Archfiend conveniently has two spellings of demon/daemon to get around the fact that there are multiple Japanese terms for one English one, but toad/frog doesn't quite work the same way. Take a card like "Froggy Forcefield", which indisputably says "frog" in Japanese, but is not part of the archetype because it is using a katakana version of the English word, not the Japanese word. Likewise, "NEX" is not a Neo-Spacian card due to different super-scripting (and has been ruled as such), but it would be crazy to translate it any other way. Rather than making up translations to fit with archetypes (that's the purpose of the provisionally localized names), the translation of the Japanese name would be best served providing an accurate translation of what the Japanese actually says. If it is really necessary for translations to reflect archetype divisions perfectly, it would always be possible to pull a HERO and play around with capitalizations. But even then, accidental inclusions mean that translations matching archetypes perfectly cannot happen.

Overlay Network

Hey GK. This anon is pretty much vandalizing the Overlay Network page with unnecessary capitalization and overlinking. I've reverted his edits several times and tried to address the issue on his talk page, but he just keeps doing it, so rather than get into an edit war, I'll just leave it to you. Thanks.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 11:52, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

He also clearly has no idea what he's doing, because he's making several formatting errors in the process.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 11:54, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

This has gone too far

This user seemed just not to listening to my warning, or even understand the reason why "Outside Reference" was omitting from the Trivia. So I am asking you to do the either ways; Lock those two articles or at least banned him from abusing the edit/revert back to his recently edits. You can have more choices, that I won't objection. --iFredCat 14:49, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Try discussing it on his talk page first, and we'll go from there. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 16:02, May 11, 2013 (UTC)
Hmm... interesting option. --iFredCat 16:09, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Unrelated Comment! Unrelated Topic!

I know that it's little harsh to not leave him in the dark - I gave him the link and the date that he wished to know when it's gotta releasing. And yes, it's complete unrelated to this site anyways. --iFredCat 22:43, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, he got his answer so there was no need to keep the topic around. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 22:49, May 21, 2013 (UTC)
It's because you used Black Monster Reborn on it, sent it to the hell. --iFredCat 22:56, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

Number 54 trivia

Got put in again by Hawk. Frankly, this is becoming irritating, which is why I keep staying out of it (don't want to lose my cool or anything). It would help if people would just take it to the talk page. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 18:17, May 22, 2013 (UTC)

It was already decided on the forum days ago that such things are not to be added to trivia pages and save them for the forum. Not sure why Hawk has decided to start again. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 18:53, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I added my take just before the decision was agreed on (which is I thought it would be good to just move trivia's like that to a forum Numbers/trivia page). Good thing about this, is once the page is made, we can direct people who add in certain trivia, and move it to that forum page. It should be stickied though. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 19:22, May 22, 2013 (UTC)

Just answer

Bro do you have steam or something where i can chat with you ans show u something! :D Stanisa (talkcontribs) 19:34, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Can't really use chat at the moment, but if it's an image you can post a link and I'll check it out. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:38, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

and tell em about this "name" of card - if it's not altname, then what is? :DStanisa (talkcontribs) 19:48, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

I hope you didn't pay money for that; it is clearly counterfeit. The fonts are off, in addition to the wrong name. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:50, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
) I wish i have some originals, i have 50000+cards (only-200+ originals)

and ty! :D
If u have an original E-Hero duplicate, send me via mail to me. xD
Cause im collecting that deck (only originals) and its hard to find them here in my town!Stanisa (talkcontribs) 20:00, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

