Yu-Gi-Oh! - Episode 007
"Attack from the Deep", known as "Sea God Leviathan" in the Japanese version, is the seventh episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime. It first aired in Japan on May 30, 2000 and in the United States on November 10, 2001.

A hungry gang meets up with Mako Tsunami, an ocean Duelist who challenges Yugi to a Duel with his Deck of sea monsters.

SummaryEdit
Joey can't stop grinning after winning his first official Duel against Mai Valentine. But he has another problem - he's hungry, and none of the gang brought any food to the island. Tristan reveals that he brought a survival guide with him, which he says would allow them to find edible plants and mushrooms, but Joey responds that it would be too dangerous (in the dub, he asks if they can eat the book). Joey smells something good towards the ocean and runs off in that direction. Tristan comments that if anyone would be able to smell food, it would be Joey.
Joey spots three fish roasting on a spit near the ocean. Without hesitation, he jumps out to go eat them. Tristan joins him, followed by Yugi and Téa. Just as the gang are about to dig in, a fisherman holding a spear climbs out of the water and notices them. He scolds the gang for stealing his fish and calls them poachers. Joey attempts to defend himself by saying he hadn't eaten yet, but the fisherman is having none of it. Yugi notices that the fisherman is wearing a Dueling Gauntlet and recognizes him as Mako Tsunami, the Duelist who took third place at the national championships (in the dub, Yugi refers to him as the "top-ranked ocean Duelist"). Téa points out that Mako has an octopus on his head, which Mako promptly throws back into the ocean, to Joey and Tristan's chagrin.
Mako turns to Yugi and asks if those are really the Duelists they brought to the island. Yugi introduces himself, and Mako recognizes him as the only Duelist to defeat Kaiba. He says that if he had known this was Yugi's group, he would have shown more hospitality, and invites the gang to eat as much as they want. Joey and Tristan chow down, while Mako laughs internally. Mako tells the gang that his plan is to use the tournament's prize money to buy a big boat and catch even more fish. He says that having been raised by the ocean all his life, he knows when the ocean is calm and when it's upset.
The gang prepares to leave, and wishes Mako farewell, when suddenly Mako picks up his spear and throws it at a terrified Yugi's feet. He says that he laid the fish out as bait to catch unsuspecting Duelists and battle them on his own turf. He says that his first "catch" wasn't much of a challenge, and then challenges Yugi to a Duel. Yugi transforms into Yami Yugi and accepts Mako's challenge. As he does, a Duel Arena rises out of the ocean behind the group.
Mako introduces the field for the Duel - Mako's side of the field is Umi (ocean) while Yugi's side is Wasteland, evenly split down the middle. Both Duelists wager two Star Chips.
The Duel begins and Mako Summons a monster, but unlike in Yugi's previous Duels, he cannot see the Summoned monster - Mako has Summoned it underwater. Mako thinks to himself that since this is Yugi's first Duel against sea monsters, he doesn't understand the power the ocean brings - not only can Mako conceal his monsters, but they gain a Field Power Bonus from the ocean. Yugi Summons his "Horn Imp" in Attack Position, although he acknowledges that attacking an unseen foe is impossible.
Mako orders his underwater "Fiend Kraken" to emerge from the sea and ensnare Yugi's monster. "Horn Imp" is grabbed between the tentacles of "Fiend Kraken" and is destroyed. As Yugi's Life Points fall to 1740, "Fiend Kraken" descends back underwater. Mako declares that this is his "Sea Stealth Attack" and says that the true terror of the ocean is just getting started.
Yugi Summons his "Feral Imp", thinking that on the next turn, he'll be able to destroy Mako's monsters. Mako tells Yugi that he knows about the electrical attack of "Feral Imp". Mako Sets his "Jellyfish" which Yugi is once again unable to see underwater. Yugi declares a combo attack and equips "Feral Imp" with "Horn of the Unicorn", increasing its ATK to 2000. Joey tells the gang of Yugi's plan - Yugi is going to use the electricity provided by "Feral Imp" and "Horn of the Unicorn" to zap the ocean and all of Mako's monsters within. Yugi attempts to attack the ocean, but Mako laughs and reveals that the "Jellyfish" he played absorbs electricity, making his WATER Attribute monsters no longer weak to electricity. On Mako's turn, he orders "Fiend Kraken" to attack and destroy "Feral Imp", which it does. Yugi's Life Points drop to 1480.
Yugi goes for another combo attack, Summoning "Silver Fang" and playing the "Full Moon" Spell to increase its ferocity. Mako tells Yugi that his move will be fruitless and Summons his "Kairyu-Shin", which has an ATK of 2340 with the Field Power Bonus from the ocean. Mako orders "Kairyu-Shin" to attack, which wipes away and destroys "Silver Fang" with a tidal wave. Mako tells Yugi that destroying "Silver Fang" wasn't all his attack did, and tells Yugi to take a look at the field. To Yugi's horror, the field is almost completely submerged in water, with one small island of land left.
Mako says that this Duel will teach Yugi to fear the rage of the sea, and flashes back to a moment from his childhood. He and his father were out on a fishing boat, with Mako's father telling him that the ocean was a monster not to be underestimated. Suddenly, a storm set in, and a massive wave appeared before the two's boat. Mako's father only had enough time to tie him down before the wave hit, and when he awoke, the boat had drifted back to store with his father nowhere to be found. Mako says that he resolved to take his father's place and battle the ocean himself, and will one day become Japan's greatest fisherman. (In the dub, Mako's motivation is changed - when the boat washed ashore, Mako noticed a lifeboat missing, and took it as a sign that his father was still out there. He resolved to use his boat to search the seven seas until he finds his father.)
With only a small island left on his field, Yugi only has enough room to play one more card. He Summons his "Giant Soldier of Stone" in Defense Position, which gains a Field Power Bonus from the Wasteland, giving it 2600 DEF. Mako thinks that Yugi is planning to move his "Giant Soldier" into the ocean to create more land, so he Summons "Great White Terror" and has his three monsters surround the island on which "Giant Soldier" sits. (In the dub, the part about making more land is removed, and Mako is simply ordering his monsters to group up for an attack next turn.)
Yugi declares that this is what he was waiting for, and switches his "Giant Soldier" to Attack Position. Mako thinks that his monsters are still safe underwater, but Yugi reveals that his attack target isn't one of Mako's cards, but his own - "Full Moon". He orders "Giant Soldier" to attack with "Rock Crush Sword", which destroys "Full Moon". Yugi reveals that the gravity of "Full Moon" had raised the sea level by creating a high tide. The ocean recedes away, and all three of Mako's monsters that had surrounded "Giant Soldier" are now beached and stuck on land.
With Mako's monsters stranded, Yugi makes his final move. He summons "Curse of Dragon" and combines it with his Spell "Burning Land". "Curse of Dragon" attacks with "Hell Flame", which scorches all of Mako's monsters and reduces his Life Points to 0.
Yugi's second victory in the tournament increases his Star Chip count to five, while Mako is down to one, saying that now he'll have to start all over. Mako realizes he's hungry and declares that before he starts over, he'll need some food, and jumps back into the ocean. Téa says that every duelist who came to this island has their own dreams, and the gang heads off for more adventures, with Joey and Tristan saying they're still hungry.

