!" types. I knew my explanations wouldn't be good enough. Thanks. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 11:50, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
Since I did just find this while I was Perusing some of the other postings in Dino's talk page I will comment on this now. It wasn't that I thought I NEEDED a manager, I thought that this, IF it wasn't handled correctly could lead to an edit war which I did not want. Golden Key you have Mover and Rollback privileges that did not make you the authority on how another user could control/perform a project he was working on and monitoring. Sysops are the ones that are here to mediate between contributors and keep things from getting out of hand.
The Tags limited the scope of what I was observing to exactly what I wanted it to. However, the Poor Quality tag "can" show me images "I" did not evaluate and is outside the scope of my current project. I just wanted to keep an eye on the ones I thought needed updated. I do not see how the custom tag added any overhead to the system. I feel as long as the person using the tag cleans them up when he is done with them it is irrelevant to anybody else if they are there. I was careful to make them Hidden so as not to distract anyone viewing the page. The key was it was working for the purpose I needed it for and it was nobody's concern but mine. The only thing I would add to the tag at this point would be a signeture behind it so it is easy to keep track of who put it there. Glittersword TalkContributions 19:47, May 29, 2012 (UTC)

Set redirect templates

Hey just wanted to let you know I'll put back all the set template redirects. The reason I got rid of them in the first place was that I added the {OCG-TCG card image} template to the first couple of HAO5-IT card images and they linked fine without the HA05/IT redirect template, I hadn't created it yet. Not sure how that could have been a bug though, I kept checking to make sure it wasn't breaking anything every so often. Looks like a night sleep broke everything though. Any ideas why it would have worked without the language redirect for the set template? Sorry again I'll fix it this afternoon. Look234 (talkcontribs) 12:10, May 7, 2012 (UTC)

Were you using "region" instead of "lang" for those images? The template not linking through the redirects was a bug I was aware of for a while but didn't find the cause of (namely, using "region" instead of "lang") until last night (at which point I fixed it, causing the breakage), so there were quite a few images that weren't properly using them. You don't have to restore all of them, BTW, just the ones that actually are used; knowing the keyboard shortcut to a page's Special:WhatLinksHere page (Alt+J (Alt+⇧ Shift+J in some browsers)) helps a lot there. I'll probably go through more of them later myself, so don't think the burden is on you alone. =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:13, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, yeah I've been trying to help get the template a little more active. It's showing up a bit more now so that's good news. Also, I found a few problems while adding the template, you probably already know about these but just in case:
Sorry I'm going to ask a few more questions, do you have a way to override the "edition" or the "set" for some cards? The problem for this is that the card says that their gallery does not exist or that it's from the wrong set. Some more examples:
No rush on anything, I know you have your own projects to work on, just giving you a heads up just in case you hadn't seen these yet. Thanks again for the template, it does help clean up misnamed cards while I'm going through the galleries and it looks nice. ^_^ Look234 (talkcontribs) 19:59, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the reports, I'll look into them at some point (probably a bit later).
I knew there'd be a problem with "Damage = Reptile"; SMW's distinction between input and data is poor (poorer then wikimarkup/ParserFunctions, even), with one symptom being that it absolutely chokes on page names containing equals signs. This is something I've fixed elsewhere; the fix should be reasonably straightforward, albeit ugly as hell.
In contrast, I'm surprised at hearing that it has difficulties with card names containing exclamation points or stuff like "(card)"; I'll have a look and see what's going on there.
(Warning: text dump ahead, sorry for the length... ^^;; ) Unfortunately, a card's set is nowhere near as "clean" as it could be (Konami/UDE standardized the abbreviations far later then they should have, and even now Konami seems way too willing to do weird things with abbreviations); this is why the template transcludes through the redirects you deleted (since some set abbreviations have been used for completely different sets in different regions, so this allows one of these redirects to be changed to instead handle that specific case). However, there are other cases where the same set abbreviation has been used for different sets in the same region, and still other cases (like you noted above) where they are arguably more "sub-sets" of the same set, but we treat them as separate sets for convenience. So this is an issue I knew would come up at some point, and I have put a bit of thought into it, but an elegant solution still evades me - perhaps we could do something like "YSD4P" and "PRC1V" for the set abbreviations for the above cards? Since all instances of the actual output of a set's name and abbreviation are generated by {{Set}} subpages, we could have the abbreviation display as something like "YSD4-JPP" or "PRC1-V" or similar (though that would mess with linking to the appropriate set gallery, too... hmm). (Basically, I'm wanting to not use an override parameter if I can avoid it, since that would add further complexity to using the template.) Ultimately, I'm almost positive there's some way to completely eliminate the per-set {{Set}} subtemplates; I just haven't hit on it yet (but it's something else I spend time thinking about).
Thanks, that was a major driving force for creating the template (well, that and coming across random Japanese card images that I don't recognise, aren't used or linked from anywhere, and whose names don't reflect the English name of the card). If you have any thoughts on ways the template could be further improved/refined, I'd love to hear them! =D ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:30, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
After thinking about it for a bit, I think that the ideal long-term solution to the "(card)" problem would require a pretty big change in how we name card images (namely, stop stripping every non-alphanumeric character and its dog from the card's name, and use a different delimiter for separating the different parts of the image name). I've thought of doing this in the past, using a period for the delimiter, but I don't like that since it would still require stripping the period from card names using it (of which there are a non-trivial number), and it would complicate detection of the components of the image name somewhat (just about enough to offset the simplification arising from not having to strip characters from the card name, I think). Most all other potential delimiter characters have similar problems, either appearing in card names (comma, slash) or being used as wikimarkup/by the MediaWiki software and thus complicating handling in that way (asterisk, ampersand), and some have both problems (exclamation point). I've been meaning for a while to make a list of cards that use various non-alphanumeric characters in their names; I'll have to do this now just to see what characters I might be able to use (I'm now leaning towards the tilde, but the visually-similar wave dash is used in some Japanese card names IIRC, and there's the possibility of some card being released in English with a tilde in its name (unfortunately, this is also a concern for all other potential delimiter characters, so it'll ultimately come down to what has the highest ratio of convenience versus likelihood of appearing in an English card name)).
Of course, this all assumes I could actually get the community on board with such a large change, especially considering we're still updating from my previous successful campaigns to change how we handle card image file names in various ways. The upside is that if such a change did get community support, there's already a reasonably widely deployed template that will auto-tag images needing renamed, as well as provide a link to do so in two clicks, for us. =D ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:08, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
"a pretty big change in how we name card images".....<_> <_<....Yeah, you saw this coming from me. But if it's going to solve more problems than its going to cause, then yeah, do it. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:20, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
I think I should start proposing technical changes purely on the basis of whether they'll annoy you, Cheesedude... =D This isn't actually the first time I've mentioned this, but I can't find where I said it last time, and IIRC, no one commented/picked up on it at the time. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:20, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
That's fine. You can't drive me crazy with that kind of thing. I've been crazy for years.
The thing that annoys me the most is I'm finally getting around to getting every anime and manga card image at the correct file name. I'd rather like to not have to go and do it again. But oh well. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:20, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
If it's any consolation, I'll make a point of finally adding anime and manga (and VG) support to {{OCG-TCG card image}} (which means I'll also have to rename it) before proposing this change; that way, said images can be tagged and will benefit the same as OCG/TCG card images. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:43, May 9, 2012 (UTC)
That's quite a bit of consolation, actually. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 04:58, May 9, 2012 (UTC)

