When Yugi hears of a Duelist who has been kicked out of the tournament when his Deck and Star Chips were stolen, he tracks down the thief, who turns out to be none other than Mokuba Kaiba, the younger brother of Seto Kaiba, come to avenge his brother's loss.

    SummaryEdit

In one of the towers of Pegasus Castle, a mysterious boy in a bandana crafts a makeshift ladder out of bedsheets. He jumps out the window and climbs down the ladder towards the forest below. However, he soon realizes that the ladder is much too short to reach the bottom, and ends up falling and injuring himself when the ladder breaks. Croquet opens the door to the room where the boy was held, and realizes his escape. He goes to inform Pegasus of the boy's escape, in the process interrupting Pegasus' comic-reading session. Pegasus is surprised that the boy escaped despite Pegasus specifically inviting him as a guest, but then says there's no worry and he knows what the boy has planned.

Pegasus asks his computer to inform him of the status of the ongoing tournament. The computer informs him that 12 of the 40 Duelists have been eliminated, with the losers leaving by boat soon. He requests to hear the status of Yugi Muto, to which the computer replies that Yugi has managed to gather five Star Chips. Pegasus says that for his ultimate plan to come to fruition, Yugi must keep winning, so he expected no less from Yugi. He says that the escapee will eventually seek out Yugi, so as long as they keep their cameras trained on him, they will eventually be able to catch him again. Pegasus tells Croquet that when the boy is recaptured, he is to be locked in the dungeon to prevent further escapes.

Meanwhile, the gang is walking through a meadow path, talking about Yugi's previous Duel against Mako Tsunami. Joey says that Mako is a hard guy to hate, and Téa says that every Duelist who came to the island has their own dreams. (In the dub, they instead talk about how Yugi's five Star Chips put him closer to his goal of reaching Pegasus.) Joey thinks of Serenity, when suddenly the gang hears a Duelist screaming from up ahead. They see that Kemo has a boy in a chokehold. Tristan launches himself at Kemo and throws him to the ground, causing him to release the boy, but Kemo gets back up and kicks Tristan in the face, then grabs the boy again. Yugi and Joey try to intervene, but Kemo tells them that the boy lost all his Star Chips and is thus eliminated. The boy protests by saying his Star Chips and Deck were stolen from him, but Kemo says that it doesn't matter, as anyone who loses all their Star Chips is to be kicked off.

Kemo takes the boy to the island's pier and throws him into a rowboat next to Weevil Underwood and several other Duelists who were already eliminated. The gang rush to the pier, and Yugi asks the boy what the person who stole his Star Chips looked like. The boy says that the thief, wearing a bandana, challenged him to a Duel, but when the boy set down his Deck and Star Chips, the thief stole them and ran away. Yugi says that the gang will find the thief. Kemo says that the boat departs in thirty minutes, and declares that as the gang's time limit. Joey jokes that when they find the thief, he'll take half the boy's Star Chips as a reward, causing the gang to cringe. (This joke is removed in the dub, and instead Joey talks about his "brilliant mind".)

The gang walks back to the Duel Arena where the boy said the thief challenged him. Yugi sits down and says they'll wait for the thief to return, when suddenly, the boy with the bandana emerges from the bushes, declaring that he's finally found Yugi. Tristan wants to fight the boy, but Yugi gets them to back off, and realizes the boy wants to challenge him to a Duel.

Yugi transforms into Yami Yugi. The boy holds out an open palm, indicating his wager of five Star Chips, which Yugi matches. Téa notes that the boy isn't wearing a Dueling Gauntlet, confirming him as the thief. Tristan wonders why Yugi would ever accept the Duel, but Téa comments that maybe Yugi knows the thief's true identity. (In the dub, Joey asks the question instead, and Tristan responds that maybe Yugi doesn't know what he's doing.)

The Duel begins, and the thief thinks that Yugi will pay for what he did to his big brother. He flashes back to a memory of the KaibaCorp CEO's Office, where Seto is in a state of anger after having lost his Duel with Yugi. Seto says that the power of his cards lost against the heart of Yugi's cards, and that until he understands the heart of the cards, he'll never be able to defeat Yugi. He tosses Mokuba a card, which he says contains the key to the safe that houses KaibaCorp's important documents, before telling Mokuba that he's leaving for a while and that Mokuba's in charge while he's gone. (In the dub, he instead talks about how he feels like he lost a piece of himself that day. The card Mokuba is given is less significant, with Seto just telling Mokuba that "it was always your favorite".)

Mokuba takes the first turn and Summons "Man-Eating Plant" in Attack Position. Yugi counters with his "Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress". Yugi orders "Winged Dragon" to attack with "Fireball Stone", which destroys "Man-Eating Plant" and drops Mokuba's Life Points to 1400. (In the dub, Mokuba is instead the one who declares the attack, although the outcome is the same.) Yugi tells Mokuba that he can't hope to defeat "Winged Dragon" using stolen cards, as his heart is not in them. Mokuba takes offense to this idea, and echoes Seto's views of cards not being about heart, but power. This confirms Yugi's suspicions, and he calls out Mokuba by name. Mokuba takes his bandana off and confirms his identity.