Monsters compatible with Ocean or Desert receive a 30% Field Power Bonus. This includes Aqua, Dinosaur, Fish, Rock, Sea Serpent, Thunder and Zombie-Type monsters.
Turn 1: Mako
Mako Normal Summons "Fiend Kraken" (1200 → 1560/1400 → 1820) in Attack Position. "Fiend Kraken" then hides underneath the sea area of the Dueling Arena.
Turn 2: Yami Yugi
Yugi Normal Summons "Horn Imp" (1300/1000) in Attack Position.
Turn 3: Mako
"Fiend Kraken" attacks and destroys "Horn Imp" (Yugi: 2000 → 1740 LP).
Turn 4: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Feral Imp" (1300/1400) in Defense Position.
Turn 5: Mako
Mako draws. He then Sets "Jellyfish".
Turn 6: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then activates "Horn of the Unicorn", equipping it to "Feral Imp" and increasing its ATK by 700 ("Feral Imp": 1300 → 2000). Yugi then switches "Feral Imp" into Attack Position. "Feral Imp" attacks Mako's Set "Jellyfish" (1200 → 1560/1500 → 1950). Due to the effect of "Jellyfish", it is not destroyed as it can absorb electrical attacks.
Turn 7: Mako
"Fiend Kraken" attacks "Feral Imp". Because "Feral Imp" is battling a monster with a Field Power Bonus, the effect of "Horn of the Unicorn" is negated ("Feral Imp": 2000 → 1300). "Fiend Kraken" destroys "Feral Imp" (Yugi: 1740 → 1480 LP).
Turn 8: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Silver Fang" (1200/800) in Defense Position. He then activates "Full Moon", increasing the ATK and DEF of "Silver Fang" by 300 ("Silver Fang" 1200 → 1500/800 → 1100).
Turn 9: Mako
Mako draws. He then Normal Summons "Kairyu-Shin" (1800 → 2340/1500 → 1950) in Attack Position. "Kairyu-Shin" attacks and destroys "Silver Fang". A tidal wave occurs during the attack, reducing the Desert part of the field to 5%.
Turn 10: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Giant Soldier of Stone" (1300 → 1690/2000 → 2600) in Defense Position.
Turn 11: Mako
Mako draws. He then Normal Summons "Great White Terror" (1500 → 1950/1200 → 1560) in Attack Position. Mako's monsters surround "Giant Soldier of Stone".
Turn 12: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then switches "Giant Soldier of Stone" to Attack Position. "Giant Soldier of Stone" attack Full Moon, causing the tide to reverse and the water to recede ("Fiend Kraken": 1560 → 1200/1820 → 1400, "Jellyfish": 1560 → 1200/1950 → 1500, "Kairyu-Shin": 2340 → 1800/1950 → 1500, "Great White Terror": 1950 → 1500/1560 → 1200). Yugi then Normal Summons "Curse of Dragon" (2000/1500) in Attack Position. He then activates "Burning Land" to allow "Curse of Dragon" to attack all monsters Mako controls once each. "Curse of Dragon" then attacks and destroys all of Mako's monsters (Mako: 2000 → 0 LP).

Differences in adaptationsEdit
- The text on Tristan's survival book is erased in the dub.
- A close up of a fish wriggling on Mako's harpoon is cut from the dub.
- In the Japanese version, when Yami comes out of the puzzle, he is seen in the cone of light. In the dub, the whole transformation sequence is added.
- Yugi has more land in the dub.
- The sequence showing the storm clouds moving in is reversed in the US version.
- The background for Mako's "Great White Terror" is changed in the dub.
- Mako's "Great White Terror" card has 1500 ATK in the Japanese version. In the dub, it has 1600 ATK.
