"World Chalice", known as "Star Chalice" (せいはい Seihai) in Japanese, is an archetype introduced in Code of the Duelist. The archetype is related to, and is supported by, the "World Legacy" archetype.

Design

The main "World Chalice" monsters are all monsters of different Types and Attributes who seemingly evolve into stronger, armored Link Monster—possibly due to the "World Legacies" unlocked by them per the request of "Lee the World Chalice Fairy", as mentioned in the flavor text of "Chosen by the World Chalice", to fight against the "Crawlers".

Playing style

The "World Chalice" archetype relies on exploring the specificities of the Link Summon mechanic. For example, "Ib the World Chalice Priestess" has a blanket protection while linked to or by a monster, "Ningirsu the World Chalice Warrior" provides card advantage according to the number of "World Chalice" monsters it points to upon its Link Summon and "Imduk the World Chalice Dragon" destroys an opposing monster it points to at the start of the Damage Step upon battling it. This playing style as a whole reinforces the need of a very careful planning of where the player must place their Link Monsters and the proper order of the Summons, in order to make the most of all of their effects. The "World Chalice" Link Monsters also replace themselves with a "World Chalice" monster from the hand when they are sent to the Graveyard; this can be used to further support the Link Summons, as this effect can be triggered when they are used as Link Materials.

With the main "World Chalice" monsters being Normal Monsters, the archetype can benefit from Normal Monster support such as "Rescue Rabbit" and "Unexpected Dai", which can also help Link Summoning faster. "Link Spider" can provide an opening play for this archetype in combination with the former card by Summoning a "World Chalice" Normal Monster to a Monster Zone it points to.