I agreed with Goldy, it's complete counterfeit - its name is complete different, it's such to be Chronomaly, not OOPArt in English name; its stats (Machine/Xyz/Effect) are full Capital, nothing new... Oh, 2x Level 5 Monsters, pleazzzze, should we multiple the Level 5 Monsters into two, which would have to be Level 25 monsters to overlaying? At least they got the effect text right, with "Xyz" corrected, not "XYZ" craps. And also, ATK/DEF forts are similar to that of Stats, little larger than we normally see. Last thing, the rarity card usually curled center backward, not curving center outward. All those, except effect texts, are definite fake. And sorry, Goldy - just can't help but to ranting my mind out here. --iFredCat 21:58, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
Ok then, its fake. Has that now been established? NMBRHNTR64 (talkcontribs) 22:11, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
Indeed, we should stop sending those cola drink to him - we can't afford to have other Rua in this wikia site. I meant, one Rua is enough, but two? Too much! It's like we had unlimited the "Raigeki" and put it in each theme we can find. --iFredCat 22:21, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
??? NMBRHNTR64 (talkcontribs) 22:51, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
Just the idea of him wrecking about anything in the room - Raigeki is similar to that in the effect. --iFredCat 22:59, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I think I get it then. NMBRHNTR64 (talkcontribs) 23:02, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Voice actors

Cheesedude directed me here. Anyway, where do you get your information on who voices who in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAl anime? ChaosGallade (talkcontribs) 15:47, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

In the few times I've added such info, I visit IMDB and/or Wikipedia. I then like to check the VA's website (if they have one) for confirmation. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 15:53, May 31, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. ChaosGallade (talkcontribs) 15:57, May 31, 2013 (UTC)

RE: Watermarks

SALUTATIONS, GOLDEN KEY!! =j

Me sorry--unfortunately, Ebay wasn't doing it for me. I did not think the InMint watermark was too much because it's on the upper-right most part of the card and doesn't obscure any card data.

Nevertheless, I do see your point here as there not only is a watermark but also one that is profusely opaque (pure white of ALL colors) and hard to miss. On the contrary, InMint houses a large pool of Unlimited Edition card images that seemingly won't change (unlike say, the dynamic alters on Ebay) that moreover appears to account for Unlimited Edition cards that may not be elsewhere.

That aside though, don't "fret"--I'll try my best to hunt for another site that doesn't have any said marks should Plan A (which is Ebay at the moment) wonks out (if not ones that are much more covert and transparent if it HAS to come down to that, which I HOPE it doesn't.) In the meantime though, Unlimited Edition galleries IMO, are a minor issue here if ya ask me, albeit I'd figure that these in-part could be something I can spearhead at my leisure being part of this Wikia without being erroneous.

Despite this (hopefully) benign hullabaloo, thanks for this 411--I mean, after all, everybody learns something new everyday, don't we? =? --ARCADIASSCHOLARLY (talk contribs) 18:21, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

Card lores

Do we always use the card lores from the latest set the card is in? If you don't get what I'm saying here, would you mind looking at the edit history for Blackwing - Aurora the Northern Lights? ChaosGallade (talkcontribs) 18:57, June 7, 2013 (UTC)

Series Pages

Hey Golden, can you join in with the discussion please? I saw that you too believe the recent influx of series should be addressed too. Cheers! http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Series_Pages

TheScarecrow14 (talkcontribs) 13:46, June 21, 2013 (UTC)

I've been keeping up with it. I agree that there are too many unnecessary things being documented (With Chain and Treasure Cards being excellent examples), I don't know what rules we could come up with for documenting what is and is not a strong enough theme. The whole idea of "themes" is very subjective. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 13:53, June 21, 2013 (UTC)

Images

I do not do that. When I uploaded That One!'s image, I already inputted the correct name. It's just that when you select an image from your PC, it resets the image's name to what it's called on your PC. I kind of missed that. Aberration (talkcontribs) 18:39, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Could you rename this, by the way? http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/File:Card100012606_1.png Aberration (talkcontribs) 18:41, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Rename

Yeah, can you rename the Mosaic Rare images I uploaded from Brain Crusher onwards? Aberration (talkcontribs) 16:57, July 2, 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the trouble with the images. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:32, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
No biggie. :) --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 14:42, July 3, 2013 (UTC)
Could you rename the High Priestess and the Dragosack images that below Toon Gemini Elf and Treeborn Frog from the battle packs? They're incorrectly named, and a user is just using them to post on his on page. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 15:48, July 4, 2013 (UTC)
They were duplicates of images we already had, so I deleted them. Thanks for pointing them out. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 15:52, July 4, 2013 (UTC)