New Images

I was just checking out some new images being uploaded and I thought you might want to review them. Here is the 1st one I looked at.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/File:FishborgLauncher-JF12-JP-NPR.jpg

In my opinion the new images are inferior to what he is replacing. They both have a bit of blurring but I like the ones that were there before better. I just want a second opinion. the second file I looked at did the same thing. Beyond that I still have to look. Glittersword TalkContributions 20:42, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

I dunno, past a certain point, image quality gets very subjective. Blackwings is a generally trusted editor, and if he thinks his images are enough of an improvement over what we currently have quality-wise, I'm inclined to trust his judgement. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:46, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, Blackwing's images look fine to me as well. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 20:52, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

No problem then, I checked some of the others and some I agreed with some I didn't. I guess I just like vibrant colors. What can I say. that was why I asked for a second opinion though, before I went wacky with the revert button. They are a lot smaller in regards to File size though. Delay in replacing bgcolor

There's a bgcolor attribute used in {{CardTable2}}, followed by a comment saying that some custom colours need to be fixed before it can be replaced with its CSS equivalent. I just noticed today that Internet Explorer 7 and 8 are having trouble displaying three digit hexadecimal colour codes used there, so the top of nearly every card article is black. Three digit colour codes work fine when using style though. So what is it that needs to be fixed with the custom colours before we can change the bgcolor to a style? Alternatively we can just switch the colour codes to six digits, but I'd rather we just got rid of the bgcolor. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:07, May 22, 2012 (UTC)

It's because custom colors may use quotes around the color name/value. I think we could go ahead and replace it, and just make sure to check for and strip quotes from custom values, but if that's done, it should be followed up with actually checking and removing quotes from values on card articles. I think I was planning on doing this at the same time I looked through the custom values used to see if there are any that could reasonably be moved into the template, but obviously haven't gotten around to doing either yet. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:44, May 23, 2012 (UTC)
I went ahead and updated {{CardTable2}}; it shouldn't break any transclusions, but there's always the possibility. Transclusions should be updated as soon as reasonable so the hack can be removed from the template. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:15, May 23, 2012 (UTC)
