Yugi's Duel with Atem continues. Atem still appears to be one step ahead of Yugi, and shows him no mercy by Summoning a God.

SummaryEdit

Yugi (with 3000 Life Points) gasps that the "Swords" are on him now, and Atem explains that his "Bounce" card captured Yugi's monster with his own "Swords of Revealing Light", preventing the "Moving Fortress" from moving for two more turns. He asks Yugi what happens now, and Yugi doesn't respond, seeming unsure. Jonouchi notes that it's a close match, but the other Yugi is still thinking one step ahead, while Ishizu reflects that the "other self" is like an iron fort, and this fight will hinge on whether Yugi can breach it. Yugi's trembling, but not because he's afraid, because he's so happy that Atem is taking him seriously. If he wins his other self stays in this world, and if he could put the feelings behind Atem's Deck into words, he wouldn't want to lose the bonds between Yugi and their friends as he'd be so sad without them. Yugi feels the same way, but Atem has to return, so Yugi has to defeat him.

He ends his turn, and Atem declares his turn. He draws a card, apologizing silently to Yugi as he believes him unable to surpass him. He plays a Spell Card, "Tricky's Magic 4", by paying 1000 Life Points, bringing his own down to 3000 too, and Yugi is shocked that "The Tricky" can use different Spells. Since there are three "Gadget" monsters fastened to "Stronghold", "The Tricky" becomes three monsters, and Yugi thinks "No way..." to himself as Atem sacrifices the three "Trickys" to Summon "The God of the Obelisk". Yugi thinks "Obelisk's" name as it looms over the field and Jonouchi gasps that Atem has used a God card, and has an incredible Deck that he isn't showing any mercy with, Honda adding that Atem built an unstoppable Deck to blast Yugi away. Atem orders "Obelisk" to strike and it punches through "Stronghold" with "God Hand Crusher", shattering it and reducing Yugi to 2000 Life Points. Jonouchi calls Yugi's name and Otogi gasps that the one attack destroyed all of Yugi's monsters, and if he can't do something next turn he'll be finished off by a direct attack. Atem Sets a card, ending his turn and Jonouchi tells Yugi not to give up, though Honda worries that the "Swords of Revealing Light" are still on the field and wonders how Yugi can defeat a God.

But Yugi is smiling, much to Atem's surprise, and Bakura wonders if he has a trick up his sleeve, though Sugoroku notes that Yugi is backed into a corner with no turning back, so that can't be it. Anzu suggests it's because Yugi doesn't want the other Yugi to leave, but Jonouchi tells her not to talk stupid: no-one would grin when they're about to lose, and Yugi isn't that kind of Duelist. He's having fun that's all. Anzu is confused, and Jonouchi explains that Atem is going at Yugi with all he's got, and Yugi can't get enough of it. This is the first time they've faced one another as rivals, face to face and heart to heart, and while Yugi had always been following his other self, now they're coming at one another head-on. Anzu reflects on the notion of "always following" and thinks Yugi's name sadly, while Jonouchi recalls talking with Yugi on the ship about something he hadn't told Atem, and silently urges Yugi to show Atem his strength.

As Yugi declares his turn, Atem also mentally urges Yugi to bring it on, and Yugi Sets a card face-down, then Summons the "Silent Swordsman LV0" in Attack Position and ends his turn. Atem is surprised to see "Silent Swordsman" in Attack Position, and Marik asks why, as Yugi will take 3000 damage when the God attacks and lose the Duel. Jonouchi desperately thinks Yugi's name, but Atem has realized what he's up to - Yugi has "Turn Jump" among his face-down cards and as soon as it activates, three turns will pass and "Silent Swordsman" will raise its level, but it will only have 2500 ATK and will still be no match for the God.

He wonders if Yugi really thought he'd scare him into holding back and declares his turn. First he Summons "Big Shield Gardna" and then he attacks with "The God of the Obelisk". As Atem predicted, Yugi activates his face-down "Turn Jump", but as Atem believes Yugi still can't beat "Obelisk", Yugi tells him that's not all, and activates his Trap Card, "Crumbling Axe", which lowers the ATK of a monster by 500 for each turn it was face-down. Atem gasps "What?!" as Yugi explains the results of his combo: the "Silent Swordsman" has raised his level, the "Sword" wall has vanished, and the ATK of "Obelisk" has been reduced by "Crumbling Axe". Both "Silent Swordsman LV3" and "The God of the Obelisk" are now on 2500 ATK, and the God and the Hero destroy one another in a draw. Jonouchi is shocked that even though both monsters were destroyed, Yugi defeated a God, and Atem can only stare in surprise at Yugi.

Featured Duel: Yugi vs. Dark YugiEdit

Duel continues from the previous chapter.

Turn 5: Dark Yugi
Dark Yugi activates the Spell Card "Tricky's Magic 4", paying 1000 Life Points (Dark Yugi: 4000 → 3000 LP) to split "The Tricky" into a number of monsters equal to the number of monsters Yugi controls, but they cannot attack. Yugi controls three monsters, so Dark Yugi splits the "Tricky" into three monsters (2000/1200 each) in Attack Position. Dark Yugi Tributes the three "Trickys" to Tribute Summon "The God of the Obelisk" (4000/4000) in Attack Position. "Obelisk" attacks and destroys "Stronghold the Moving Fortress" (Yugi: 3000 → 2000 LP). Dark Yugi Sets a card.

Turn 6: Yugi
Yugi Sets "Turn Jump" and "Crumbling Axe". Yugi Normal Summons "Silent Swordsman LV0" (1000/1000) in Attack Position.

Turn 7: Dark Yugi
Dark Yugi Summons "Big Shield Gardna" (100/2600) in Defense Position. "Obelisk" attacks "Silent Swordsman", but Yugi activates his Set Spell Card "Turn Jump", skipping to Atem's Battle Phase three turns later. The effect of "Silent Swordsman LV0" increases its LV by 1 for every one of Yugi's turns that passes. Three of Yugi's turns pass due to the effect of "Turn JUmp" (Silent Swordsman LV3: 1000 → 2500/1000). As three of Yugi's turns have passed since the effect of "Swords of Revealing Light" was applied to his field, it is destroyed by its own effect. Yugi activates his Set Trap Card "Crumbling Axe", selecting a monster and lowering its ATK by 500 for each turn it was face-down. He selects "Obelisk", with "Crumbling Axe" having been face-down for three turns (Obelisk: 4000 → 2500/4000). The attack continues and "Obelisk" and "Silent Swordsman" are destroyed in a Double KO.

Duel continues in the next chapter.