Re

Well it wasn't trivia base, and since it was anime the only place suitable would have been the card appearance page. I'm not questioning you, but was it because it did that almost everytime it was summoned (you know how some monsters when in a position, they'll do an action like hide themself behind a shield of some kind or when they use an effect they'll do something like put up a light for the owner or when they attack put an eye in a scope and then fire-The last one Tech Genas Halbard Cannon)? Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 15:20, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

I don't think documenting things that happen when a monster is summoned, outside of Number sealed forms, is needed anywhere. Whenever "Junk Warrior" is Synchro Summoned he spins around, but that's not worth noting. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 15:50, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
Good point, I'll stick to putting what they do when they attack (and in some cases the effect). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 16:04, July 5, 2013 (UTC)

Rarity parameter

I have a doubt! How do you admnistrators provide a valid rarity via the "rarity" parameter? IgorThunderMaster (talkcontribs) 23:35, July 6, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing up the issue with Legendary Dragon of White. Dinoguy's going to fix it when he gets the chance, so don't worry about it for the time being. :D --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 02:08, July 7, 2013 (UTC)

So it seems

All that work for nothing. I searched for censorship and did not find anything. It never occured to me it was under the word Modified. The only thing the original has that this doesn't is the actual description of the change. I didn't add that because I was working off of myCards TCG Database and that portion was in german. the thing is though the word Censorship was the first term that came to my mind that described what Konami did, Not Modified or Altered and that term did NOT lead me to the page I was looking for (there was no redirect). Since that was the correct term to my way of thinking I naturally thought it wasn't there. My Bad.

A user by the name of Eros5 keeps putting fake images, mind stopping it (he also removed the JP celestail sword Eatos image that had the text written on the card with what looks like a dub image. Over-Hundred Image

Why did you delete the Over-Hundred Numbers picture, it might not have been perfect but it was a better picture than most. You are a terrible wiki editor. Wolfman of Light (talkcontribs) 18:31, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

Well that didn't take long. Fan-made collages are not desired for pages. In addition to this, yours was grainy and poorly cropped. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 18:35, July 22, 2013 (UTC)
Well that's not for you to decide, I will wait for an admin to decide that. It is also not for you to say if or not I should upload an image or not. I will upload it again as the image you have put up is terrible. It only shows Giant Hand. --Wolfman of Light (talkcontribs) 18:44, July 22, 2013 (UTC)
An anime image that only pictures one member is preferred to a poorly constructed collage featuring many members. See the conversation that took place here. And, um, I am an admin, so... --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 18:47, July 22, 2013 (UTC)
I see, well I don't expect anyone with such a narrow mind to be an admin, so I guess that's my mistake. The pictures that have been put up are terrible, Glorious Halo and Giant Hand are only one member so they are not suitable to represent the whole group. I am genuinely surprised that this wiki is as big as it is with admins like you running it. Wolfman of Light (talkcontribs) 18:51, July 22, 2013 (UTC)

Protection

Seems counter-intuitive, I know. We used to just use it to block IPs previously, I'm not even sure the behaviour for new users is even still in there... or if it is, it's not defined properly.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 13:10, July 23, 2013 (UTC)

Just double-checked. Autoconfirmed is 3 days, new user is 4 days and at least 10 edits. Since the vast majority of users exceed that, it's useless.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 13:23, July 23, 2013 (UTC)
According to Special:ListUsers, we have over 5,000 users, with more than ten edits, but over 20,000, with at least one. If you look at vandal demographics, I'm sure most of them don't have four days and ten edits before they start to vandalise. -- Deltaneos (talk) 13:46, July 23, 2013 (UTC)
How was the guy still able to edit the page after I locked it, then? His account was just made today. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 14:07, July 23, 2013 (UTC)