Mokuba tells Yugi that due to him, Seto is gone and Pegasus is trying to take over Kaiba Corporation, to Yugi's surprise. Mokuba reveals that Pegasus spread the news of Seto's defeat worldwide, which caused KaibaCorp to lose the trust of its investors. Pegasus then met with a group of top KaibaCorp executives and convinced them to transfer their shares in KaibaCorp to him. However, they gave a condition: that Yugi must be defeated in a Duel to restore the public's trust in KaibaCorp. The executives also say that Mokuba must be captured, as he holds the key to the storage facility. Mokuba, eavesdropping, tries to run, but he is caught by Kemo and is dragged into the boardroom, where Pegasus "invites" him as a guest to the Kingdom. (In the dub, the scene is different: since there is no storage key, the condition is instead the rule that KaibaCorp's CEO title can only be held by a Kaiba brother, so the two Kaiba brothers must be removed from the picture. Pegasus says that he will arrange an "accident" for Seto.)

Yugi tells Mokuba that despite the situation, that's no excuse for stealing from others. Mokuba tells him to be quiet and Summons his "Krokodilus" and orders it to attack "Winged Dragon", which counter-attacks with another fireball and destroys "Krokodilus". Mokuba's Life Points fall to 1100. Yugi reiterates that Mokuba will never be able to win with stolen cards. Téa realizes Mokuba's motivation - if Yugi loses his Star Chips in a way other than being defeated in a Duel, that means Yugi never technically lost a Duel, and so Pegasus' agreement with the executives is void.

Suddenly, the gang realizes that Mokuba isn't in his pedestal anymore. Mokuba rushes up to Yugi's side of the Arena and swipes at his Star Chips, grabbing two and running off. Yugi calls to Mokuba, saying that he'll never be able to save KaibaCorp that way. He tells Mokuba that Seto hasn't deserted him - he's simply learning about the heart of the cards, and will return when he does. He asks if Mokuba is willing to abandon his trust in Seto and KaibaCorp. Yugi promises to Mokuba that he will defeat Pegasus, and tells him that he should return the boy's Deck and Star Chips. Téa says that the boat is leaving in just three minutes, and the gang has to hurry.

The gang arrive back at the pier, but they're too late - the boat with the boy has already left. Kemo says that he doesn't care when the losers' boat leaves. Mokuba tries to give Kemo back the stolen Star Chips and tells him to recall the boat, but Kemo slaps them into the water, which include the two Star Chips stolen from Yugi. Suddenly, Kemo grabs Mokuba in a chokehold, to the gang's shock. Kemo says that they'll be going back to the castle, so as not to worry Pegasus. Yugi holds up his Dueling Gauntlet, saying that he still has three Star Chips left, and challenges Kemo to a Duel. Kemo says that he doesn't Duel, but if the gang meets him back at the Duel Arena where Yugi Dueled Mokuba in an hour (four hours in the dub), he'll have his Duel.

Meanwhile, Seto is sitting in his office overlooking a cliff. He is ruminating about his Duel with Yugi. He says that even though he was more powerful than Yugi, Yugi won because he was fighting for more than Seto was. He tinkers with his prototype Duel Disk, thinking that it will allow him to fight Yugi on equal footing. Suddenly, two goons burst into the office, brandishing guns (censored in the dub). They tell Seto that he's coming with them. Seto feigns obedience, but then kicks a chair at the goons, which knock them both over. Seto then blocks a gunshot with his briefcase and jumps out the office window into the sea in which it overlooks, seemingly to his death. One of the goons looks at Seto's deck which he left behind, and draws the top card, which is revealed to be "Blue-Eyes White Dragon". (In the dub, he says that Pegasus sent them to collect the deck; also, the scene in the office comes before the scene in the pier.)

The gang arrives at the Duel Arena, where Mokuba is still being held by Kemo. Kemo says that he will give Mokuba back if he wins the Duel, and points to the red part of the Duel Arena - and in it is a man who looks exactly like Seto Kaiba. He tells Yugi that he will get his revenge.

    • The whole sequence of Yami Yugi coming out of the Millennium Puzzle is added to the dub and a glowing eye is added to Yugi's forehead.
    • The guns on Pegasus's henchmen are erased from the dub. Also scenes of them trying to shoot Kaiba are cut out.
    • A shot of waves crashing on the rocks is added to the US version.
    • In the 4Kids' dub version, Pegasus says that he's drinking fruit juice rather than wine

    TriviaEdit

    • Next to the picture of Cecelia, Pegasus has a picture of Shadi.
    • When speaking to the Duelist whose Star Chips had been stolen by Mokuba, the Duelist states he never got a chance to Duel, thus he would have had 2 Star Chips still, however Mokuba somehow has 5 Star Chips when wagering them against Yugi, this suggests that Mokuba had also stolen Star Chips from other Duelists too.