Just a question, Why was the page I made about Jay Phipps deleted? I spent ages writing that page and gathering Data. He is kinda famous in the Dallas area. And he has consistently performed well at regional tournaments. Billy Brake is from the same area (North Texas) and they even play in the same locals here. I found that to be a valid page because of his record of winning tournaments. He is even attributed as being responsible for the E-Banning of Substitoad and Fishborg Blaster because he made an FTK deck with it that was consistent enough to have him temporarily suspended for review. Being a well known Deck Engineer is just as important as being a well known player who got to the top by spamming some generic meta deck over and over again. Could I suggest a sub category under people for Renowned Deck Engineers?

Aesir Related

When I edited "Dromi the Sacred Shackles", "Raging Sacred Curse", "Tyr of the Nordic Champions", "Fenrir the Nordic Wolf" and "Jormungand the Nordic Serpent", they all mention Divine-Beast-type monsters being present on the field. And in the English and Japanese animes, the Aesir monsters are Divine-Beasts. That's why I feel they should be put in the said navbox. Plus, hey, they're all Nordic themed. I don't think they were meant to be used with the Egyptian God Cards. (Sean.evans.944023 (talkcontribs) 19:45, August 6, 2013 (UTC))

Create-a-Card Critique

If you like proper PSCT, then consider the following:

  • "Gagaga Gambler": Rolling a six-sided die is never a cost; it's always an effect. (But of course, you can decide to keep the die roll as a cost, as a revolutionary concept.)
    • "the Levels of all "Gagaga" monsters you control become equal to the result.
  • "Gatekeeper": Once per turn: You can Special Summon a "Gagaga" monster from your Deck with an ATK
  • "Grandfather": You can add 1 "Gagaga" Spell/Trap Card
  • "gathering": Once per turn, if the Level of a "Gagaga" monster(s) changes

As for my personal opinion on the cards? I like them, except for "Gagagagathering", which reminds me too much of "Black Whirlwind" -_-; . With more members that change their Levels, this card could easily be overpowered. Maybe add a "You can only control 1" clause. Just my opinions; feel free to disregard. =V — This unsigned comment was made by UltimateKuriboh‎ (talkcontribs)

Thank you, I made most of your suggested changes. For "Gagagagathering", I think if things like "Blackwings" and "Wind-Ups" are apparently fine with 3 of their respective search cards, "Gagaga" would be fine with three of this, though I suppose I could retool it into a Field Spell. Thank you for helping me posting my Black Luster Soldier IOC-025 1st edition at the Card Gallery. Was trying to do it bymyself but it wasn't accepted because I had named the file wrong or something. I must have uploaded the image three times at least. Thanks again. --Xcalibris (talkcontribs) 19:14, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

I had uploaded some images on my profile page and they were deleted. I sure can understand that this is this wiki's image policy but some of them were used in card galleries without even mentioning me as a contributor. --Xcalibris (talkcontribs) 07:10, October 4, 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for replying. I know it's a free for all site and stuff but at least I want to be aknowledged for my contributions. I am not chasing a benefit or something. Just because I have been using this wiki for years and feeling proud that I can help. --Xcalibris (talkcontribs) 12:36, October 4, 2013 (UTC)

Redirect

Hello. Hmm.. Regarding the undoing of my last edit, just why is this considered a spoiler ? "Nasch" redirects to Shark's page, anyway. So having the direct link or the redirect doesn't matter, spoiler-wise. It's hidden in the code of the page anyway, so no spoiler is shown too. At the end of the day, it only matters for the loading speed of Shark's page. Things are the direct link ("Reginald Kastle") is a bit faster to load than the "Nasch" redirect. Just saying. HPZ - O.N.E. (talkcontribs) 13:36, October 9, 2013 (UTC)

If you even hover over the link, you see "Reginald Kastle", which is a spoiler. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 15:53, October 9, 2013 (UTC)

How come you deleted the pictures?

Hi Goldekney, I was wondering why you deleted the pictures I uploaded to replace them with the same pictures? It was the Number 10X chaos picture and the Number C40 one with the misty effect? KasaiWolf (talkcontribs) 19:26, October 14, 2013 (UTC)

The 10X image you uploaded was smaller, more pixelated and the height looked distorted. Not sure about the C40 one, I'll have a look later. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:48, October 14, 2013 (UTC)
No you don't need to, I didn't realize. Thank you very much. KasaiWolf (talkcontribs) 20:43, October 14, 2013 (UTC)

Reply

Thank you for the reply. There is something I want to make note of. Many episodes lack an episode summary (some that do have summaries don't match up to ones used in 5D's and ZEXAL). Some of the administrators should modify the episode pages on that.Cardsknower (talkcontribs) 17:38, October 18, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, the earlier series episode pages are often poorly done. Episode summaries can be written by anyone, not just administrators. The issue is that no one has yet taken the time to do so. It's potentially something that could be requested on the forum, for those with writing skill and time to spend doing them. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 17:56, October 18, 2013 (UTC)

possible fake episodes again

hi golden key on NAS has removed episodes 130-132 from their guide and episode 130 features alit and yuma's duels on going it Looks Like NAS Removed Episodes 130-132 from their guide its all over Neo Ark and Pojo episode 130 will feature number 80 NAS Site claims that, not again we re fooled again first those nasch VS vector and now episodes 131-132 are starting to prove false (ZombieLionel (talkcontribs) 18:48, October 24, 2013 (UTC))

Yes, it's more probably that the episode information was leaked too early, rather than it being fake. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:10, October 24, 2013 (UTC)
Ah cool, I just noticed though: apparently on this (I can't make it out well enough myself) it has:
第130话 覚醒の熱拳!!(觉醒的热拳!!) 2013/11/17
Which is different to the presumed accidental leak we already have of 130? :s Sorry to be a pain, this bit just confused me >.> --slave(commandworks) 20:27, October 24, 2013 (UTC)

Previous edit

Pardon the previous edit summary of mine, as I was using a new device and I'm still not used to the controls very well, hence why the grammar was so bad that time; it was suppose to say "wasn't said those powers came from her being a Signer". I was about to ban you indefinitely for such poor use of grammar, but I shall forgive you. This time. (Kidding! :P) --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 11:56, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

Hey! :D

I want to say that there's something wrong with this page: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Card_Tips:Risebell_the_Star_Adjuster,_Card_Tips:Risebell_the_Star_Psycher

The sentence "Card Tips" appears twice, as well as the Trivia and Rulings pages of this card.

The image that I am replacing is already being used in the description for that episode. I think it's pointless to reuse the same image so I'm adding a little variety. Besides, the other images aren't exactly "great quality". :/ Yume.akko (talkcontribs) 09:45, November 8, 2013 (UTC)

Question

Could you add anime image for Antinomy, Jose and Lucciano in the Yliaster article (they seem to currently be Tagforce images)? Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 17:55, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

If we could get images that are of higher quality than the ones currently being used as the main images for those characters' pages, sure. I can't watch episodes right this moment, but maybe ask Winter. He's usually good at anime screenshots. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 18:08, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

Candidate for deletion

Hey Golden, could you possibly delete: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Nistro's_Decks for me please. I was told by a few other members that the wiki is attempting to delete the "X's Decks" pages and I sorted out Gauche's incarnation pages, so that his anime Decks are on his anime page whilst his D Team Deck is on his D Team page. Cheers! TheScarecrow14 (talkcontribs) 01:11, November 28, 2013 (UTC)

About Watt page

Wattdragonfly IS NOT just ANY kind of dragonfly. Due to its Japanese name (kitonbo, lit. "yellow dragonfly"), I found out that it is Sympetrum croceolum ([3]). Yet there's NOT been any Wikipedia article about this specific species and I haven't found out what it's called in English (seems it's Asian exclusive), I'd rather like to post an external link. Is that so annoying to you?Take Fumikô (talkcontribs) 09:22, November 28, 2013 (UTC)

hello I saw you changed multiple pictures, but I got many remplasaste with your own pictures and they did not change the name then no problem because there are 2 images with the same name, if you wanted to go up because you did not have any to put the same name as mine to remove Mercuriomen (talkcontribs) 13:37, December 4, 2013 (UTC)

"Thousand Needles" series

SALUTATIONS ONCE AGAIN, GOLDEN KEY!!

Hold up, I DID NOT upload the collage to cause trouble--I'm "trying" my hand on creating a series page for the monsters (as there are three of them now) and I decided to make the said collage the "cover" image for the page. I'm sorry for that impromptu upload and I HOPE you don't think I'm trolling!! ={ ARCADIASSCHOLARLY (talkcontribs) 17:17, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

Yuma Image

It was from the first opening Masterpiece, though without the credits. I tried replacing the image, but couldn't because of some kind of MIME thing.

I wanted to use either that image, or the scene when he first appears in the sixth opening Wonder Wonder Wings, or the scene where he holds up Utopia in Challenge the Game. --Firered16 SA (talkcontribs) 22:15, December 5, 2013 (UTC)

Question

This has been on my mind for a while, but do you think a page should be made about that Candle Rudger had? Every time a candle went out, Rudger would immediately sense Demak or Kiryu were gone (of course we never saw the final candle light go out when Rudger died, but you get what I mean)? Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 19:37, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

I don't recall that particular item. If you want you can make a page for it, though others might see it as too insignificant. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:40, December 8, 2013 (UTC)
I believe it's that Candle we see him with in 51 before he goes to Bommer's cell. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 19:43, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

RE: Site for UE images

SALUTATIONS AGAIN GOLDEN KEY!! How are ya!? =j

Thanks for the site link, I'll definitely take advantage of its UE image pool whenever Ebay effs up! BTW not for nothing, but I'm curious if we can get other YGO Wikia users to "show some love" for the International language UE galleries, if you know what I mean. Do you know if we can rally up some users to do such? Again, I don't think that's a big deal but me just curious. =? ARCADIASSCHOLARLY (talkcontribs) 22:27, December 8, 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I don't use Facebook (for personal reasons); the unfortunately doesn't come from me having one in general, but because without it, I won't be sure if whoever did this "casual casting call" to rally users for the rest of the International card galleries is reaping any proactive volunteers. However, if you, or any other users do see anyone stepping up 2 do da deed, you can relay that to me if ya like.
Personally, I'm wondering if we can draft Jay-Z and/or Justin Timberlake to find this "Holy Grail". Get the hint? ;D ARCADIASSCHOLARLY (talkcontribs) 00:02, December 9, 2013 (UTC)

OP for 47

Hi, I recently found a non-watermarked OP for Number 47: Nightmare Shark. I replaced the water marked one with this one but the non-marked one only appears to show up when the image is clicked by a user, on the larger 'preview' screen. I'm not sure how to fix it so an assist would be appreciated. Photonkrios99 (talkcontribs) 23:28, December 14, 2013 (UTC)

RE: Effect-based relations only!!

SALUTATIONS ONCE AGAIN, GOLDEN KEY!!

Ya know @ the back of my head, I didn't know if anyone wanted to sound off to me about what I was doing in this regard. However, I'm really glad that someone did wish to do such. I'd love to get this off my chest because this is one of the aspects of card Trivias that really POs me to high heaven (especially when users continue to do this to Trivias today.) While I strongly think you may know based on the way I delete such Trivia based on what I'm about to say, I'll make them as overt as I can anyway.

What I consider "Effect-based relations only" is any such Trivia that only compares card effects and either A) does NOT have any other type of comparison or B) if it does, is one that's too general, given the entire card database in all of Yu-Gi-Oh!. I'll give a few examples of this from my eyes, using the theme of Discarding effects:

  • IS Effect-based relations only!!: Comparing the discarding effect of "Delinquent Duo" to the discarding effect of "Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord" and that's it. So both those cards can do that--BIG deal, so can hundreds of others! (Example ofA))
  • IS ALSO Effect-based relations only!!: Comparing the discarding effect of "Delinquent Duo" to the discarding effect of "Hand Destruction" AND noting that both cards are Spell Cards. Okay a bit more info that seems to makes them unique but again, there are quite more than those two Spells that discard. (Example of B))
  • IS NOT Effect-based relations only!!: Comparing the discarding effect of "Hand Destruction" to the discarding effect of "Card Destruction", noting that both cards are Spell Cards AND noting their similar names (this IS in their Trivias, albeit said differently). In addition to both being Spells that discard (they even both have a similar discarding gestalt,) their card names are also similar. All of this may be worth noting!

This being all off my chest now (or I think it all is,) do you have a better idea of how I go about cleaning up Trivias in this manner? If I see any Trivia tidbits that I feel lean towards A) or B), methinks it gots to go. By a similar token, if I add any such Trivia, I endeavor to see if as many other instances of similarities are notable or can be argued for (that are akin to my last example) before adding such. --ARCADIASSCHOLARLY (talkcontribs) 06:02, December 30, 2013 (UTC)

Frog/Toad

Edit accidentally saved before I finished my edit summary. That translation space is not for approximated localized names (otherwise "toad" would be appropriate, since that's how they translators handle it). カエル can only be accurately translated as "frog", not "toad". ガエル is just frog with tenten on the カ (which would have been done originally because it was part of a greater word, but eventually became part of the archetype name). "Toad Master" is an example of "toad" in Japanese, whereas "Ronintoadin" and "Substitoad" both actually say "frog" in Japanese. --SnorlaxMonster 17:04, December 31, 2013 (UTC)

It's true that the Japanese word for "toad" is different from their word for frog (only by a prefix, though: ヒキガエル vs. just カエル), but there's an important difference between ガエル and カエル nonetheless: the former is an archetype keyword while the latter is not. If you want to split hairs, it might actually make sense to reverse the two (i.e. ガエル as "toad" and カエル as "frog") and write off the former as a bit of additional punnery, but I'd argue that ship has sailed - we didn't really have カエル in the game when ガエル first came out (apart from the obscure Frog the Jam), so translating the former as "frog" only made sense at the time and swapping the two in our translations now would just sow confusion.
Accuracy is worthless without context. The literal translations for ガエル and カエル may be identical, but as far as the game is concerned, that dakuten might as well make the former an entirely different word. Is it a fudge? Yes. Might it leave some of our visitors walking away thinking that the Japanese words for "frog" and "toad" are the same apart from a little quote mark above the first letter? Possibly. But we're not here to teach people Japanese. We're here to banish misinformation about Yu-Gi-Oh!, and if a relatively minor fib in our translation keeps those same visitors from thinking that Ronintoadin, Substitoad, and Tradetoad's effects apply to each other, then mission accomplished.--Ryusui (talkcontribs) 18:23, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I understand that there is an important distinction between the two terms, because one is an archetype and one is not.
I'm not really sure how it's too late to change the translation for an archetype name either. People speaking Japanese use the Japanese name, people speaking English use the English name; if the translation used on the wiki is refined it wouldn't have a large impact. But anyway, I don't think it is necessary, since "frog" is a better translation to begin with. Besides, if "Toad" was used for the Frog archetype then it would conflict with "Toad Master". --SnorlaxMonster 18:48, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
How would you recommend denoting the difference between ガエル and カエル, then? Because I'm seeing a lot of complaining about the status quo but I'm not seeing any solutions being offered.--Ryusui (talkcontribs) 18:54, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
